Love this book! th-cam.com/users/postUgkxpCNxqmAkyjN6NPx1fyB7QiEFWyO5mUWL it is simply one-of-a-kind! I really love it, because karah explained all tools required to have the job done, not mentioning the fabulous diy pallets ideas. I'm pretty sure this will be a fresh start in my new endeavour. Amazon was great, they delivered on time. Thank you!

You just solved a huge problem we have with our cat - had never even considered this. Seems a lot easier than teaching the cat to close the door, which we've failed at repeatedly.

My sisters cat was taught to open and close doors herself (She would jump up and pull the handle down to open and then push it shut behind her) I could do with a door closer on my kitchen door, not for my cat but for my grandkids who were all, apparently, born in a field. Love your content Keith, thanks.

My one does the cupboard in the toilet, but only when I am there, just so he can look inside, and see if anything has changed, so he can show me he is being active and making sure.

This was really helpful. I found a claw hammer rather than a crow bar worked to pry the plates apart when at 90 degrees, without damaging the door, so long as you roll the top of the hammer along the length of the door. I also used pliers to put the tool in place and rotate it... not sure I trusted getting my fingers trapped in it.

Just used this video to get one of these re-fitted to a door that I removed it from years ago. Thank you so much! Your video helped me understand the mechanism and the tensioning. I didn't have the included tool so I used a claw hammer to pry, and an allen key to slot through the chain and hold it in place. Worked like a charm!

Great idea, we have several self closing doors, either for privacy or keeping heat in. Those closer types are horrible though. Crude, very cheaply made and a ball ache to fine tune the adjustment. They tend to be sprung too firmly even on softest setting (they’re designed to pull fire doors after all). Forget even trying to adjust without causing damage once the keep has been lost. They can also be noisy if installation alignment is off. Sprung hinges are way easier, especially if sized to match your existing hinges (no chopping out, no drilling, straight swap often the same screw positions!). Their adjustment can still be a little fiddly but you don’t lose skin in the process and the closing force is more adjustable for all door weights.

We had one on our last house for the Garage door. It was Viscous. If you didn't catch the door as it was closing it would remind you with one hell of a bang. Interesting to see one being installed and adjusted. Wish Your Video had come out 29 years ago. As That is when My Parents bought the house and I bought it off my Dad after my Mum passed away 12 years ago. One of my daughters got clobbered bit after following my into my Studio conversion. As the garage was too narrow to put any of our cars in and get out. Wimpy design quality.

Originally fitted mine several years ago but recently the concealed bolt had somehow unscrewed/freed itself. Of course the original instructions and special tool were nowhere to be found so I used your video to remind me of how it all worked, cleaned, lubed and refitted with a claw hammer as tensioner and vice grips to hold the spring taught while screwing in the last plate. Thanks.

Absolutely no reflection on you Keith, but what a Faff, there must be a better way/device !
I fitted some "rising butt hinges" in our previous property, primarily for accommodating a slight change in floor levels but it did also slowly close the door, it worked for us but not adjustable apart from with lubrication, also when fitting these you have to allow for the rise at the top of the frame - ask mw how I learned this ! 🤔😬🙄
We had the opposite problem when my son when he was a toddler as he would slam EVERY open door, often with your keys on the other side ! 😂

Tie a bit of cord round the end and pull that instead of using a crow bar. Once you’ve got enough can pulled out to hold, wedge a small drill bit in the chain to hold it so you can fix the end to the lining.

You're better off drilling and fitting the tube first, then close the door and the sticky out bit on the frame faceplate will leave an indent in the actual frame so you'll know where to fit the plate.

Thanks for this video, it’s really helpful. I abandoned installing mine after starting the pilot hole and realising how close the 25mm bit will come to the edge of the door (I placed it in the middle of the door). Do you see any reason the shaft part couldn’t be put in the frame with the plate in the door? It’s a stud wall with no cable so I could get through easily I just wonder if there is a reason not to do it that was?

We had the same problem with our dog. We put some thick rope around each door handle and trained him to open doors. This did not work when the door fully latched, so blue tac in the latch plate hole to prevent the door fully latching did the job.

They are a great way to catch kids fingers in the jamb. One of the reasons they stopped fitting them on new builds on internal doors. The other being that most people either wedged the doors open or removed the closers completely.

Outstanding Kieth, however my OCD kicked in, and I couldn't help but see the saw dust from the drilling (and chiseling) fall onto the carpet. And I kept wondering how it would be a pain to clean them up especially on carpet...I am sure you used a vacuum..however, makes me prefer a tiled surface...but I digress... again OUTSTANDING!
