I bought a mummy version of this pad recently and was impressed with the heat reflection - you really can feel it on your back or hand upon touch. However, on it's first outing on Mam Tor last week, one of the side baffle bonds popped loose down the entire length of the pad, after only one hours' use. I weigh 79kg! With a sense of great disappointment had to cut my wild camping trip sort. Flextail have offered me a refund, but I'm not sure whether I should buy another and hope it also doesn't fail. I paid £51 including tax from Flextail's shop on Ali, along with the zero pump they recommend inflating it with, which i paid £17 for (it's fantastic). Definitely worth it, providing it doesn't go 'pop' in the night and leave you in utter shock. I may try the wider pad instead and just take a chance that it's actually been through a QC test.
That looks like a pretty damn fine mat! Flextail does seem to pride themselves in their engineering, which is always great to see! I own a couple of flextail items... This might be one of the next... All the best, James 💚🙏
other than its a bit slippery, I can't really fault it.
Looks a good mat. I bought a cheap one and you can feel the cold straight away
yeah, that's no fun.
Yes yes that is a good mat for sure. Your off-camera comments to me during the camp were positive overall too. See how it lasts of course, but excellent intro video there mate. Cheers, Warren :)
Thanks mate : )
Gonna watch with interest mate,
Hmm I do like mats like klymit that have the silicone markings that helps stop the slide and my thermarest that has a decent sized bag but maybe I will try one of these ! Atb mate
yes, I think its biggest fault is the slipperiness. other than that, I can't fault it.
Great review, just ordered one. Cheers
👍👍
Great R value for the price, I may consider this. Currently using foam mattress but winter is coming.
only issue with air mats is they're fragility. you have to look after them, especially in winter when you're far from the car.
Great job on the video Dan, look forward to your input after use in the field
Thanks 👍
Amazing video on the Flextail R5 zero matress looks amazing my mate got one he said its comfortable I'm buying one cheers Dan
cheers Andrew : )
If it holds up, $140 for a good winter pad is a deal.
yep, you're right there.
Turn your pump around to suckout the air vacuum pack. Just curious i know nothing about most of this stuff. Let me know. Love your work mate. See you soon. ✌😎.
yes, you can extract more air that way.. but its the insulation I think that makes it hard to pack.. but that's what keeps you warm too.. I guess it's a trade off.
Any chance of a long term review
5+R from something so small and light !? Nice demonstration thanks Dan
Thanks Stuart : )
That looks a cracking mat and very good value , top notch review as always 👌
Thanks 👍
The shuffle, is its a case of adding silicone beads?
Sounds like a lilo, looks like a lilo. :) .
Great review Dan👍
Thanks : )
Purely based on transparentness... Do I see correctly that both the outside baffles aren't insulated? Only the middle 6?
yes, that's correct.
Whoops field test completed
it'll come out again. I like it : )
Now you won't want to get up in the mornings Dan. Bushyboy Oz.
I never do mate ; )
Fabulous video and I would like to know the brand of your pillow as I am considering buying it and many people use it.
It's the FLEXTAIL zero pillow 👍

G'day Dan, I was just gonna put in an algorithm comment this time around, ......... but you know I cant simply do that ; )
Yep, what would a slightly bigger bag cost to produce ........... peanuts, .... perhaps walnuts, I'd say, ............. you can take or leave the pun : )
I like the R value and outside support, though as a 6 footer, its too short. Back in the day, I couldn't of cared less, ....... but now I do ; )
As a fellow side sleeper, I wonder why pillows aren't an integral feature these days, ..... at least on some models, surely it would work out much the same in size/weight as carrying a separate item, but with the benefit of a single inflation, (just let their excellent pump do it all), as well as being captive, (no chance of sliding around). Cheers Duke.
I have given the company my feedback.. they are looking at a bigger bag. which is good.
I have a mat with a built in pillow.. and I don't like it, it just isn't that comfy.. I think as I like to move the pillow around slightly to get comfortable. the built in version just doesn't do it for me.
yeah, the size is slightly short for a lot of people I think.. which is odd.
my exped mat is the long and wide version, and its over 6 foot long.. but its a £250. mat... for £100. there will always be compromises I reckon.
hope you're well mate. sorry I have got being on comments.. another dose of man flu this week and I've struggled with motivation.
Hi did the pump come with the Matt?
No. But it's from the same company.
How is the pad doing?
Good review dude,
Thanks mate!
