I've always admired T-Boz's strength. My Sickle Cell has brought me down physically, mentally and emotionally many, many times. Hearing her talk about her hospitalizations hits so close to home.
I have sickle cell anemia. Type ss. I have a lil cuzzin w da type tboz has but she hasn't had a crisis yet. I learn something from this video: some people have crisis later in life. I thought they misdiagnosis her. She does have a weak amune system she catches colds and pneumonia like crazy. I relate w tboz. I've been watching a lot of TLC's interviews and we have a lot in common. People (some family member) think I make myself sick on purpose, I just know what make me sick and try to stay well but sometime I get sick anyway. All I want people to know is dat they should learn about things they don't know about instead off thinking people are trying to seek attention from others. Tboz make me say “yeah I can do big things in my life if she can do big things"
My son has sickel cell and his a strong Lil boy I love him so much he deals when in pain I feel it for him as he describes it to me but people without the disease will never know the pain they go through I respect my son so much hd just gets on with it living a normal life his 10 years old his only had one hospital admittance and he has sickel cell disease yes but sickel cell doesn't have him to all out there with the disease be strong and your in my thoughts bless.
I'm glad you posted this I think more attention needs to be drawn to it so a cure can be found possibly. My family on my mother and fathers side cary the trait leaving me with it and my older sister battling it day by day I only have the trait but I still get the pains on a daily basis and it does not feel good at ALL
I take medication, and I did not find out it made me lose hair, after 17 years I found out. I thought it was the relaxer, but I stopped relaxing and noticed an enormous amount of shedding daily. I went to medication education classes then learned meds cause hair loss in alot of ppl and it affects hair growth. Now my hair has always been short, due to relaxer damage but I continued to relax and noticed no hair growth. Now I am not relaxing again. Safe journey through yall sickle cell battles learn as much as you can about the disease.
I hate the "how does it feel" question. How about this: get a hammer and have someone bust it over your knees with the nail removal part, then pour acid in the open wound. That's about how it feels after getting oxygen and pain meds and being told "well that's all we can do". No one understands the pain. I think unless you've experienced it or any other pain disease like sciatica or fibromyalgia..I've heard those are bad too

Thanks sooo much for posting. More ppl need to learn about this disease. Since there is no cure the way to help end scd is to get tested and don't have a baby with a partner with the trait if you have the trait.
