When news of Toriyama passing away came out, one of those freaks on X/twitter or whatever it's called these days outright accused Toriyama of being racist because of Mr. Popo's character design calling it akin to blackface (it was actually inspired by an Indian deity who is portrayed similarly in their country's culture).

Toriyama created multiple generations. He created worlds and childhoods. He influenced artists and works from all walks of life. A legend that lived amounst us. That said I want to throw hands with anyone or anything trying to ruin that legacy.
How can people not realize, when you abandon the vision of the IP and carelessly just push out content, it completely destroys the value of that brand. Why in the hell would you destroy your own property like this? You'll make way more money if you actually put some effort into quality control. The whole reason why you want the IP in the first place is because it is able to draw in audiences like crazy, but then you do everything you can to completely ruin it's ability to do that. Even if all you want is money, it's just bad business.

For a lot of these game companies, these multinational corporations, government organizations, HR departments, educational institutions and so on, yes that makes sense. It's wild. When the Boy and the Heron came out I thought Miyazaki was being full of himself with the interviews around it, and even when I realized the meta-narrative about the movie, I still thought he was high on ego.
But I've come to realize, he's completely right. When a creator dies more than likely their work will be cannibalized by executives and business men just trying to keep their game running one more day. He'd talk about when he dies how the magic will die with him and he was right. We see it time and time again. Right now we are seeing the best case scenario of the situation where Toriyama has a friend who deeply cares about the IP and even still the corporations have no love or respect for his wishes or work outside of the money. When Toriyama died, so did the magic. When Tolkien died, so did the magic. When these creative powerhouses die the best thing that can be done is preservation of their vision, and the worst is a mockery of what their vision once was for penny's on the dime.

But if this shows up in your feed, @SMAS_YT, basically most “woke” content tends to focus on representation and “spreading a message” rather than telling a compelling story first. Most of the time, the story actually severely suffers because of this because priorities aren’t allotted accordingly nor is the “woke” stuff blended in properly.
Also, it just tends to be _glaring_ in prominence, especially when the series has already been established before.

I don't think people realize Toriyama had already been checked out from Dragonball, they already tried to monetize DB with GT, Super, the "alternate universe" one, the baby one, and a host of other mobile games.

Canon is pretty simple actually. Anime and manga represent the 2 canons, everything else is just spin off materials. Toyotaro is the new writer for the manga and this guy has been given the rights by Toriyama personally, then anything he doesn't approve is fanfiction.

As for canon. Dragon Ball Xenoverse 1 and 2 is canon because Akira toriyama was there and helped them doing it. Thats why we have seen Mira and Towa in other mainline games like DBZ Kakarott.

Then they could do projects with the other Super universes, non-canon stories like DBZ movies and GT.

Another example of an IP being a mindless content farm is the Jurassic Park/World franchise. After The Lost World came out, Chrichton didn't want to make anymore novels and Spielberg didn't want to direct. So ever since then via the first Jurassic World, the brand has become dumbed down to pander to the lowest common denominator.
And after Timeline (2003) Chrichton said that he wasn't going to allow anyone to make movie adaptations of his books while he was still alive; he dies in 2008 and what happens - the corporations wait awhile (probably to see what his estate will do with unfinished works, etc) and then make Jurassic World. Ugh.

Couldnt Dragon Ball have happened similar to what The Hobbit did? The Hobbit was passed to the Tolkien Estate and they control all rights to it. I dont know Japanese law, but I would assume Toriyama did something similar, if his family, or Akio got the rights to it, it should be fine.
This must be spread in the anime communities. However, the rights should belong to his family and his friend,we must back up his family and friend on this battle ,they can't do this alone!
