  • So you have a concertina but what type is it? Not all concertinas are the same. This short video tells you all you need to know. I have tutorials available on my website for both Anglo and English concertina.

    Man I missed that chance when my grandpa litterally has an accordion and I was a baby at that time and didn't even know how to play it but now I do.

    The 130 Key Chemnitzer Concertina that Albert Nechanicky invented is basically a bigger version of the Anglo-Chromatic

    Imagine hand straps that do not go to the thumb screws, but instead up and around your neck down and connected to the other hand strap.
    That way they will tighten around your hands automatically.

    Cheers for this! (Now know I had a 20-button Anglo... this would have been great to know at the time). Curious, do you have a preference to play yourself? Ta again!

    With looking at trying my hand at a new instrument, it what would you recommend for learning? It appears the anglo 20 button can play most of the music I would like to play. Are there any other things I should take into account when looking for a concertina?

    • @daddylongles
      @daddylongles  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      English is best for just playing tunes with no accompaniment. The anglo is best for playing tunes with accompaniment. 30 button anglo gives you more options with both the tune and the backing. 20 button anglo is great for simple folk tunes.

    What brand of anglo are you using in that video? I've been trying to track that specific one down for a while without any luck so any name or link would be much appreciated!

    • @daddylongles

      It's a Frank Edgley. Frank is Canadian and still makes them. They do come up used from time to time on concertina.net

      @@daddylongles cool! I got a Rochelle for starting off, but I've looked at Frank's website a lot and really wish I had 5k for one lol. I think I'll check concertina.net a bit for them and see if I can find any that I can afford. Thanks for the advice!

    What do you think, if I want to accompany myself singing Slavic and Klezmer folk , which is usually quite "sad" minoric - 20b Anglo would be enough?

    • @daddylongles
      @daddylongles  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, I think you would need a 30 button instrument. Sorry!

      Anglo is better for your choice of music but it's harder to learn than the English concertina in my opinion.
