Although very familiar with Jewish culture, I didn’t know that observant Jewish folks didn’t shake hands. Few years ago I met an observant Jewish person and extended my hand to shake his. When told that he wouldn’t touch my hand and to not get offended, I smiled and said that I understood because in my culture we greet each other with a “namaste” 🙏🏼. I saw him again a few months later and he called out to me saying “Namaste 🙏🏼.” I thought it was so wonderful, thoughtful and respectful!

I love this. My husband and I made the commitment many years ago and we had many problems during our marriage and had to rebuild the marriage many times. We had to fall in love many times. People don’t stay the same and find new parts of each other that we loved. Love is something that happens and you have to grow life a life plant.

Thank you Rabbi and Rebetzin for your wisdom. A question I would pose is, doesn't a hug or peck on the cheek of a friend show that you value them and their friendship above just another person you may know? Isn't it just a sign of affection for a dear friend without it becoming sexualized?

I don’t want some strange person touching me, of either gender. Couples that are smooching and pawing each other in public, it is rude and dishonors themselves. Some animals do it in public without shame, but other animals first perform elaborate courting rituals that set aside the act as special from the other acts of instinct.

Very very good to underline that we are all keeping the Torah, since the word orthodox is a word given from someone outside the observant Jews. We are orthopratic. I like to do what it is said : Not take a observant Jewish womans hand. She belongs to her husband not to me at all. Very good information and teaching. keep up the very good work, Folke from Sweden.

It's fascinating listening to them, because they really believe in what they say and they look very happy. But I also know that my life was very different and there are many different ways to be happy in marriage: I 've been happily married for 21 years and neither of us believe in God or verginity before marriage. And taking away physical contact with other human beings from me would be like killing me, even though I have never thought for one second that I could betray my husband. But hugging my friends of both genders in times of distress isn't certainly a sexual act, but simply an act of kindness.

Right away, when you mention the shaking of hands and making physical contact. It does say a lot about loyalty. I am not a jew but I am a christian. There are some men that I know who will not hug another woman unless his wife is around. Its out of respect and loyalty because if his wife isn't around to see it. It can be disrespectful. So I do see where your religion comes from to a degree with that. I know that I wouldn't want my husband to go hugging every woman he saw or was friends with. I didn't see it with my dad unless it was a very close friend of both my parents who had equal respect for their spouse. Intimacy before marriage ruins a lot for after you marry. Often times, those couples dont stay together. It shows you dont have self respect.

I don't entirely share the same opinion as you, that marriage comes first and then love; but what I do agree with is that love most certainly grows daily in marriage .. and that intimacy is more special - deeper, and overall incredible - in marriage. I believe intimacy outside of marriage cannot compare to intimacy within marriage.
Another thing .. non-Jewish people just don't go around kissing and hugging every woman or man that we see, as your absolutely beautiful wife suggested. We do hug and/or kiss those we love and care about, of course .. but there are certainly lines drawn, for most people, as to whom gets shown our affection in that way. In marriage, loyalty is paramount, and our affection toward our spouse should be held in the most high regard than toward any other relationship or person. There is absolutely no wiggle-room whatsoever where that is concerned.

In fact, Judaism and Korean’s 5,000 years of tradition are very similar in laws and regulation especially in marriage. Approximately 1930, less than 100 years ago, my loving and caring parents get married when they’re both in 18 years old and they had 78 years of prosperous and happy marriage life together, but most Korean had to get married first in their teenage years approx.15-18 years old “in an arranged marriage”, then they met in the first night of wedding ceremony for the first time, then possibly intimate physically later on. Unfortunately, those days most marriages were a miserable york for women to serve and sacrifices for husband and his family suffered in slavery. Therefore, there’s big difference between Judaism which respect and cherish women as a wife and mother, but not in Korean marriage. I suffered without voice my entire life and will never go back those painful days.🤷‍♀️😭😭😭

I’m a Christian but after 12 years working in the Middle East, not touching the opposite sex (other than husband &family) is a big part of my values. There is nothing bizzare about this.

These guys have a great thing , this thing is the thing that everybody who is a human and not completely bent will understand and therefore the laws of jews will be understood and the same people , at least the sane people , will get it . And that is a good thing my friends .

@@myJLI The contrast of how man and woman explain this thing is very intriguing , surely there is wisdom even by the example of the thing that you are on topic about , man / woman , in marriage and contrast in explaining the thing , two styles that become one ... Thank you for doing these videos , it is a service that deserves thanks .

Thank you for this video. After 28 years years (I'm 38) I decided to convert. I've wanted to since I was 10. I'm worried that I chose the wrong "type", if you will (reform). I'm very conservative and I like following the rules for G-d, but no one really even shows up to Shabbat! Am I being stupid? Or did I not do enough research first? Every time I research a question it's like taking one step forward and twit steps back; I wind up with more things I want to know than I began with!

Sounds like a real journey! Judaism strongly believes in asking questions and Jewish texts are full of debate. We hope our videos will help you find more answers.
