  • Footage of people shopping at the grocery store chain in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Mostly shots of the chip and snack aisle, but some nice overhead stuff as well.
This mediocre video from April last around 9 minutes or so.

Never would have thought as a kid that going grocery shopping with mom or dad in the 90's was something I'd miss as an adult lol. I loved sitting in the basket part of the cart and being pushed around the store while my parents shopped. Sometimes I'd lay down on my belly on the underneath part of the cart and pretend I was flying. One particular store around me had miniature carts for kids to push around which was fun.

Mine too. We pretty much always got the "generic" or store brands when I was growing up because we were poor, not to mention my dad was a self proclaimed cheap skate lol. He would say he was bringing home "Blizzards" for us and we'd get all excited thinking he meant Dairy Queen, then he'd come home with a carton of cheap vanilla ice cream from the store and a bag of m&ms lol. He just handed us a bowl of ice cream with m&ms thrown on top and told us to stir it up.

I've only been to a cub foods store once in the Chicago area. From the looks of this one it used to be one of those warehouse type stores?

True. Store chain options are much less around Chicagoland these. Jewel-Osco is the only, major retailer from the old days, that is still around (and not what it used to be). The competition is weak and flawed. Cub made a stupid mistake and pulled out in 2008. We shopped at Cub Foods for all big orders, from the early 90s (when a store opened by us), until 2008. Jewel was used at our convenience. I miss every aspect of shopping there years ago.

These videos are cool but a bit peculiar being that It wasn't very common at all for people to do these types of video diaries back in the 90's and early 00's as it is today, but that's what makes them awesome. It's almost like someone time traveled back to this actual time period for the sole purpose of documentation lol I wonder if these videos were originally created just for documenting or for some other project at the time? Does anyone know? Most the videos even seem to have the same filming style from the late 70's all the way up until the mid 00's, and there's a lot of videos present on the channel but not a whole lot of backstory to why they were made. It's interesting to see things like this being done before it was big.

the way the camera work is and how specific the things featured are, i think it was video to be used in a news story, or whats leftover from it anyways since networks only use a small portion of the video

It was shot by a videographer for the purpose of it being used as B roll for a news story, all of these videos are, it’s obvious
