    Thanks man I took an old S4 I had and used it for my IR and its working like a charm. Im able to turn on my TV, change the input channel and turn on my xbox along with many other things.

    Thanks for this video; i was able to grab an old S3 and set this up in around 10 min and spent $0. Now i can turn on/off my tv at will within Alexa's range JUST BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE IT!. You fools making stupid comments about you not buying a phone just to do this, your problem is the only old phones you have are IPHONES!

    Thanks, the video help me set up a Echo Dot with a Samsung tablet that had a IR Blaster. It took me a while and some trial and error to get it worked out, but now controlling a DirecTV DVR by voice works pretty good. Really nice that I did not have to buy another piece of hardware to use Alexa for this.
    For me I think what made it finally work is that I re-did the syncing of Alexa and the anymote as a last ditch step after having done that earlier. Then all of a sudden Alexa saw the remote I labeled TV, which to that point Alexa kept telling me it could not find my remote in the anymote app when it was clearly there. lol
    Especially nice if lying down on the couch and the DVR remote is across the other side of the living room on the arm of the chair. A remote Control click is quicker if it is right next to you, but as we all know the remote control can wind up in spots where you have to get up to retrieve it on occasion.

    • @TechySpeaking
      @TechySpeaking  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steve Hughes exactly. The practicality of this definitely doesn't replace a remote if it's right next to you, but there are time when it's not.

    • @stevehughes5403
      @stevehughes5403 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      one tip I can offer for use is on my DirecTV DVR is for 3 digit channels like say channel 359 is verbally format 359 properly. so say
      "Alexa ask anymote to channel three hundred fifty nine"
      if I say three five nine it will change to channel 3 then say it doesn't understand the command 5 and 9. lol
      Thanks again Nate.

    Great video. Thanks! How does Alexa communicate with your phone (on the mantle)? Is the Alexa App installed on it?

    • @TechySpeaking
      @TechySpeaking  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Willing Tan yes, but the connection between the Echo and the phone comes from the AnyMote app on the phone and the AnyMote Skill for Alexa.

      Mos traditional devices like TVs and cable boxes use IR from remotes, but if you have some WiFi devices, AnyMote can control those as well.

    I believe I just viewed the other video you were talking about and I tried this, but it didn't work for me. I will give it another try, because I am constantly searching around for my remote control, thus having the ability to speak a command and have the TV work would be ideal.

    I enjoyed watching your video. However, I was wondering what you use nowadays in 2018 since Anymote has gone out of business and it's app is no longer supported? I don't want to pay for the expensive Harmony Hub just to control my cable box so I was hoping that you might have an idea of what alternative there currently is for Anymote?

    Im a bit concerned that the phone is always on. This could blow the battery and/or consume a lot of electricity. One way round this is to buy a plug with a timer on it so it only comes on for 1 hour during the day to charge up the phone, then after 1 hour its charged and the plug turns off.

    Controlling TV with your voice is fine - but not enough for the lazy ones. Maybe some time in the future they develop a tiny control for your hand. Would be cool just to press "2" on it and TV would switch to channel "2"!!!

    thanks mate for the video !!! so to make it easy all we need is an app ,echo and a phone/tablet with irblaster right ??? but what's confusing is anymote sells a device that works in conjunction with phone to control what you showed without the device called anymote home

      When I try to use volume or mute control, it brings up the "Let's set up your remote." message on the TV screen, expecting me to pair the "remote". But the app on the phone doesn't have the "Setup" button that pairing requires, since it isn't an actual remote, so no-go for volume controls and turning on and off. I think its gonna work for the guide, though. The menu button works and the channel changing arrows work.

      just buy a broadlink rm
      you can find the IR only version for like 10$ you still need an always on android device just like anymote but it you do not need one with IR blaster and anymote does not work with mot android device IR blasters ,i use anymote to controll my TV via wifi with my non Ir tablet but it is not a good solution ,very unreliable and you cant tell it to tune to digital channels because it wont do a dash so you cant tell 7-1 for example
      plus with the broadlink it recognises every comand you set up as a hue light so you can just program it the way you want by creating new devices for every command and then use alexa nativr voice comands , you only have to say turn on and turn off and not tell anymote to

      How many times have you lost a remote?

  • @rspain85
    @rspain85 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    This is the most clunky impractical setup in history. Buy a Harmon hub and be done with it. Nobody wants to devote their phone to this task. Or buy a phone on ebay with an ir blaster just to do this. Headache after headache.

    I opened this video because it was entitled Control your TV With Amazon Echo, foolishly thinking it was going to teach me how to do what the title inferred. Much to my dismay all it really showed me was that your cell phone was face down on a shelf and connected to a charger. I knew exactly no more when the video was over then I did when it started. Not at all helpful.

    Too much voice work as well as tedious/slow to do simple tasks on the television.

    Too much effort,when I'm sitting on my after a hard days work I don't want to be having a conversation with a machine to change the channel on my TV, the simplest idea is always the best idea and that is why this and other things like it such as Philips hue will never take off,it's easier to change channel with a zapper and it's easier to turn on a light with a simple switch,all this is doing is trying to reinvent the wheel

      Your absolutely right. I have a car, its so much hustle. Oil changes, tire wear, water coolant, brake wear etc etc Wish i had a horse and cart. The simplest ideas are the best lol.
      His setup is hustle i agree, but Continuous progress will lead to something better easier, just like your zapper enabled you to change channels from the comfort of your armchair instead of getting up every 5 minutes.
