Hey!! Good to here from you GATEKEEPER! I have watched a tune of your video's and lorded a lot thank you for all the awesome videos!! Yep you guessed it Bluegrass!
@@radioactiveamps3961 I see you have quit the videos to bad. I really wanted to talk to you. Wish you the best man I know and understand. Just dang I didn't get a chance to say hello and Talk to you.
The "Board & Sink" are made by ICA Manufacturing and others. The transistor holes are punched out by the manufacturer. You can order them with as many transistor holes as you need.
Really nice. Good neat job dude. I really enjoyed this. Im trying to learn how to work on mine. You are the first person ive seen that show start to finish. I actually think I could do this but it would be alot slower. Enjoyed to the max dude.
First of all, I watch all your build videos. Second, I want to learn more about building these amps. Could you do a more granular amp building video series? Right from the basics like parts used, why you use the parts you do, how to build the keying relay etc etc. From start to finish. With close ups of some of the finer details. I would really appreciate it! Keep up the good work. 73's
That's a great idea. I have been messing with these things for years, and I would really like to learn more about the different classes AB, C etc. Everyone I have asked can't or won't explain it. It's almost like it's a secret or something.
@@kenneth6731 c class is zero biased, good only for AM and FM, not for SSB. SSB is better with A or B or AB bias, make the pills switch on with about 0.65 volt, makes the modulation very clear to understand at the other side of the QSO.
What mix are the transformer ferrites? 43, 61, 67? How many turns of what size wire on the input and output transformers? Awesome building video, I subscribed, I'll stay tuned on your channel. Thanks, Phil in Panama City, FL
Can you set up a video on how to build the ferrite core windings for this Amp ? You are very intricate in your build of this Amp. Your the 1st to show almost every detail. Thanks
Good day rambling man. Nice video. Curious looking solder. If I am not mistaken it is the first time I have seen solder that looks like it has stripes or twirls. To the best of my knowledge I went to the American solder website and i did not see that solder in their catalogue. Do you know if it available from American solder? I am typing from across the peace bridge from Buffalo NY stranded in Fort Erie Canada!😊✖
I really like the parts layout and the neatness of your builds. If I wanted to build one like this and Add Biasing so I could run AM and SSB how would I do that?. I know I would need to get a stable .6vdc approximately to the base of the transistors fed through wire wound on ferrites. How would I do this and is there a schematic for this amp? Thanks very much, Phil
@@radioactiveamps3961 That's fine we all owe you a cup of coffee anyways, for slowing your builds down and fighting that camera for us. We really do appreciate your work. I like the way you take however much time needed to make it as perfect as can be. I'm a little OCD I won't send my new 2995 to get tuned up because I'm afraid they will scratch it or knock paint on the screws off lol I put a piece of cloth between my screws and screw drivers lol I sent the first one back because it was scratched on top. 700.00 for a new radio shouldn't be scratched right ? lol thanks buddy for everything.
Yep it will bend them if it is not spread on evenly. Thinner the layer the better it acts and a sink heat away from the device. If it the metallic kind be careful not to get it on any surfaces where it can short out the circuits as well. That's the way I do mine as well, I step torque the transistors in place to spread the thermal compound evenly. About 10-15 inch pounds is more than enough. What transistors are you suing in this build, Hg 2879s? I would mount the transformers on there and then get the + bias rail busbar mounted where I wanted it and then proceed on with the rest of the work. I see there is no resistor and cap with an electrolytic, along with a diode for the SSB so I take it this is for class C only. Too bad. I run SSB alot so I would need and on off switch for that as well. With the electrolytic for the relay delay as well. I do not understand why you don't go under the output transformers with the B+ power to the transistors. Like BBI does, makes for a cleaner looking job to me, if you go underneath with the power supply circuit.
Those box's are clear coated i saw you buff so239 location however you have the ground tab on the 239 but not soldered to the board. That is a must do. Don't forget.
I see that your splitter coil has a 100 (I think) ohm resistor attached to it. On some 4 pill amps I notice that there is no resistor on the splitter coil on what looks otherwise about like the same circuit as your amp with the same board from ICA I suppose. So, was that a mistake on their part or what?
You technically do not need one on the input. That resistor is there ONLY to let you know when there is an enbalance. This will show up on the output first because the load is great during a mismatch. So you'll see some use them on the input....some not. Really isn't an important component for that location.
Do you sell kits and instructions for these 4 pill builds ? Also where can a person find actual literature to learn these type of amplifier builds? Will wait for your response, Thanks

Thanks for the sharing mate. One question how do we do the bias on SSB? I am new on this hobby
Apply .65 v on the base of the transistor for AB bias.

Those transistors don´t have bias on the base? or that amplifier is only for FM operation.

Before I put solder on the pill strips I use a hack saw blade to make the cuts. Cut just enough to take the coper off. Then solder the strip.
