- The former England captain shared many battles with the Aussie great on the pitch, but off it they became firm friends and shared Warne's last Christmas together.

@M Soccer will always be #4 football code in Australia for the simple reason is that AFL is so ingrained in southern Australia & Rugby League so strong on the east coast where State of Origin is the pinnacle.
Perhaps Rugby may be overtaken bu Soccer, although doubtful.
Soccer will never rise over the current level in Australia, NZ, Canada & the US, ever.
Just accept it is a global sport in other countries and move on.

Great tribute to Shane Warne but good on Michael Vaughan for giving a special mention for all the good work Rod Marsh did for the academy in England.Two cricketing greats who will be missed sorely.
I would say that he's more of a Maradona than Messi ...a flawed individual, someone who upends conventional norms in professional sport but is an unquestionable genius and peerless in his craft.

It's interesting vaughanie said about " an Australian" coz through watching him and seeing himplay , and later wth his mate warnie, he's one of few English cricketers I have respect for. In the very first IPL series in 2008, "the king of spin" Shane Warne not only played n captained for Rajasthan Royals RR but also provided necessary stewardship and inspiration. The result was for all to see; RR cruised to victory in a majestic style clinching the first IPL trophy 🏏 🏆 ... And very honestly speaking, ever since the professional cricket sports of cricket has changed for the better only in India, South Asia 🌏 🇮🇳 but also the world over.
Most of us grew up and wanted to be Warnie on the cricket field. Life is cruel. Condolences to the Warne family and friends

I have an idea for a memorial to Shane Warne.
A 50ft tall statue of him in cricket white's exactly the same as the Christ The Redeemer statue in brazil.
With arm's outstretched with a tennis ball in 1 hand, & possibly a mobile phone in the other hand to remind people of his text message drama.
The statue can be made with a steel internal frame, with the outside form of Shane made from computer designed ICAD modelling then made by 3D printing with plastic.
The statue could be put on a hill chosen by discussion.
The statue can be Named The Redeemer of Cricket.
It represents Shane's personality as a universally liked person, & his talent at cricket.
We have a lovely statue of Warnie in Melbourne- no need for anything bigger…
And his d*** in as many women as he could get his hands on. No thanks, he was an amazing bowler, that was all.

How disappointing. Warnie was the greatest leg spinner bowler to date. That is all. He doesn’t deserve a state funeral like Glenn McGrath would if he died.

True fact....Warne was good at throwing a ball but an unpleasant human being.
He was a womanising, unfaithful, selfish sportsman. He brought nothing more than additional success to an already successful Australian cricket team. He made millions doing what he loved. Yet here we offer a state funeral to such a shallow man. If it was Glenn McGrath, completely different story. This is part of what’s wrong with Australia.
