Just chucking in my 2 cents....You may not have enough strength in the door step to inner sill when you grind it back, as you will need to get it smooth enough for the door seal to seat. The step would have been part of the complete door frame panel originally, the magnum includes the bottom part of the rear quarter but the rear quarter actually sits on top of the door frame panel. Keep up the good work!
Thanks, I dont think it will win any prizes but its about saving money and having the fun of doing it myself. Yes I am aware on how they fit but its a case of cost and not removing too much of the car. Maybe one day in the future my son can do it correctly lol
This is the problem. Its always how much money do you throw at these things. As there is alot to do I am trying to keep the costs down were I can. The thing in the back of my mind is getting it on the road and I can always do it right next time lol
Would it not have been more cost effective to have bought the outer/inner/ and floor pan in one section. Less welding and goes in ,in one big section. I wish I had known about those panels. Life would have been do much easier.
I would have had issues trying to weld the inner under the bin with the outer sill in the way. Also If you watch classic mini workshop they had issues with the way the outer sill was fitted. Did yours line up ok?
@@classicminilife Yes my sills both took a bit of fettling. I was able to get the majority of my welding done during lockdown but since my build has stalled a little. Last job was to fit a mini 53r sunroof, full panoramic roof. Next job painting.
Just rewatched all the episodes. Gonna enjoy following this.
Glad you are looking forward to it. We are looking forward to doing all the work too. Will try and upload videos as quick as I can.
Love the videos! I am attempting to do the same repairs as you, this is giving me great confidence on what to do and how everything fits together!
Many thanks. You just have to throw yourself in. Just be happy you have done it. I'm not saying my work is a good quality lol
Just come from Keith's. Good luck.
Many thanks for your support and I hope you enjoy watching.
One tip to help it fit at the back, cut a slit on the folds, then you can dress it back and just reweld when it’s right
Thanks for that. I might try that on the other side. Lets wait and see

Maybe need to turn your wire speed now a small bit. But good work so far.
Always tricky getting the right speed
Those magnum panels door step are not very good but they are cheap, I had to buy two before I got it right.
