Beautiful ship! Heartfelt congratulations to the PLAN. May she always sail in Peace, and I pray for peace between our countries forever. I myself sailed in USS Arkansas (CGN-41) as a qualified Nuclear Power Operator, which escorted USS Nimitz (CVN-68) on our patrols together in the early 1980s. I wish to her crew Fair Winds and following Seas forever, and may she always sail in Peace.
Brilliant news! Can’t wait to see the new stealth fighters launch from the Fujian! 🎉

Excellent vessel. The PLA Navy is very rapidly increasing its complement of modern, effective vessels (which might be a "problem" for belligerent states)
What it lacks is quality in the crew.
The belligerent state being China. That's okay this deathtrap is still a decade away from deployment.

Also the average GDP of each Chinese citizen is growing at a much slower rate, while the GDP of its Indian counterpart is growing dramatically.

Can you make a video about the upcoming type 004?
@jfbaro2
We don't know enough about it yet besides that it's probably already under construction and will basically be a type 003 only nuclear powered instead.
They may build multiple of the model but we don't know if that will be sequentially or at the same time.
Will most likely be launched between 2026 and 2028ish or thereabouts.

DC power fly use as energy storage
Emal uses a lot of electric load to launch. GERRAD R Ford is nuclear powered. Fujian is conventionally powered. Let's see the outcome of the trial. Will be a good comparison and lessons to learn for all navies.
all the power needed for the whole ship's systems been calculated, all they need is generators to supply electricity... and that can also be calculated
Energy for launching aircraft is easier stored with EM cats than with steam cats.
I understand PLAN is using DC electricity while USN uses AC - which is more efficient, when you can use it.
EM cats on both Fujian and Ford use flywheels to store energy, the carrier power generators don't power it directly. There were rumors that China was using super caps but some admiral said - no. too many problems with seawater, etc.
Also apparently China is using something similar to their maglev, so they have a crapton of practical experience on this.
But it will be interesting if they have the same issues as the Ford - but I'm sure they read over every single incidence report on what happened badly with the Ford carrier when it pushed out to sea, and there was a lot of issues with EMALs.
CVN in the USN means it is NUCLEAR....since the USS Enterprise the US "super carriers" have been......the early ones had 8 reactors but newer versions have just two large ones
i still using Fujian Carrier in Modern Warships
I actually genuinely agree with you.
Question: Is there a plan to put the J-20 on this carrier? I have seen a few articles claim this, but I've never seen anything official.
no.they have designed a new type named j-35 for the navy. and it is testing and training in the desert at northwestern of china.
@Saffi____
They'll use the J-35 which hasn't entered mass production yet but is nearing the end of it's development.
For the first 3-5 years or so of it's deployment they'll probably rely on
J-15s mainly as a stopgap measure.
j20 is too big and heavy for CV

I haven't watched the videos recently, but as I had stressed in the past, explicit attention should be given to drone technology and 'Close-In-Weapon-Systems' perimeter defense as demonstrated by increasingly massed surface drone deployment in the Black Sea and respective attrition upon the Russian Black Sea Fleet - including modern patrol boats.
CWIS guns are usually locked to RADAR signals - the Slava-Class Moskva cruiser was struck without combat stations like the S-300 redied - manned auto-cannons or machine guns can be overwhelmed, especially when anthropologically researched evasive maneuver algorithms coordinate a swarm of drones.
It is not a novel problem, considering confrontations with coastal torpedo boats, but one can loose sight when marveling e.g. at over-the-horizon ground attack capabilities...
In San Diego where the navy base is, there are signs warning photographs are illegal so what China is doing is not unusual
Does anyone know how far along the 4th carrier is?
apparently they have started construction already, tho it is still early days. An Australian tabloid reported in 2018 that the Chinese had started cutting steel for the 04 in 2017. The PLAN has stated they expect to have it launched sometime in the 2020's and foresee a fleet of at least 4 of them. Be interesting to see.
@@gumpyoldbugger6944 thank you. I suspect that it will be conventional as the 5th and 6th are also entering the ramp of construction. They need the 4th quickly, so the 5th and 6th will give time to perfect the nuclear engine as my guest.
@@timothychung4811 maybe, we shall see. Either way, it's a hell of an accomplishment for the PLAN to go from having zero carriers to having three with a fourth under construction in under 12 years.
Looking better than UK aircraft carrier!
You can buy hires satellite images.
Covert Cabal does this all the time analysing Russian tanks.
Shanghai normal international airport? Did you meant Pudong or Hongqiao?
Pudong, he mixed it up with the word pu tong for normal
Yes Normal is 普通 whereas Pudong is 浦东 (Eastward of the Huangpu River)
Western civil and military satellites also take shoots with very high resolutions. The solution consists in docking the naval ships in hangars, no matter they're in construction or for maintenance or upgrade.
Satellite imagery resolution is inversely related to orbiting height, and by extension the time each satellite can spend over the object of interest. Factors like weather conditions and cloud cover can also impact on satellite image reliability. There's also obviously the limitation to a top down view. So, private photography still adds to the potential pool of information not fully available to satellites.
Qutie frankly i em curious how big the fleet will be.
And it will rival other powers.
The PLA Navy already has 56 more ships than the US Navy and is already the largest navy and there is no signs they will be stopping at these numbers ! China commissions more warships in one day than the US Navy in an entire year back in 2022 ! th-cam.com/video/bdSu_xf-O84/w-d-xo.html

