*You should call Sparks Brothers and do a recovery with them. No engine or wheels, car was likely trailered out there and dumped. If it wasn't stolen that's a lot of work to get rid of recyclable steel.*

I want to see Jeff using something that doesn't yet exist...
As I understand it the main reason for 'no-drone-zones' is incase you lose the drone and it leaks nastiness or sets a fire, if a drone manufacturer was able to make a tethered drone... kinda like a really long selfie-stick.
He could stand back from a cliff edge and send the drone down for a look into a sinkhole safety, or up a cliff, even just a quick aerial shot of a smaller area.
I studied anthropology in college many years ago. I am very interested to know the origin of the petroglyphs you found, especially the untouched hand prints, pigmented designs. The white color is most likely calcium carbonate from fossilized sea creatures, as that whole area was once covered by ocean. The red color is most likely made with iron oxide (rust) from rocks bearing iron. The pristine condition these petroglyphs are in is due to the combination of their very remote location and being sheltered from the elements under a recessed overhang, which appears to provide permanent shade. You do great work! Thank you!

Get you a cheap chest Mount or head Mount so you can use both your hands next time you're on a trail like that... Keep up the good work! I used to live in Southwest Colorado and this is bringing back major memories of exploring out there!
I thought I packed my head mount but it was in my other backpack, which I threw away :-/ I'm getting a new one though!

Drones really are an amazing tool, allowing you to quickly and easily check out very hard to reach spots. Awesome find by the way, thanks for sharing!
Agreed! I just got home from a 3 day off road trip through areas populated by abandoned mines and it was nice to be able to send the drone up to some that would take a good hike without even having to leave my vehicle. Plus I don't risk falling in. 😂
That trail even looked steep on the video and that's impressive because the camera usually makes things look flatter

I saw Comb Ridge on a map a few years ago and was instantly curious about its formation. Thank you for venturing to it and sharing your personal trek adventure. 😊 There are geologists who theorize that some sort of catastrophic event, not water erosion, created that wild and crazy landscape. The pictographs made my heart sing. ❤
Seeing Comb Ridge in person really makes you wonder how it got to be like that! One of my favorite places!
Comb Ridge is a Laramide feature, uplifted gradually about 70-40 million years ago, likely caused by a flat-subducting tectonic plate out to the west (the Farallon plate). It is a monocline in a series of monoclines across the US Desert Southwest (a monocline is like a rug draped over a single step, making a bend into the earth). geology.utah.gov/map-pub/survey-notes/geosights/comb-ridge/#:~:text=Geologic%20Information%3A&text=Compressional%20forces%20during%20the%20Laramide,flank%20of%20the%20Monument%20Upwarp.
Google 'Geosights: Comb Ridge, San Juan County, Utah' for a brief geological explanation of how it came to exist, by the Utah Geological Survey. Although catastrophes do occur, they are usually not the most likely explanation.
Those last un-vandalized petroglyphs made the long, hazardous journey worthwhile!
I was so worried about your bike (well, you actually), what if you (your bike actually) busted a rim? It's a long walk out if your battery had died... long pushing it, longer carrying it.

Sounds like a good guess to me. Quick lesson in automobile anthropology for the video author: Cars have all kinds of markings on them that will identify them, including the one on the trunk that you missed. Cool video otherwise.

*@**5:08** on the driver C pillar (right behind rear of driver side passenger door and before rear windshield) there's a spot of burgundy paint that is likely to be original. Oldsmobile made a Delta88 that color.*
I'm thinking Dodge Polara sedan, don't recall GM or FoMoCo having taillights in the bumper.

You should keep a book of geo locations of these ancient pictographs/petroglyphs. Finding something that rare and untouched are so important to keep track of but keep the book private of course. That way you’ll always have record and someday share with your kids, etc. thanks man! I love exploring central oregon. We are truly blessed to be the types of people who appreciate these things. I would NEVER carve my name into ancient native history. Those types of people blow my mind…

@10:45 I imagined a story of a birth here under a shooting star. The 4th and 5th hands seem to be bound with anchor like symbol and below the figure appears to be birthing a red winged figure followed by another pair of hands :lightning unsure if that is a duck moon or a fish above the star then that red figure again below the mountain range . Thank you for sharing your adventures.
Pro tip: air down your tires on the rocky areas to aid them going over the rocks.

Man seeing this type of surroundings is insane. I live in New Zealand and there is nothing, nothing like what you come across in our country. It’s a beautiful country but boring when it comes to the land and the history behind it. So many place around the world have seen so much life of the millions of years past on this huge rock we cal earth. Thank you for exploring these wonderful places and being so passionate about it brother. Keep doing what yah doing truly special what you can come across 😊🙏💯
I live in Australia. Unfortunately, we can no longer explore our own country in many of the more remote parts. 50% of the Northern Territory is now unaccessible unless you're an aborigine since being handed back to them. Very annoying!

