    My Nile monitor will let you peel it off her but she goes after it thinking it's food if you toss it and gets all pumped up lol

    i've heard this is very bad to do, i mean, pulling off their shed

      It's only dangerous if the skin isn't ready. But if it's stuck shed you can assist them. They'd naturally rub themselves on rocks and such to remove it, which can scratch them up a bit. Your hand would probably do less damage.
      A bunch of people have a hard time with getting their humidity right for large monitors. Larger enclosures are frequently harder to maintain.
      But always soak them first, which is why this one is in a tub.

    Maybe it could be bad skin there could be a explanation for peeling the skin as the person peeling the skin of from the lizard. The lizard isn't hostile maybe the lizard knows whats going on that why its calm

    I probably wouldn't pull of the skin. It could cause an infection. Just a suggestion!🤗 if anything , give him a shallow and warm bath and let him soak ! 👍🏻👍🏻

    • @Teddy_B3ar
      @Teddy_B3ar 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Trippie Lexx isn’t that what he’s doing? I’m very confused cus everyone says don’t peel the shed but if it’s loose, ready to come off, not hurting the lizard, and is also annoying the lizard isn’t it sensible to just pull it off? I don’t think it’ll cause an infection cus the new skin is ready to come through. And the lizard doesn’t seem at all agitated

    • @cranexdragon1046
      @cranexdragon1046 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Teddy_B3ar no the person put the reptile in a huge tub, that is not the same as a shallow soak. The reptile should be able to lay down and easily hold its head without it going in the water. Second of all the skin should be so loose you can just ever so gently and effortlessly rake your finger tips across it and it peels in your hand. If you are tugging it off like its saran wrap (like in the video) the conditions are not right and should not be done. It not only posses a risk of infection to the reptile but it also can cause damage to the new baby skin underneath which can cause more issues.

    Their skin is thick enough for a snake bite not to penetrate im sure peeling its skin isn't a big deal

    • @cranexdragon1046
      @cranexdragon1046 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      😂 what kind of logic is that. We arent cavemen we have science to back up the theories. It had been shown to not only damage the new skin underneath which can cause more health issues it can cause infection.

      It's usually okay to HELP your lizards peel IF the skin is very loose. You shouldn't have to go picking and scraping at it to peel it off. Wetting your lizard does help soften the skin, but it is possible to peel without. If you feel ANY resistance against a piece of skin, grab some scissors and cut it off. (Obviously not too close to the body). If you follow these guidelines, you and your lizard can peel together peacefully.
