  • Geoffroy de Reynal is an engineer who designed waterproof shelters, which are made of polyethylene foam and aluminum foil.
His invention intends to tackle the high rates of homelessness in urban centers like Paris and help those who are most vulnerable when temperatures drop drastically.

With little air vents, I’m sure the homeless stay warm with this method. Without a body heat warm shelter they’d freeze to death. A good man created these igloos to save lives. They’re light weight to easily transport, too. Great idea. This world needs more caring people to help the less fortunate.

We need to find solutions like this to help homeless people in cold and extreme hot climates.

    Greetings from India,
We have been working on several prototypes of foldable shelters for the homeless, its extremely light in weight yet strong, compact can carry in a bagpack, weather proof, it has a hand crank generator, comes with a heating /cooling unit and mobile charging. This would help so many homeless, id like to hear your thoughts on it.
Share the details hope it helps the not so fortunate in difficult times.
    Kind regards,
    Punit Patel

@@TOMVUTHEPIMP You are saying that God who gave us all the required things equally like air, is to blame for our laziness and selfishness. You know one of the top teachings from our lord Jesus Christ is to love our brothers like we love ourselves and he showed us how much he loves us on the cross. So, how come this God is to be blamed for our greediness and selfishness. I really hope u will find your way to God one day and understand this. Love from an Orthodox Christian.

@@bestmoviescenes5073 Why your God allow so much pain, suffering and misery? Maybe cause he dont exist or sucks at his job?

@@TOMVUTHEPIMP Im sure u dont believe that nothing created everything bs, right? And do u think the creator of this well balanced and everything on purpose universe sucks at his job? I dont think so. Jesus died on the cross, so we can live with him after death, not because he want us to live in wealth in this world. And he taught us how to earn that by following the ten commandments. If everyone of us live by those rules we could live a happy and peaceful life on this universe too. Unfortunately, we dont. So all this suffering and pain is happening because of our doings not Gods fault.

I love the design, it's very efficient.
However, if the homeless person was not able to leave the shelter in place, but needed to cart the shelter, then perhaps an A-frame type of of shelter might be easier to cart around? Something that could be folded up and carted away easily. I'm curious what size holes there are for fresh air? Or maybe where the foam attaches gives enough fresh air?
Maybe there is an insulation that is just as good that could be compressed when not in use? Perhaps a shelter could be more portable with that type of insulation if it exists. I love the idea of heating a small shelter with your body heat. A body gives off about 100 watts of heat energy when at rest. This fact is compensated for when designing AC load capacity for buildings with lots of people.

I did some research. Here is a video of the shelter in use. It does fold in the top of the roof. So I take back my idea of an A-frame, this design is the best. You can also see lots of places where light comes in, so the shelter does get plenty of fresh air.

Aluminum tape...$10.00 = $30.00 per coffin. So he profits $9970.00 per igloo coffin? Such a hero for humanity hu? Pffff...

Not so fast. Stop and think. Where are the vents and what is their flow rate in still and breeze conditions? Let's see the numbers. Without vents, single wall tents usually become soakers insider. And vents allow heat to be removed as well as CO2 and admit oxygen replacement. Venting is a precise thing and necessary for all single wall small tents. A good idea but we need more details which I'm sure you'll want to include, being an engineer.