I dont see how building a supercarrier makes sense in this age. Extremely costly to maintain, hard to defend. Could have built dozens of frigates or submarimes to patrol vast coastline for the cost or maybe smaller carriers.
We don't know if carriers still have a high value in combat anymore. Some argue that they do, others argue that they don't. It's obvious that warfare is changing and the vulnerability and defendability of these large assets is not yet tested in modern circumstances. That being said, the value of a well-protected carrier in peacetime has been demonstrated over and over again. There are few things more intimidating to a weaker country (or comforting to an ally) than a visit from a carrier group. It was the sailing through the Taiwan straits in 1997 of three U.S. carrier groups that galvanized the Chinese determination to develop its ADA2 strategy and to build its own world-class navy.
Only children do multiple choice questions
The answer is simple-- because China is building “supercarrier ” and “dozens of frigates or submarimes” at the same time

It’s not duplicating U.S. carrier designs. There’s literally one way to build a CATOBAR carrier, and those design elements were all initially designed by the British. The only other country that builds CATOBAR carriers is France, and they follow the same design principles too.

Still a long way before a serious contender to the dominance US Fleets
I am pretty sure the Chinese know this that is why they are slowing building up their Carrier Fleet. A long journey is accomplished with one step at a time.......
but well on its way tho......given how quickly they went from the 01 to the 03, I doubt it will take them long to produce a carrier that is comparable to the US's Ford class, including nuclear propulsion.
The PLAN is going about it in a smart way, incremental development steps and putting what they learned to improve their next design.
Once they come up with a nuclear powered super powered carrier design, most likely the upcoming 04 and if not her then by the 05, they will be able to produce them in short order given their ship building infrastructure and be able to match or even exceed the USN in hulls within 20 years or less IMHO.
@@gumpyoldbugger6944 Det Norske Veritas recently approved the design of the large container ship powered by a molten salt nuclear reactor. Such reactors work at a much higher temperature and are therefore more efficient and smaller that the PWRs used by USN. I expect 004 to be powered by a pair of these reactors.
Given how quickly they can make these ships though it won't be 20 years before they surpassed the American military by leaps and bounds anybody who disagrees with that is in my opinion coping. America is in a state of decline right now in China is going to be the next world superpower

The combat capability of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) amounts to just a third of what it appears on the surface. Despite China’s continuous modernization of its military arsenal, including aircraft carriers, stealth fighters, and destroyers, inherent issues such as formalism, internal corruption, and a lack of actual combat experience within the PLA significantly hinder the enhancement of its combat capabilities. In intelligence community parlance, this means it can watch fujian and any targets on a near-24/7 basis without blinking.
Satellite images vary in frequency, reliability and fidelity. Low orbiting satellites can take relatively high quality images but the time overhead will be less, reducing update frequency. High orbiting satellites are more available but image quality is low. This is to say nothing of the reliability issues posed by periods of heavy cloud, the limitation to top-down view for images, the inability to see detailed changes over time etc etc. Have a think about these things.
