There is an art to ... being able to take, what appears to be on the face of it, two random and seemingly disparate items, but you assist the listener, to make the connection on their own. Like, yea, but that's going from A to D without explaining what B and C are.
Ah you're overthinking it.
Seriously? So you didn't get how him explaining that Ryan replaced generic phrases with things that conjure funny visuals makes the process of learning to be funny less abstract and gives you a clearer idea of what to go for?
Why can't people accept that social skills are SKILLS? As in stuff that you'll inevitably suck at in the beginning, regardless of whatever advice you get, and that you'll have to practice and fail repeatedly before you can be good at it.
Just because a piece of advice won't make you instantly funnier doesn't mean it's bad advice. If you think it is then you just don't understand how skills work.
You learn by training. Anything.
perzackly.
This won't work for normal people irl anyway. You'll come off as cringe, annoying and tryhard. Nobody in everyday social situations wants to hear someone acting like they're trying out weak stand up material.

Self-confidence is key. Next video: "how to fly"
"IT MAY SOUND DIFFICULT, BUT YOU CAN DO IT WITH A LITTLE PRACTICE..."
Here’s what you have to do. The main thing that flying requires is the ability to throw yourself at the ground and miss. You must throw yourself forward with all your weight and the willingness not to mind that it's going to hurt, however it will surely hurt if you fail to miss the ground. The difficulty is in missing the ground, and doing so accidentally, as deliberately intending to miss the ground does not work.
It is also advisable not to listen to what others may say, as they could say something such as: "Good God, man, you can't possibly be flying!". It is vitally important not to believe them or they will suddenly be right, and you will find yourself failing to miss the ground once again.

Being funny is a natural thing.. you can't rehearse/ practice to be funny. People are gifted with quick wit and awesome timing
The key here is instead of answering questions directly and dryly, make your responses into stories. This can draw out conversations and keep the small talk to an absolute minimum.
But remember to not make everything about yourself. Context of a situation matters.
But don't forget when making your responses into stories, to avoid the Abe Simpson effect...
"We can't bust heads like we used to. But we have our ways. One trick is to tell stories that don't go anywhere. Like the time I caught the ferry to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for m'shoe. So I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. 'Gimme five bees for a quarter,' you'd say. Now where were we...oh yeah. The important thing was that I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones..."
RIP ABE
@Keep300 Yeah, it's about delivery really, you can keep things from getting long-winded (because nobody likes people who talk too much), but making sure to give people enough rope to keep the conversation and interesting.
But honestly, if you're good at asking questions and focusing on the person instead of yourself, that would probably help more than telling stories imo.
