Thank you for this video. I have mained paladin on and off since MoP to Dragonflight. Both Holy and Ret seem more fun to play in retail atm than Cata. So I'll try something else in classic Cata. Shaman maybe, since I'm a player who enjoys healing, but also dpsing on occasion.
just tried my 80 ret paladin right now and leveled to 81, feels like a clunky mess. why on earth does divine storm and crusader strike share cooldown?????????????????? why doesnt judgement or hammer of wrath give holy power? actually insane. holy power generation is so slow im literally falling asleep. i didnt have high hopes for cata but so far i've tried a total of 5 dps classes (3 of those i leveled to 85) and every single one feels bad to play, class design is just straight up bad.
I originally started as ret but by the time I even started doing Gamma’s I slowly leaned away and went with prot spec instead because it feels way better and it’s fun unlike ret
I think something that must be said is that when you're fighting 3+ targets u just swap seals to Righteousness and TV becomes a sort of AOE spell. thats where the AOE component to HP spenders is. TV procs do tons of damage with SOR
The big thing missing here is, like how it was in wrath. In wrath you used seal of command for aoe pulls and seal of vengeance/corruption for single target. Here it is the same thing but righteousness instead of command. I do agree that there is still something missing for those big aoe pulls.
Bro..what's the best spec for pala in Cataclysm, Holy or Retry? I like both, but based on, you know, retry being a good dps or holy being a good healer, which one it's the most useful in pvp?
Retribution is very weak before you get raid loot, you can barely reach 20k dps with your cds and burst but it starts to climb when we reach firelands gear or thats what i atleast remember
TLDR: If you like the "spinning plates" feel of specs like Shadow or Affliction where you are forced to plan ahead and get punished heavily for mistakes, Cata Ret is for you. If you think Wrath Ret is the best thing since sliced bread Cata Ret is not for you. For me it ticks all the boxes. It has a very difficult rotation that rewards you for mastery and has procs and a change to the rotation during burst to keep things interesting. Inquisition is often hated, but it is THE thing that takes Ret from a spec of just hitting what lights up to really having to plan ahead and pay attention to everything going on around you. Simply following a paint by numbers addon like CLC Ret won't get you close to using the ability correctly IMO. The burst is amazing, but you have to set it up properly to get the full value. The damage is insane and you feel like a god once you get it down. Their survivability is in a really good spot this expansion, and in PvP simply swapping seals can make a big difference when you are being focused. In PvP they feel like the Terminator.... your cleanse can pull off slows and the judgement speed buff is a godsend (only hunters and good Frost Mages gave me trouble). The buffs you bring are incredible. The utility you provide can save your entire raid from wiping if used correctly, and using this utility while maintaining the difficult rotation is why the skill ceiling is so high. Your offhealing in PvP is disgusting; with talents your Word of Glory on a low health target is a guaranteed crit and is like a mini Lay on Hands. You can play it like a Warrior and just focus on damage, but you wouldn't come close to the potential it brings to a raid. If you like the Wrath style, I would suggest Arms or DK which are both great choices.
As a ret main I'm probably gonna give up ret for cata, I was never a fan of turning most specs into the "builder>spender" gameplay loop and especially going from wrath into cata since ret has still kept the same gameplay loop all the until now even in dragonflight, it's a bit stale for me. My favourite iteration of Ret is probably TBC's with its unique gameplay mechanic of seal twisting. I'm probably gonna switch to Druid or Shaman.
1:15 when the boss pulled and you had to just sit there spamming the crusader strike button because nothing else to press, thats one of the reasons why cata ret is dogshit. then when you do finally get your holy power, you gotta spend it on inquisition, the objectively worst buff in the game.
that doesnt mean its not dogshit. its dogshit because of how overpowered it is. nobody asked for a maintenance buff to be added to the spec. any holy power not spent on templars verdict is the biggest limp dick feeling in the game. holy power as a system is fine, in cata, it was not fleshed out and inquisition sucks ass. i genuinely hope whe ncata comes they #somechanges and actually fix ret paladin because it has major issues and feels worse to play than vanilla ret. @@nikoladimitrov4057

There's a reason divine storm became our spender for aoe eventually.
exactly!

same feels, prot seems the fun spec tho

We are getting 4.3.4 patch so rets will be in a better state to begin with but still scale well with gear
@@mijae1146 thank goodness, this is my main spec ! subbed to your channel thanks for the bid

Tell me about that difficult rotation please.
You may have just convinced me..
Plan ahead?
The majority of its dps is just rng procs, its literally
keep inquisition up, pray for procs.

Shaman ftw!
2:27 m8 you forget the seal, and the fact that TV is instant and has 0s cd

he could've pressed Holy Wrath, and also Inquisition is literally one of the strongest buffs in the game, don't know what you're talking about

Yeah he just didn't follow the rotation there, he definitely had something to fill that GCD.
how's arms warrior?
S tier the entire expansion!
