Great video man! Nice to see you’ve made some expansions and your workshop area looks really cool! I’ve also installed a door closer on my garage too and I remember the old universal hardware closer that used to be there!
Thank you so much! After a lot many videos I finally understood what a hold open does ! Coming from India where we do not see this concept often, I had a hard time trying to figure out that. Can you also explain what a Cush n stop (LCN) type closer is ?
You’re welcome! I’m glad this video was informative to you. Cush-N-Stop is a term from LCN where a door closer has a built in door stop on the closer’s arm. Other manufacturers also offer this feature but call it a different term(s). You can order different styles of Cush-N-Stop arms depending on how far you’d like the door to be opened.
6:41 Nice video. ☺️👍 I just bought and installed this kind of door closer, but it's very difficult (hard/heavy) to open it. 😰 How to make it easier to push the door? I hope you'll see my message. 😅 Thanks. ☺️
Would this hold open function work only when the door is opened over 90 degrees? Can it be adjusted to hold the door opened at smaller angles, like keep it only lightly open at 45 degrees? I can't find this info anywhere. Thanks for the good video.
Surprized you distroyed a closer, what did you do to distroy it?? If you were having problems with it I could repair it, Liked the video, was nice to see your closers again, all mine are doing good -Jess the Door Closer Doctor
Thank you! Glad you liked the video. Yeah, about that Universal Hardware closer... It was the first closer I ever owned. It was installed on 2 different doors. At some point I decided to “see how fast I could make the door close.” So I completely backed out the valve, then as soon as I released the door the valve sprung right out and all of the oil shot out everywhere. At the time I didn’t know how to refill it so me and a friend tried to bend the arm, bust open the body, etc. We were able to bend the arm but couldn’t break the body. I ended up throwing the closer away.
@@ExitSign250 ohh, that little one you got for 9 dollars at home depot, about 2 or 3 months ago I got one of those (Taymor brand, made in Japan, closer is really a Ryobi 800, no valves). Had I known you needed it refilled, you could have asked for help or sent it to me to refill, I dont bite! Please don't break another! -Jess the Door Closer Doctor
Haha. Yeah this had been years ago! This was a couple of months after I originally got interested in door closers. (2014-2015?) I invested a few extra dollars and got the heavy duty residential model.
@@ExitSign250 How would you use it as an exit door when it is swinging inside? people always escape to outside. Exit Hardware shall always be reversed handing (push bar from inside and trim handle from outside), as I see your door swings inside and it is handed as a Left-Hand door (Back Yard to Basement)
This is a house so exit doors and hardware isn’t required. If it were on a commercial building, the door would be required to swing to the outside and have panic hardware as well.
Nope! That downlight is original to the sign. As @Thunderbolt 1003 said, this particular one is a LightAlarms “Quickie” model UXQLR. This sign was also branded as Emergi-Lite and Dynaray. (Dynaray was the original manufacturer)
I’ve been searching the open door hinge but there nothing like it here so I installed the normal door closer and use rope to keep it open sometimes lmao
Way too much talking. I hate when these "how to" videos spend half the time giving out useless information. "I'm in my basement" "last door was destroyed" "I have new hardware"
You haven't mounted the door closer properly on your bedroom door I use to collect door closers I had 800 of them all different brands they damage the doors totally I would rather spend 300 on a loxinox gate door closer they are amazing mount your door closer like you have in the garage the body of the closer on your bedroom door is way 2 close to the hinge hence why it's weak closing your door
I am aware of my bedroom closer not being installed in the best way. I did that on purpose as I did not want to block the exit sign I have above the same door. I have also worked with Locinox gate closers before and they are some of the best out there.
I’ve always wanted to have a 4040XP closer. Unfortunately the prices of them can be high but you definitely get what you pay for. Hands down the best door closer ever made.
Great video man! Nice to see you’ve made some expansions and your workshop area looks really cool! I’ve also installed a door closer on my garage too and I remember the old universal hardware closer that used to be there!
Thank you! I hope to also install some more closers sometime in the future.
Yep I’ll be sure to stay tuned I did see a door closer on parallel arm on the workbench there :)
Love this video keep up the good work
Also get a closer with Delayed Action. If door is pushed past 80 degrees it will close very slow untill it gets to 80 degrees.
Those are neat closers to have. I do not currently have a need for a delayed action closer though.

What kind of door closer is that on the workbench
Nice! I like the closers!
Thanks for explaining Hold Open.

With this particular model of door closer, the hold open may be adjusted to any opening degree on the hold open shoe with a tool.
@@ExitSign250 That's exactly what I need. I can order it with my mind in peace now. Thanks again.
Sure thing. Happy to help!
Cool video!! ...
I've got the newer style, even after adjusting the rod back and forth, still can't get it to hold open??
Did you figure it out? Having trouble
@ktalvarez9496 no, I haven't. I think it might be twisted up therefore not working properly
Good video! Imagine installing a door closer on a window
Thanks for the video. Which brand is the door closer?
Which closer? Also I believe I said the closer names when I talked about each one.
@@ExitSign250 I got it. My bad I think I missed that.
As stated in the video, that closer is a Norton 1600H. That closer does not have a delayed action feature so I can’t demonstrate that.

How did you end up getting to know your local fire inspection company so well?
I don't know but 10hour,s so yes
I think you can put a exit sign in the basement.
I’ve thought about that. Maybe I’ll add an emergency light too!

nice video. did you modify that exit sign in your room with the lights shining downward or did it come like that? what model is it?
