  • Air to air exchanger or HRV overview, maintenance, and an explanation on how it works and why it's needed. In this video I explain a Venmar air to air exchanger (also known as ventilator, vanee, HRV, or ERV) and what needs to be done to it maintenance wise. One thing I forgot to mention is the drain hose. That should be checked periodically to make sure it is not getting plugged up.

    Jay, thank you for all your knowledge. I really enjoy your instruction approach to educating this subscriber; on an unrelated question, what can I expect from the HV person that will be coming to my home to inspect my AC unit (Train 4k, XB-13, Model # 2TTB3048A1000AA, Volts 200/230, HCFC __ 22, 8 lbs. 14oz or 4.03kg(SI), 10DegreesF suub cooling, MFR date 09/2008) for a 1720sqft home. This unit hasn't had any mechanical or electrical problems; I've cleaned the outside pump screening and washed down the pump itself, I opened the fan housing and vacuumed out all the dirt and dust in there--the fan turns very easy. However, it's been 11 years since we bought this house and I know mechanically it's time for some inspection and review of my cooling system. That being said, here are my questions: 1.) How can I tell if the tech giving me their advise is telling me the truth about my system? 2.) Should a trust worthy tech allow me to oversee what their doing during their inspection and calibration of Freon in the AC unit? 3.) The AC unit is not keeping up with the thermostat; that is, I set 78 degrees F and it continues running and doesn't get to anything but 81degrees F. I shut it off for a couple hours--deal with the heat-- and then it will start and get down to 78 degrees F. 4.) Is this condition an evaporator issue?
    Please reply at your leisure, thank you, Joseph

    Nice vid , just with the cartridge, some brands: definitely do not wash! As they are made of a paper, synthetic material that will be ruined.
    They are designed to also exchange humidity and not require condensate draining that other units do. Just remove dust with a dry brush

I've been busy taking care of Bigfoot he got worse last Thursday and I had to go to the vet and get some very strong medication for pain.. so I'm staying in were it's cool and trying to make the best of a very bad situation...it is rough stuff when some things are out of one's control... have a good day my friend god bless you and your family 🙏 praying for you all my friend..

      It has been hot in Minnesota too! Seems like the majority of states had higher temps this last week. I wonder how it was in Hawaii.. We accepted an offer on our house but now need to wait for the whole closing process to end before we can move.

      @@WordofAdviceTV I hope it works out for you Jay and everything goes smoothly in your move and selling..I hope and pray that it is a temporary thing with Bigfoot but I with the cancer and they way it is I know that it is the start to a very bad outcome of what is to come..I hate cancer it took my daddy he got lung cancer and it moved in his neck and he couldn't eat and lost his voice and he was in pure misery for the last three months it was too bad to say really..I took care of him and I don't think I slept maybe a hour or so at night for the last three months.. that was in 2011 and seems like yesterday. And now to top it off my dog Bigfoot has cancer and it is in his neck and my vet said if his congestive heart failure don't get him first then the cancer will and it looks like the cancer will... she said that he was a dog for the record book because he has had mass cell cancer for over year and half and she said that most dogs don't live over two or three months at the most with his cancer hopefully it will go back in remission... that is what I pray for... my dad had stage 4 lung cancer for 8 years and they gave him three months to live and he worked up till the last three months of his life he was a tough one and I guess ol bigfoot is too.. daddy thought a lot of Bigfoot and Arnold I had them a long time before he passed away.. thanks again buddy 👍 for your prayers for Bigfoot my friend I really appreciate it..

    • @WordofAdviceTV
      @WordofAdviceTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thankfully I never had to deal with cancer personally, the closest I have experienced it was my uncle who battled with it for a couple years as well. The last stage before his death really took it to the next level though. In a few months one could just see him slowly dying. It's a tough situation to be in.. The person going through it and his family who can't do anything about it.. So as much as I can, I sympathize with what you went and are going through David! I pray that the good Lord will lead you through this and give you peace of mind and the strength to go through it all. Hang in there my friend!

    Should have mentioned the theory behind it. Capturing the heat of the house air ( that you already paid to heat) and using it to heat the incoming outside cold air. How effecient is it?

    • @WordofAdviceTV
      @WordofAdviceTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, the heat recovery and efficiency of these units is something I forgot to cover.. Different units will vary in efficiency. Here's what MNSHI says about it: "Average sensible efficiencies for HRVs and ERVs are in the range of 68%-70%. High performance models can achieve sensible efficiencies in the range of 83%-84%. In cold climates, ventilating with HRVs and ERVs in the summer may actually increase cooling energy use slightly."

    glad I don't have one, just more maintenance I would have to do. BTW is this air exchanger the same thing I hear advertised on radio called EZ Breathe Ventilation System?

    • @WordofAdviceTV
      @WordofAdviceTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We don't have those here but as far as I know, that unit is a cheaper version that acts more as a filter and a dehumidifier than an air to air exchanger. From what I understood, it does not have an intake air supply from outside so they are not the same as the air to air exchangers that I showed in the video.

    Would there ever be a reason to remove an air exchanger? My home was build in 2000. I don't think it's necessarily "tight" anymore - with the windows/doors now older, cracking open windows frequently when cooking (even in winter), letting the dog in and out, plus just the overall shifting of the house the last 20 years? I'd like to gain the extra space the unit and its ducts are taking up along the basement ceiling.

      @@jbouchard667 ... Maybe I phrased it badly, but air exchanger is literally taking a sealed wall with thick insulation so quite low heat escape, and it adds a hole and a blower bringing in cold Minnesota air even if they try to warm it up via outgoing air being in contact thru many thin walls. By definition this is less efficient than a sealed wall. I forget was there at least a compressor , or was contact via thin walls it? I sorta think it's better to just have leaky walls to get the needed fresh air..
