Today I will be sharing with you my experience and long term review after using the Samsung Galaxy S22 for the past 3 months, both the good and the bad. To ultimately help you decide whether the Galaxy S22 is the right phone for you. I opted to go for the Galaxy S22 in 128GB and chose Phantom Black. This comes in at $799 or £769. I love the design of the S22. The matte textured glass back not only looks good but also feels comfortable in the hand. The shiny aluminium sides of the S22, slightly curve, and this makes it easy to grip. My only concern with durability lies in the glass on the display. Through normal use, my display has gotten a few large scratches that are visible and don’t look great. As someone who typically uses iPhones, having USB-C is great. Samsung are know of their incredible displays and the S22 is no exception. After using the S22, I can safely say this is the best smartphone display I’ve used. The symmetrical, super thin bezels make the phone feel modern and cutting edge. The ultrasonic under screen fingerprint reader is fast and secure. Not to mention the small pin hole selfie camera is barely noticeable when watching videos and using the phone generally. Colours are vibrant and the display is really sharp so even smaller text is easy to read. The display also get’s really bright, with up to 1300 nits of brightness. It has a 120 hz refresh rate, this makes motion on screen appear extra smooth. I consider battery to be one of the key pillars of any smartphone and it is unfortunate but in this area the Galaxy S22 falls short of my expectations. In day to day use, I found myself getting around 5-6 hours of screen-on time. For reference I get around 7-8 in the iPhone 13. For example, during a typical day of mixed use I end the day at around 6pm with 20% remaining on the S22, meaning I can just about get through a full day but not evening. Whereas on the iPhone 13 I can get through a full day plus evening with battery to spare. Thankfully thought when it comes to performance the S22 delivers! With it’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, games, photo or video editing apps run super smooth. To add to this, Samsung’s one UI is probably the most stable experience you will find on android and has generally performed well! Something really important to me is that the S22 is said to get 4 years of software updates, as someone who typically uses an iPhone, I love to see this. On the back we have a triple lens camera setup, the best of which is the 50 megapixel wide angle lens and is the one I use most. Photos are detailed. White balance is accurate in all lighting conditions. Colours, are slightly more on the saturated side but still look fantastic.Video, though not at the level of that of the iPhone, 4K 60fps video looks good. The selfie camera on the front creates sharp photos and gets decently wide for group selfies and video calls. Ok so, after 3 months of using the Galaxy S22, have my thoughts changes and is it still worth buying? At the end of my original review, I said the S22 is a phone that is almost perfect. With it’s premium design, best in class display, impressive array of cameras, fast performance with years of software support. The only part that falls short is battery. And now after months of using, not only is just as true, it is also a bit frustrating as this phone really almost has it all. Still, the Galaxy S22, at it’s price, remains to be in my opinion the best all-round phone you can buy on the Android side for the price.

I have an s22 and the battery definitely leaves you wanting more. On a normal day it's at 10% when going to bed. I need to charge it on heavy use days and before going out to the bars. Otherwise it is the perfect size for smaller hands and great build quality. The camera quality impressed iphone users lol. I just got my S22 to replace my daily driver Essential PH1 and I did a double take when I opened to box because on the front they are pretty much identical. Save for the top of the phone where Essetial has a slot for sensors and notification light and the camera has notch in the screen rather than a stright up hole like S22.
I didn't use screen protector on my Essential and save for a tiny microscratch that's only visible in strong light, the screen has remained scratch free. I keep mine inside a leather sleeve and I was happy to see that S22 goes snugly into the same sleeve so I don't have to get a new one. This sleeve is the reason why my Essential didn't get any scratches in all these years. So I'll ignore your recommendation to get a screen protector, which get scratched so much easier, gather dirt on the edges and would have to be occasionally swapped.

