    German orchestras are the best on this planet, the late Celibidache always talked about ¨der deutsche Klang¨what means the German sound,and he was right, German orchestras have this deep,colourful and passionate sound.and Frankfurt orchestra is no exception,it's so satisfying to listen to them.

      ..interesante observación, , también yo estoy de acuerdo que los alemanes tienen varias excelentes orquestas. Creo que el nivel técnico de los músico tanto de cuerda como de viento es muy parejo y esto unido a la particular disciplina de los germanos da como resultado orquestas de un alto nivel tanto en Alemania como en Austria.

    I have attended the concert in which they played a program that was purely dedicated to Brahms. At that time, Paavo Järvi was the chief conductor, and to me it was most astonishing how flexible the hr-Sinfonieorchester is to play this music in so different ways under Järvi on the one hand and Herreweghe on the other, while both are much admired conductors from my perspective. In this recording, the orchester plays in a brilliant, pure and transparent style which was and still is a pleasure to listen to.
    You may have endless discussions about Herreweghe's way of reading Brahms being too fast or too chamber music style - I just remind all who feel like this that there is a correspondence between Brahms and his friend Joseph Joachim - violinist and conductor - where Brahms complains in a friendly manner that Joachim is performing his symphonies "too fast". This shows us that these discussions are not new, and Brahms certainly considered Joachim one of the best interprets of his music ...

    • @chrisgordon6599
      @chrisgordon6599 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      eriol2002 Yes and Brahms was right! The last movement, a rondo, sounds rushed and without any sense of a justification for taking it too fast. All little details, especially in the beautiful Brahms writing for woodwind is lost, hurled to the four corners of the world without ever being able to be savoured by the listener. The brass chorale at the end of the movement sounds 'brushed aside' so when the Schumann quote follows, it does not have the pathos and feeling of nostalgia (remembrance) that Brahms - intentionally - meant it to have as it appears AF the end of the first movement, too. (It is a quote from the first movement of Schumann's Third Symphony, 'The Rhenish'). If Herrewege had tried this with a less experienced orchestra, say an amateur orchestra, it would have fallen apart at the seams. It is only the superb musicality of the orchestra and their technical skill that stops it from falling apart. When a conductor relies on an orchestra like that, it doesn't say much for his (or her) ability or craftsman(woman)ship.

    Remarkable performance. The woodwinds section is phenomenal. The first clarinetist solos in the first movement are played with such a honeyed tone. And the first flute and oboe are just as phenomenal. Finally, I, too, am impressed by the rather muscular and unsentimental approach to Brahms. Thank you hr-Sinfonieorchester!

É um obra harmônica, sua melodia é intensa e contínua. Alguns dos mas belos temas da música estão em seus quatro movimentos.

    Have never heard a recording where the orchestra plays the repeat of the exposition of the 1st movement- exciting! I noticed from this recording how much sophisticated syncopation upon syncopation makes up the 1st movement. Brahms puts in a secret message via the melody: low F-A-high F, meaning “frei aber froh,” “free (from being in a relationship) but happy.” This in contrast with “frei aber einsam” (free but lonely).

    This is certainly the most exciting Brahms Third I've heard, but at the sacrifice of its grandeur, charm, and final peace in its closing pages. What I heard here seemed over-dramatized and graceless, with unusual ideas of accents, balances, and note values by conductor Herreweghe, compromising the symphony's natural flow and import and the great performance of the orchestra. My attention was diverted from the music and onto the conductor's strange view of it. My subjectivity is enhanced by my lack of knowledge perhaps, and this is doubtless a valid conception of the symphony; it's just not mine. I hope to hear Maestro Orozco-Estrada's interpretation of it in the future.

    Orchestra, as usual, excellent. Unfortunately, third movement much too fast, the whole inner pain of that miraculous movement got lost. Fourth movement way too fast as well. As in another comment already stated, only thanks to the fantastic musicians it didn't fell apart. Just listen to Christoph Eschenbach and Houston Symphony Orchestra. Wonderful.

    I rarely say this, but it's too fast, at least in the finale. Just too fast.

    This is too fast. So fast that it ruined the meaning of some of the slow parts. I don’t understand why everybody wants to rush the music nowadays? Let the music breathe and be expressed. Notice the fourth movement, after the last climax, how it’s so meaningless.... sad.

      Some would say that slow tempi are often too indulgent and ponderous. Chacun a son gout.
