I LOVED how G&S made a mockery of the young gents of the upper-middle class by getting them to ride several different kinds of recreational personal transport devices! They look like big little boys playing with their toys!

That's not in Gilbert's text, it's the interpretation of this particular production.
I somehow doubt they could have staged that at the Savoy, but the text is funny regardless of how it is played, that's why G&S works best straight and not bastardised like "Hot Mikado" or anything by the shameless Esgee.
