Thank you so much you are the only TH-camr they gave the ranges of lipase & amylase everyone just is explaining what it means but never gave a range of what The normal ranges are. I know they’re different as you said yet Thank you so very much again.
Not sure if you are still seeing questions or not… According to the chart used on my patient portal, it says that the normal lipase range is between 7-60 u/l. My levels were tested yesterday at 104. I was told that is abnormal. I have had stomach pain in my right upper abdomen for about 4 weeks now. That’s what prompted me to go to an Urgent Care center yesterday. Is there a difference between IU/L vs U/L? I am a nervous wreck right about now. I’m scheduled for an ultrasound next week.
For the units, u/l is a measure of concentration, while iu/l is a measure of activity. Always go by the range printed on your report because normal ranges can vary by instrumentation and by geographical location. Being nearly twice the top of normal is concerning and I hope your doctor finds the answer. Your body was telling something is wrong through the pain.
Why does it vary from lab to lab? Shouldn't it be standardized? My amylase was 89, from a range of 31-110 and my Lipase was 119 from a range of 12-78, so lab considered high. Would be in the normal range according to your info. I have a cyst in the unicate process of pancreas and now require an MRI to check on it further due to lipase being at 119. CA19.9 was 22, so normal range. Let's see how this turns out. Why do lab ranges vary?
Lab ranges vary because they are set by each manufacturer of analyzers and reagents. That is why it is always best to interpret the values based on the ranges that have been established for that specific analyzer/reagent combo in that specific geographical area/population. Those would be the ranges listed on your lab report. Often with enzymes, the immediate concern is if they are several times the upper limit of normal, indicating some sort of acute injury to the tissue. You also should consider that it is possible to see individual variations and ranges are based on assaying hundreds of normal people, which gives you a bell curve distribution to the data, in which some people are invariably on the edges.
My amylase level is 270 with range 30-115 and lipase is 835 with 23-300 ... My ultrasound shows pancreas is normal.. but i have occasional pain in abdomen under ribs and the back.. should I be concerned??
Low enzyme levels in the blood are usually not an issue, the main concern is if they are too high and indicate pancreatitis. I hope your ultrasound sheds light on what is going on. You can also talk to your doc about adding digestive enzymes to take with meals, that is an easy inexpensive fix. But if that is not the issue, it won't help much!
The question then becomes is this normal for her? Not everyone falls in the population normal range. If her physician is concerned, the levels can be repeated to see if they stay there or if they increase.
I guess it is possible since you would be eating less carbs and not a lot of starches at all, but I am not sure there are any studies documenting this in the population. Low levels of amylase (or any enzyme) in the blood are not a concern. Physicians use enzyme levels to detect tissue damage, which is reflected by elevated levels of the enzymes that the tissue contains.
If you follow GI tract transit times you should be making lipase from 30 min to 6-8 hours after a meal. But that is lipase release in the GI tract. Blood levels likely do not fluctuate that much based on what you eat. We always have some lipase in the blood, likely from absorption in the small intestine as we absorb lipids and other nutrients. The levels have to be 3x the upper limit of normal to consider pancreatitis.
@@DrAsClinicalLabVideos thank you Dr! I always get worried when trying to read lab results, especially when the physician who ordered doesn’t respond to my emails 😅
Welcome! Check out the website Lab Tests Online. They have great info on lab tests and you will likely get more info than what your doctor will tell you. labtestsonline.org/
Probably not, it could be normal for you. Normal ranges apply for 95% of the population, meaning there will be 5% that will be out of that range. If you are concerned, you should have your physician follow up on it. Here is the Mayo clinic's info on pancreatitis, which is the disease that the amylase and lipase tests screen for. www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/pancreatitis/symptoms-causes/syc-20360227

Maybe consider eating foods that will help it heal: www.healthline.com/health/pancreatitis-diet
Where do u do test And how ?
Depends on your health care system. Physicians can order the test, it is done on blood
maybe here? www.healthtestingcenters.com/search-results/?search=all

my 14 yr old daughter's amylase is 114.5 is it normal...the range in the lab says it 25-90.

Does low carb diet dicrease amylase ?
My amylase is low level but all my enzyme including liver enzyme are normal
No history of pancritice

My Lipase is 130. How long does it take the pancreas to release Lipase into the bloodstream after a high fat meal?

Can this help find stomach cancer ?
No, there are no markers for stomach cancer currently. Diagnostic imaging is the way to diagnose it, along with a biopsy.
I’m a 31 year old male and my lipase test came back with a 23 is that normal or a concern??
Enzymes are only a concern if they are above the reference range from the report.
@@DrAsClinicalLabVideos ok it says the standard range is
23 is
