That you! I have a lot of respect for those things, and they’re just so fun to catch I can’t justify keeping one. And, I’d probably trade a less organized boat for half of Eric’s skills! Dudes a hammer!
My Ugly Stick absorbs the shock over and over. $40 at Walmart. It seems that it doesn't matter what lure you use because all the Milwaukee video makers use different stuff and pull them in. My wife caught a 24 inch Steelhead on the toy plastic pole we bought for our son when he was 8 years old, with the plastic Zebco reel.
Definitely many different techniques you can use to catch them! And everyone had their preferred equipment as well. Glad you enjoy fishing for them as well! Tight lines - LB.
You can definitely target these fish from shore as well. Most of the marina docks are publicly accessible. I’d cast a variety of crankbaits, mepps spinners, and of course spawn sacs under a float as well. They do seem to congregate in “corners.” As we get into winter more fish will funnel closer to shore and in the marinas. I would also try the summerfest lagoon as well, lots of shore fishing opportunity there. I know Eric Haatja has multiple videos on shore fishing for these fish too. Good luck, and thanks for watching!
Thanks for the tip, definitely not an inexperienced angler, what’s not shown is all the different retrieves, colors, and lures I try on a daily basis to get fish to commit. Always a mystery as to how they want a bait presented day to day. That’s what makes it fun!
Great set up and great video...glad you keep your boat much more organized and clean than Erics! LOL
And btw...your releases are very respectful...love it..always respect the catch as you did!

They do not taste very good, even when smoked. But, the steelhead does. Thanks for watching!

He’s edited the video down to the actual takes. Probably tried a lot of other techniques that didn’t work on the day.