No where near as vast as other civilisations so it’s kinda boring haha it’s a very young beautiful country and it’s supply in dairy and forestry products, and also tourism is pretty much it here. I’m very grateful to grow up here but would love to explore places like this gentleman does on his awesome channel. One day! Happy new years everyone have a goodie ❤️

I think I saw some you did not mention. One is a vertical bar with about five or six circles. One looked to me like a fulcrum for collecting water. Love hiking, The most difficult Hike we did in Missouri required a sign in and out times. I stepped on a huge round rock with moss. I fell and hurt my elbow, My daughter’s wedding was just days away, I could see myself in a sling, oh no. Thank goodness that was not necessary. Good scouts. Use the buddy system. Take care. 😊😊😊

Dude, I love your channel, especially that you show the terrain and not your face the whole time. Not that you don't have just an adoring face, but as others have missed, it's about the journey as well as the destination. As someone who lives in the frozen north of Michigan, I find your area just fascinating.
Although I have trekked The serpent mounds in Ohio and petroglyphs and pictograms in my area all the way to western Minnesota. I plan to visit the mounds in Cahokia Illinois. Also the mound complex in Louisiana just west of Vicksburg Mississippi. I highly recommend looking these up on Google Earth. Thanks bud, keep trekking.
Folks don't realize that the mounds go all the way up into Minnesota and Wisconsin. A lot of them sit low to the surrounding ground so they get missed. Cahokia is awesome (even if you have to go through East St Louis to get there lol). The desert preserves stuff better, but there are ancient remains all over the US - and use of that sweet copper that came from up by where you live!

I saw another TH-cam video of an individual who took his Tundra up Poseys trail. I'm sure it's driven several times every year, but what an absolute pucker factor that trail has. As I understand it used to be the main route before the highway was cut through the ridge to the south. I suspect some those petroglyphs are older than 700 years. The two smooth elements that look like human lungs have Basketmaker vibes.
I have to agree- it is your personality- and the excitement and wonder in your voice when you find something cool that make this channel so great. It is really refreshing to see someone not posturing and being negative or mean spirited. You are doing things the right way, keep it up and can't wait for your next adventure.

Probably was well used 50+ years ago.
That star-shaped pictograph reminds me of a starfish. Apparently, the Ancesteral Puebloan people had access to the West Coast, as seashells and other coastal artifacts have been found in pithouses around the Southwestern area. I'd be curious if there is any connection here!
Also the whale next to it.
I think the seashells were more from decorations than as discarded food waste. But yeah they clearly knew what a starfish was. I wonder if they just followed the rivers all the way down to the ocean.
Shells were probably obtained through trade with other tribes rather than actual travel to the ocean beaches. More than likely, the pictograph represents an actual star, or possibly a comet (combined with the bird next to it ... "a star flying through the sky").
@@mhicaoidh1 Yes, yet don't forget that there was an inland Sea here Millions of years ago, that left Shells all throughout the Rockies!
@@fennynough6962 yes, that's very true. I'd considered that, but the ancestral pueblo don't seem to be heavy excavators ... as compared to the number or ornamental shells that have been discovered. Plus, I would expect inland sea left overs to be fossilized which the ornamental findings are not.

Thank you, Jeff! At the top of Posey, you showed a petroglyph of a pair of feet. I could not see much of the trail up from you E-Bike, but I guarantee there were casts of footprints- all the way up. Stone footprints litter the Four Corners area. Evidently, no one ever noticed or cared... BW
The feet also have vibes of human lungs, in a way. Are the toes depicted on the feet or just the outline of the foot?

The car is giving me 70s vibes, like a buick, at least that is the first thought when I saw it. As for your video quality, its really hard to capture the things you do, with a camera and being able to relay it on film. You capture it, and take us places many of us can never go. But watching your video's, It feels like I am there. The quality, your narration, and the points of interest, are very well done. I noticed lately a few newer youtubers, trying to do this, like you do it, but they come up short. You were meant to do this.

@@dnavid I remember the 70s, LOL. I think it was likely stolen by some kids who wanted to go out to go joy riding, and likely thought it would be fun to see it go over the cliff. It's been there a while, but I don't think since the 70s. It's possible it was stolen and stripped before it went over too. The metal is pretty degraded, and it's the last to go.

Bring a jackery290 with you next time. It can fully recharge your ebike while your exploring. I do it with my himiway all the time, it lets me get double the distance.
Do you report art or structures that look like they may be previously undiscovered to local historical societies or universities? It would be amazing if your adventures could help locate, study, and protect new sites!
Never tell the government! They will take possession and declare it theirs.
It happens here when people find artifacts on their land.
It's not owned by the ancients anymore. They squatted/overtook/killed for the land they ended up on, too.

Hi Jeff. I’m thinking the pictograph with the anthropomorph with the red pigment might be a birthing scene. Some examples of that here in Moab. Including the famous “Birthing Rock” on Kane creek road.
Excellent job as always. Even though I live closer to many of these sites than you do I still can’t get out as much as you do due to work etc. so your channel is really inspiring.
Please continue to maintain the anonymity of your sites, as you’ve so expertly done. Even a big drone landscape sweep can often give lots of people clues about where you are. With such a big audience you might have to be even more careful.

I looked up comets in the last 700 years or so and I believe that is what that star pictograph represents. Here is a snippet I copied and pasted from one contender from around 500 years ago: Greatest Comet of the 16th Century: The Great Comet of 1577
This comet passed to within 16.7 million miles (26.9 million kilometers) of the sun on Oct. 27, but was not sighted until five days later, when it was described in an account from Peru as an exceptionally brilliant object. Contemporary descriptions note that it was seen through the clouds like the moon.
That untouched pictograph panel at the end was amazing!
