Your playing is actually incredible man, after hearing it im now learning it to play for my music practical in the leaving cert (the Irish version of final exams) never forget the talent you have 🙏🙏🙏❤️
Cheers, dude. I would recommend Gary Cooper's Pirate Songs for Concertina as a great starting purchase too. It'll explain the tablature I used on my sheet music (see description) and the book also has an arrangement of Grogg Mayles in it; he got permission from Robin Beanland to publish it. My arrangement of Bosun Bill is also fairly challenging, however his book has easier sea shanties too. So you can learn to play the instrument while still feeling the metaphorical winds of the high seas on your face :)
This was great, I have been trying to learn new songs on the concertina as well and without much of any music experience prior to playing I know how hard it is to accomplish more challenging pieces, such as what you have played. This was still very impressive despite the barely noticeable slip ups you had.
Good job. I've been planning to really practice but life gets in the way. When I retire I keep saying. Remember, here, recording you are putting yourself under intense scrutiny. In a live jam no one would notice. Hope to hear more.
Great stuff! That was super fun to listen to and as I bit of a musician myself it is actually encouraging to hear the little hesitations and minor mistakes because it shows your effort and that it is still fun and beautiful!
Even when you hesitated and tripped up a little, you kept going! Great performance mindset, and amazing playing overall! Loved every second of this, keep it up (:
I think Concertina Joel's arrangement is the best. I have, however, transcribed his arrangement into the same tablature system I used for this, if you're interested it's here: musescore.com/user/37659330/scores/7162161
this song makes me remember playing sea of thieves: i would play this music while a friend and I are getting yelled at by another friend for blowing 8 holes in our ship with blunderbombs (in the middle of a fight with another ship)
fuck yea dude! that was awesome! Im currently trying to learn this song on the mandolin and its tricky, but probably one of the best jams in that game. im still on the first 4 or 5 bars but this has made me want to practice. thanks for the inspiration lol

Very good! It's not easy on an Anglo. (It's not a sea shanty BTW, as these are specifically work songs used on board square-riggers,always following a caller-and-response format.)
I arranged it myself for concertina, took several weeks of trial and error, trying new things and different bellows directions and bass notes till I finally settled with this. The sheet music is linked in the description, if you're interested
Thanks. I do not have much to base my observations on, I've only owned a very cheap Scarlatti, and now this. In terms of playability it's a big upgrade. The bellows are very airtight in comparison. It's also a slightly smaller instrument. The reeds are a lot more responsive than my old Scarlatti too, I don't feel there's much delay between pressing a button and the note playing. The buttons don't press all the way into the ends either, so you don't need to press as much to open the valves. All in all I've been happy with my purchase, but if you're just starting out a cheaper one will be harder to play well, but is much more cost effective. Plus, if you can play a cheap concertina well, you can play a good concertina even better
please, anyone here could tell me the type / name of this accordion? trying to search "mini accordion" but dont find this cute design of the instrument.
@@iat.barbosa There are a few different types of Concertina too; English, Anglo, and Duet. The one I am playing is an Anglo Concertina in the keys of C/G (the most common keys you'll find)

Hey man, I posted a link to the sheet music I arranged in the video's description. If you're unaware of Gary Cooper's tablature system, I'd recommend Pirate Songs for Concertina on Amazon. It will explain the tablature, and also has sheet music for Grogg Mayles. Well worth it

LMAO my thoughts exactly
i actually LOVE the pauses, it makes it feel like he's drunk and hiccuping or stumbling, a VERY fitting image for bosun bill.
Very nice.
The unintentional hesitation underlines the personality of Bosun Bill.
I can picture him holding his step for a second :)
inspires all of us to go play sea of thieves after a long time of not playing
Sea Shanties aren't supposed to be perfect~ I think that's what makes them special in the first place. So your rendition is absolutely perfection~!

You might say it's sloppy, but those slight changes give it all the character! It's a wonderful rendition and you should feel proud of it!
