I think the fact that you broke these players over your knee with this strategy is the real win here, you went 2-0 in this challenge in my eyes, the way you played was very satisfying. It's not just the economic damage you did through killing overlords, the massive oversupply they started building to mitigate your threat cost them resources when they desperately needed them elsewhere, you didn't just cost them those resources, you also stole resources from their future
just imagine what a frustrating game this must have been for Bly. Like you are at the 5:30min mark, prepare for your all in, while that lunatic is killing your 5th overlord basically for free. so you go in, then realize that your all in got called and you are running in a f*ing fortress justt to realize that you lost another 10 overlords and THEN THE BALLS ARE HITTING YOUR ARMY IN THE FACE.
I don't even play SC2 but your gameplay and commentary is just so entertaining that I repeatedly find myself binge watching your content. Keep it up great stuff!
It's really, REALLY hard to supply block zerg forever- but it's not always about the amount of time blocked, it's also about the number of times they are supply blocked. It also is helpful that they have to split larvae between army and overlords. Picking queens amplifies the effect- (though they gain back 2 supply subtracting time from being supply blocked at first, they also can't mass-produce overlords after that or have to be more careful about over-production.)
It's not only about the supply block but also the additional cost of resupplying. They can mitigate your strategy by just having more supply available as a reserve after the first 3 snipes. But they always lose the money and macro-resources. The actual supply block is just the delicious icing on the cake. Take pride in knowing that you got into your opponents head so much that they invested thousands of minerals to not get supply blocked as much.
Love this series. In addition to being hilarious, I feel like we get to explore the game in a new way. I wonder if Harstem you actually learn new things about the game through this series? Also, idea for the series: you have to make at least 1 of every unit type for your race in a single game. You even have to make the temporary units: e.g. locust for Zerg, auto turret for Terran, hallucination for Protoss.
I was using strats like this 25 years ago. When a lot of people ignore sniping supply structures, a lot of people start putting them in dumb and extremely vulnerable locations they can't easily defend. It's great doing it as a Terran too like if you see someone cluster up supply depots so you can get them all with just one nuke. Oh no, a nuke warning! I'll check all my workers? Where is it??? Then they're supply blocked for the next 2 minutes. XD
please do this challenge some more, I very much enjoyed the hunt for overlords and it'd be interesting if you could do it against terran or protoss as well
This was a fun challenge to watch. It's hilarious watching the event player scramble like that. You could tell they were playing way outside their element
"Beating Grandmasters With Stupid Stuff" idea related to the game above: Play on the ladder as usual, but you can only build supply structures one at a time, and only when the game notifies you that you are supply blocked Easy mode if required: Allow building bases for supply
Maybe next time aim for a percentage of total game time. That way you won't need to extend the game and you won't be punished if your opponent surrenders due to massive soul crushing supply block!
you gotta try again with void rays and this time include taking down hatcheries in your strategy. looks to me like hatcheries were ignored or an afterthought but a few void rays with prismatic alignment zap 'em down fast and could make the supply block strategy work
i feel like that first player is probably the youtuber "e-sports story teller". hes always posting cool history about sc2's past. i could be wrong but the name lines up lol

I did a build the other night where I went 1 gas on 2 base with a robo and 6 gates. dumped all my chrono into the robo until I had 4 warp prisms. then dropped the main like a terran. lol I am diamond 2 but I would love to see if it can be done at your level. It truly was some stupid stuff. I have a replay if you want to see it as well. Anyway, always love the content. Cheers mate.

BGWSS: build as many disruptors as possible but only use them to shoot at buildings (siege disruptors) I could tell when you had your hood up in beginning you were gonna go ham.
I feel like at this point, The Cowboy is well known enough for cheeses and "stupid stuff", If you played a straight up meta/standard build it would totally take the other player by surprise.
Its more then that... supply block for zerg is a double banger... it creates the larva need, and the need ot build overlord, and then you can build units, and then those units can be larva'd... once they are larva'd they will always build.... COmpared to Terran.. you can q up units and sometimes they hover done.. waiting for supply to finish... Protoss can be the same way, but most peopel go warpgate..., but q'ing up units can be useful. If you had a more aggressive Overlord hunt... I think ti could of been something maddening... also you didn't use yoru lifts on lings or other huntis whne you had a tonne of lift energy on phoenixes and some died withotu using it.. so that is another thing... if you are flying you can also find out the opponenet group and build function, meaning they may have a hatchery set to for overlords... but yeah zerg can over compensate.. with overlords... but think of it this way... 40 overlords.. is 4k minerals. Thats 160 lings you didn't have to fight if you were jsut idling back and defending... killing overlords can make zerg more mangeable... that roach army owuld of been scary with 60 lings with it.... and he coudl ofexpanded and upgraded more... overlords.. are the weakness of zerg... once you find where tehy keep them... killing htem all is always a good idea... especailly if you warp in or war out... I am nto sure what unit kills overlords the fastest... but a mother ship recalling your army to do a overlord mass kill and then retreat.. lol.... Or if against terrran just disruptor their depots.. bom bom. I like seeing overlords pop... but i also hate losing overlords whe nthey are being poped... surprised it took 30 overlrods before he transistioned into hydralisks, llmao

Tough luck drawing 2 zergs for this challenge :( I feel like they'd have an easier time getting out of supply blocks because of zerg macro privileges. Game 1 guesses: Time supply blocked = 3:30 Overlords killed = 69 Game 2 guesses: Time supply blocked = 2:40 Overlords killed = 51
I'm actually wondering if this isn't a viable strategy at pro levels... Like the problem with overlords is that you can't protect them all the damn time because they're too slow to move with your army, and each one killed means not just less supply and minerals, but also one less larvae. They're essentially defenceless unless the Zerg stations hydras or mass queens near them, or make a forest of spore crawlers (which also cost minerals and larvae.) At the least, I feel like high level Protoss/Terran players should force Zerg to guard their overlords like they do their mineral lines.

you should do a supply block differential. so either he has 3 min more than you at the end of the game, or you have 3 min more than him. if you win and one of those conditions isn't true, it's an L
Let be bust out the cliches. I'm only diamond and I called 2:50 in the one game where it was 2:51. And like 1:30 in the bly game. I was also closer than you in the ovies. I knew the zergs were just pumping out overlords, I feel like it's just what they do once it starts getting sniped. And you could tell it's true when you see 4 pop out of one base. 😂. I think like voids or dts or immortal drops against Protoss could have been a really cool edition so I hope you try again soon

This is my favorite challenge. There's something very satisfying about sniping supply structures to me.

Also Harstem: Lands giant disruptor hits while opponent is microing against the void rays.

Yeah, that can really help because It does give supply and it is also the production to create more ovis.
It'll help him get ahead, but it might not be good to be too far ahead or the Zerg might leave.
The problem was that when you killed the overlords, you also sniped down some corruptors and mutas, so no supply block anymore.

What about nuking oponents by hiding nuclear dots with the camera rotation as an episode?
Actually its hard get 3 min of supply block with zerg because in mayority of the time u dont queue up like protos or terran

i played a terran on the ladder and he did this build (overlord sniping with a buncha vikings). Sadly, he didn't threaten me so I just killed him.

you can't supply block zerg for long. its like trying to dry up the ocean with a beach towel.
maybe next time you should also snipe the hatchery, so he wont be able to rebuild overlord and they dont have hatchery supply
