    Beautiful ship! Heartfelt congratulations to the PLAN. May she always sail in Peace, and I pray for peace between our countries forever. I myself sailed in USS Arkansas (CGN-41) as a qualified Nuclear Power Operator, which escorted USS Nimitz (CVN-68) on our patrols together in the early 1980s. I wish to her crew Fair Winds and following Seas forever, and may she always sail in Peace.

    • @RichardsMiscCorner
      @RichardsMiscCorner 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      EM cats on both Fujian and Ford use flywheels to store energy, the carrier power generators don't power it directly. There were rumors that China was using super caps but some admiral said - no. too many problems with seawater, etc.
      Also apparently China is using something similar to their maglev, so they have a crapton of practical experience on this.
      But it will be interesting if they have the same issues as the Ford - but I'm sure they read over every single incidence report on what happened badly with the Ford carrier when it pushed out to sea, and there was a lot of issues with EMALs.

    I haven't watched the videos recently, but as I had stressed in the past, explicit attention should be given to drone technology and 'Close-In-Weapon-Systems' perimeter defense as demonstrated by increasingly massed surface drone deployment in the Black Sea and respective attrition upon the Russian Black Sea Fleet - including modern patrol boats.
    CWIS guns are usually locked to RADAR signals - the Slava-Class Moskva cruiser was struck without combat stations like the S-300 redied - manned auto-cannons or machine guns can be overwhelmed, especially when anthropologically researched evasive maneuver algorithms coordinate a swarm of drones.
    It is not a novel problem, considering confrontations with coastal torpedo boats, but one can loose sight when marveling e.g. at over-the-horizon ground attack capabilities...

      Satellite imagery resolution is inversely related to orbiting height, and by extension the time each satellite can spend over the object of interest. Factors like weather conditions and cloud cover can also impact on satellite image reliability. There's also obviously the limitation to a top down view. So, private photography still adds to the potential pool of information not fully available to satellites.

    I dont see how building a supercarrier makes sense in this age. Extremely costly to maintain, hard to defend. Could have built dozens of frigates or submarimes to patrol vast coastline for the cost or maybe smaller carriers.

      We don't know if carriers still have a high value in combat anymore. Some argue that they do, others argue that they don't. It's obvious that warfare is changing and the vulnerability and defendability of these large assets is not yet tested in modern circumstances. That being said, the value of a well-protected carrier in peacetime has been demonstrated over and over again. There are few things more intimidating to a weaker country (or comforting to an ally) than a visit from a carrier group. It was the sailing through the Taiwan straits in 1997 of three U.S. carrier groups that galvanized the Chinese determination to develop its ADA2 strategy and to build its own world-class navy.

      The PLAN is going about it in a smart way, incremental development steps and putting what they learned to improve their next design.
      Once they come up with a nuclear powered super powered carrier design, most likely the upcoming 04 and if not her then by the 05, they will be able to produce them in short order given their ship building infrastructure and be able to match or even exceed the USN in hulls within 20 years or less IMHO.

Despite China’s continuous modernization of its military arsenal, including aircraft carriers, stealth fighters, and destroyers, inherent issues such as formalism, internal corruption, and a lack of actual combat experience within the PLA significantly hinder the enhancement of its combat capabilities.
