Think it's fair to say that BSA couldn't organise a p/up in a brewery. The price of a GoldStar is now as low as £4500 and the scrambler is just a modified version of that bike so expecting it to retail it at over 6 grand is a definite no no. History tells us that after 12 months they will knock it down by 2 grand, so wait till then, it's obvious.

@@MindfulMotorcyclistalways wait 12 to 18 months from the introduction of any brand new model, just to see what happens. Have they got it right? Ideally, buy new after a couple of years on sale, then any teething troubles should have been fixed and updates incorporated into the bike you purchase. Or if you're mad keen on riding the very latest model, just go for it and keep your fingers crossed.

Spot on comments and concerns. There is absolutely nothing that gives me any confidence in the scrambler being spot on
. Let’s face it it’s the same bike as the Goldstar and they can’t get that completely running trouble free still. It still has cut out issues even after updates. Problem is nobody wants to stand up and admit they are still having problems.

Correct, TFT & iPad screens put me right off… there is still a place for analog speedos with minimal warning light, such as the Kawasaki 650rs that gets this right. 2 clocks and a few alerts inbetween…

If that goldstar was to look a bit xt500 like with a proper full front mudgaurd - well it would look so much better, however it's just a style job, heavy and no real offroad substance like beefed up longer travel suspension, disk cover, hand protectors. Yamaha please bring out an XT500 twin shock retro bike.

Dealers were originally taking deposits based on a price of £6.5k before BSA told them to remove any reference to pricing, so I'm hoping they're thinking through exactly the points you're making. On the clocks/tech issue, I've always liked what Guzzi does with the V7, where you can choose between the Stone or Special versions. There will be loads of potential Bear buyers that don't want a big digital clock, so if BSA can give the option of having the beautiful clocks from the Gold Star then it offers something different to the Bear, along with the big single that's far better suited to this type of bike.

I agree the bike needs to be bang on point from day one, and the pricing has to be right. £5.5k seems to be the right area based on the Triumphs and also where the current Goldstar is priced. If it’s over £6k then customers have learnt that if they wait for a while BSA will reduce prices in order to sell them, and if you’ve already waited 6 months, then a bit longer isn’t such a big deal.

Every thing comes to he who waits. Better to release it a little later whilst ironing out those gremlins and pricing it competively .I believe BSA has learnt from the Gold Star poor release , whilst now ensuring they get their new products right first time, Reliability/competitve pricing resulting in great sales volume . The BSA Goldstar had many issues with reliability and delivery problems that really impacted on sales. For a new company and product line it’s not great. Enfield was in the same position 3-4 years ago and they sorted it out. The other issue is there is not enough dealership here

In my opinion this Scrambler is missing something here ,,,if its a Scrambler with any thought of going off road,it should have a 21inch front wheel and the front mudguard should be a proper one maybe styled like the 411s... Of course it needs a center stand ,,no doubt its a nice bike,,but there,s still lots of issues to sort out.. Make it look pretty sure ,,but thats the last issue to sort,,its got to be more practical,, function over form did not do the old RE 411 himi any harm and BSA always sold basic practical bikes why change

i develop electronic musical instruments for one of, if not the largest manufacturer in the world, they take time and often suffer setbacks due to the amount of software and more importantly the hardware linkups involved, these are complicated pieces of hardware BUT they are not motorcycles, knocking back the arrival time a couple of months on motorcycles is nothing - i know many will not appreciate or be aware of this but manufacturing on a mass scale is not easy, so many cogs have to line up - so many cogs....
the price is vital i agree, i said this myself - imo the bear is over priced by some margin - best part of 7k is getting up there for what the bike is, BSA can steal the thunder by going low, even if it is only in year 1 as a promo. The BSA easily has the looks dept covered too.

    • @MindfulMotorcyclist

Scramblers are supposed to have a single clock, no time to look at rev counters off road. So like the Bear the B65 will have a vibration proof LED LCD instrument bezel. This is also required to accommodate the multi riding modes. The show bike had the identical display and switch gear as used on the now proven Yezdi Scrambler. I don’t think the bike should undercut the Bear, it’s actually a better designed and built bike. I hope this time, release dates will be kept to and QA lessons will have been learned. With lower production runs but ramp up of the Gold Stars for its new markets, and the 350 going through final paces, there’s a lot going on. Really looking forward to the London show.

BSA had better hope the Scrambler is sorted when it comes out and it shouldn’t be priced close to the Bear 650 unless it can deliver the same or better performance.
That has been where companies have been failing with scramblers, lack of performance at a reasonable price. BSA has an opportunity to do something special here, we’ll see if they grab the chance.

One would hope that BSA won't make the same mistakes all over again. We shall see. However, the Gold Star has perhaps damaged this brand permanently (I believe)... a bike that was originally £7100 can now be purchased new for under £4999 😢 Imagine if you had paid full original list price for one. How would you feel now? And I've seen the tag line "buy yours now before the price goes back up to £6500. But who is going to pay that sort figure now? (Or ever again for that matter). And the delivery date for the new model has already gone back? Sound familiar?!!😮

Armchair expert here. The delay is indeed unfortunate. But once it arrives - the main factor - at least for me - is going to be the suspension. If they get that right it will be a cool bike worth having. Of course, if they price themselves out of the market, then the race will be lost before it ever started.
Maybe BSA would have done better to introduce an updated version of the Goldstar - show that they managed to solve the technical issues, listens what customer wants and win more people over. And only then come with a new model.
