- Forget the renaissance, it's time for an 'Imran-aissance'! For the first time on HIAW we're discussing not one but TWO films on an episode starring our favourite chocolate boy of the 2000's & 2010's: Imran Khan. The two films are Shakun Batra's 'Ek Main aur Ekk Tu' starring Imran and Kareena Kapoor and Danish Aslam's 'Break Ke Baad' where Imran's leading lady was Deepika Padukone. To talk about the movies with us it's the return of film and TV critic Suchin Mehrotra. Yes, we got him to talk about non-blue people this time (to get that reference check out the episode we did with him on 'Avatar'). Topics discussed include: What made Imran special? What happened to the romantic chocolate boy in Hindi cinema? Did we not appreciate "frothy" cinema while we had it? The subtle portrayal of modern parenting in both films, how the leading ladies had more substantial roles in Imran's films, how the two films are similar and different, and a lot more.

This was such an awesome episode. Reviewing two videos in one podcast was really entertaining. I was engaged that entire time and the comparison between the two was interesting. I love Imraan Khan and hope that he makes comeback.
Imran has really perfected staring at remarkable women with love and awe in his big beautiful luminous soft boy eyes. I agree with Urjita - his eyes are beautiful, especially when you’re seeing a women he is observing with all that gentle quiet wisdom and love in his eyes, not even trying to do too much with that like Hrithik who has that gaze on high-pitch
Piku was another realistic and slightly flawed female character. She is grumpy, dominating, short-tempered and not a typical Bollywood sanskari girl. But real solid person dealing with life. My favorite by far.

Way better story telling in third class masala films of Tollywood. Hindi Cinema has lot of gems like PIKU.
I watched all imran khan films as a child that chocolate boy era is kinda gone how different the film was break ke baad was a sweet film

The Avatar episode with Suchin was so good! My favourite bit was the anecdote about Snayhil's dad not allowing him to watch Avatar 😭
But this episode was FANTASTIC. Really liked Suchin's observations and especially enjoyed the point about Deepika's character being similar to the characters that defined Ranbir's career.
For me the double future is i hate love stories .. it's so funny specially sameer Sony playing karan Johar's boot like version. And Sonam is a dumb designer .... And my favourite dialogue (idhar udhar ki bate wagera wagera)

I watched Break Ke Baad as a teenager. It's literally my entire childhood. So many of my friends loved it too. Would have loved it more if the episode focused just on that movie as it is an underrated movie. Ek Mai Aur Ek Tu honestly didn't deserve the amount of praise you gave it over Break Ke Baad. Anyway, lovely episode. Keep making cool stuff!
Maybe biased, but ek main aur ek tu cinematically is miles ahead of break ke baad.

The point about DP’s character being a flawed female character is only partly true - Kareena in K3G and Jab We Met ate that shit up and made us fall in love with women who could have come off as very bitchy or irritating. Deepika wasn’t as accomplished back then - did much better in Piku

Think they've got quite a few dates wrong, including the release years. That radar went off again at 43:42 when Abbas says Break ke Baad (2010) was released some years after Rock On (2008)... it was literally just two years!