My Samsung S22 is a great phone, but has a few issues. The battery life is an issue, but stretches to more than a day on power save mode. The camera has a surprisingly good 3X zoom, which partly makes up for the lack of macro and the occasional out of focus shot on moving objects and a bit of flaring on lights. The connectivity also has issues - I struggle to use usb-C to HDMI on my old TV, which works perfectly on my iPad pro. The usb C connection may be to blame since it doesn’t charge some of the time when plugged in - even after I upgraded to the extra fast charger. Just in case I’ll hang on to my S7 which still performs flawlessly after 6 years….

is the S22 compatible with the ExpertRaw app from samsung galaxy store ? Have you taken photos in RAW format ? How is the experience of editing the Raw images in Adobe Lightroom / Photoshop ? In my opinion as a hobby photographer, the RAW image capture functionality is the most important thing for a flagship smartphone with a good camera. Why else would anyone want to buy such an expensive phone ? please leave a comment if you have insights! i'm looking for a new phone. Also how is DeX ??? another killer feature!!!

    • @DionMedia
      @DionMedia  ปีที่แล้ว +2

Hi Ciunga, it is possible to shoot in RAW on the S22 with the expert RAW app. I would definitely recommend using that when editing in Apps like Lightroom. But, no matter how good, they can not compare with a proper independent camera, so I would manage expectations. Having said this, the S22 has one of the best cameras on smartphones available right now. Is far as DeX is concerned I think that this is for most a gimmick, not a very useful feature.

A big factor in that is the size of the phone is just uncomfortable to use, or have in my pocket. I've got decent size hands, but holding onto it with one hand for use is a balancing act and you really have to stretch your thumb around.
I've also read a few reviews saying the screen breaks easily when dropped, and it gets easily water damaged. My S8 finally died because I got caught in a rainstorm (I've dropped it a bunch and it had cracks the water got through), so both those things with the Moto really worry me.

With light use I say it's good battery life! My only complain, that I'm hoping will change in the future, is the 1080p display. Coming from a 1440p display, it was a huge downgrade and it did bother me before i got used to 1080p. For the record I am neither an 'Apple sheep' nor an 'Android fan boy'. I think both have their plus and minus points. But when it comes to compact phones with most of the desired features iPhones take the cake. The 13 mini is a tad too tiny for me, so I guess it'll be the iPhone 13 256GB. I had the s22 and I can’t stress enough how bad the battery life is , realistically it’s 4 hour battery life and that’s with the always on display turned off. Went back to IPhone and I will say don’t know if I’ll ever go back to android.

Hi Marcel, In day to day use, I found myself getting around 5-6 hours of screen-on time. For reference I get around 7-8 in the iPhone 13.

Samsung does make great phones but they gotta step up on their battery performance, otherwise people are still gonna buy iPhones running on 60hz.

using my S10 still to this day, dont see a good reason to upgrade yet to the s22. gaming still seems meh performance wise with the snapdragon chips, and i dont like that all the buttons are on the right now.

Give this disgrace of a phone back or send it along with a explosive to Samsung HQ, that will teach them a lesson!
Forget the explosives, just use some Note 7's instead.

Wanted a smaller phone and almost bought the s22 on sale but ended up skipping it due to the batterylife.. Currently rocking a Huawei mate 20 pro, of which my only complaint is exactly the poor batterylife in the later stages of its life... which I find hard to replace on tight budget..

Nice video pal! Just one question, right now i have a Xiaomi Mi 9 SE (came with a 3070 battery) but now i have a new 3500 battery with a custom rom and i love it for my usage! but i think i need a lil more power because sometimes lag with some things, nothing big but i dk lol , do you think the S22 will perform better, last longer ? i mean should be because the process its newer (4 nm vs 10nm) but yeah read the proc its power hungry/hotter and have a more powerful and a lil bigger screen so... had in mind zenfone 8/9 but those arent sold here so should import it and i dk if wort it.... i mean i love my phone but now i just need a lil more power and of course a small phone, so those are my options but at the same time im not looking a "premiun" process who get hot with anything lol

Wish I saw this before I bought it. I am constantly having to top off the charge. I use talk to text a lot and it doesn't have a good program for that either. I had my Samsung Galaxy S7 for over 7 years. And the only reason I bought this one is because I wanted better battery but it doesn't seem to be better.

I'm writing this from my S9. Sorry but I'm not swaping, I would love to have a smaller phone and 5.5" to 6" seems the perfect size for a phone but battery is a big deal for me, I mean my S9 lasts 1,5 days even after 4 years of use and this S22 can barely last 6-7hours?
I love the size of s22 but they should think of a new generation of batteries..
