I thank you very much for making a video regarding an overlooked monarch like Queen Anne. Not only was she the first monarch of a United Great Britain, but also the last reigning monarch of the Stuart dynasty. Good job with an excellent narration! 💝
Thank you so much for your kind words! 😊 She really is a very forgotten figure in British royalty, despite being the monarch who oversaw the union of Great Britain!
Excellent video. Can you also please do a video on Robert Walpole, the first Prime Minister of Great Britain and the only one to be sent to the Tower of London which led to every Prime Minister since living in No. 10 Downing St and was very active during the Glorious Revolution and Queen Anne’s reign.
She certainly could! I didn't actually realise how much resistance Anne had put up to things she didn't agree with, which was quite nice to find out, haha! She's always usually portrayed simply as quiet and shy.
I think Anne is one who looks incredibly consistent in every portrait! Even in her portrait as older, she looks considerably heavier and more tired, but the essence js the same!
She really does! Anne is very recognisable - I think it was Godfrey Kneller who did most of her portraits (and many of her family), and he just seems to have understood how to make it 'her' even when, as you say, she got older and heavier.
@@HistorysForgottenPeople Yes!! Just look at Henry VIII- true, the Holbein portraits of him are remarkably alike, but let’s face it Holbein was out of this world he was (and is) a painting marvel- his younger self looks utterly different from his adult or old self!
Thank you, that's very kind! I'm glad you enjoyed it. 😊 Anne really is a surprisingly unknown monarch, and the image of her is very skewed as a result.
@History's Forgotten People the people hear you! I really enjoy your voice, diction, and overall presentation style. Your approach is always very thoughtful and well organized. I watch a lot of history videos on YT, but yours have quickly become my favorite! I'm glad I chanced upon your channel. I'm definitely here to stay! 😊
Hi, awesome live history video I enjoyed it. How are you? I'm doing well. Your history videos are always enjoyable. Could you do next video Queen Jane Seymour. She was a queen in the Tudor times in the 16th century, . She was third wife of Henry the eighth. Have a great day see you next video greetings from Canada 😊
the right thing for William to do, after both Mary and Duke of Gloucester died, and learned that no matter what he does, Anne still his heir, was to abdicate the throne of England, return home, have a new wife and continue the main Orange line. What's even the point, remaining in a country which thinks of you as negatively as possible? while you also no longer hold the fierceness you once had? It's obvious how much both him and Anne were feeling so empty after all of these deaths in the family and knowing the dynasty is going to end
I agree, that probably would have been the best thing to do - but once someone has power, it's very hard for them to give it up. Going back to the Netherlands would have meant downgrading to being merely 'Statdholder' (kind of equivalent to a Duke, I believe) rather than being a king. It must have been very strange being a disliked king in a foreign land, though.
True, and William could have still ended up with the thrones of England and Scotland again because he was next in line after Anne, being her first cousin.
Yes, they would have been considered 'Stuarts', as they were descended from that royal line, although they would have carried their father's surname, I believe. 😊
@@HistorysForgottenPeople Ah, thank you for replying to my comment. I always assumed it would be like Mary I hypothetical children with Philip ii of Spain, where, they may have the Stuart bloodline but they have their father's surname.
I haven't read the less known ones, I admit, but Wuthering Heights is probably my favourite. I think there's probably the obvious, with the whole theme of women trying to force their own equality alongside men, but also I love the descriptions of the landscape, haha! Emily Bronte is also a very mysteriously forgotten person, as I believe her sister Charlotte wasn't exactly unbiased when she wrote about her, and I think Wuthering Heights is perhaps a link into how Emily thought and felt about things.
@@HistorysForgottenPeople It’s so funny that I asked History Calling this last Friday and she answered that she couldn’t read Wuthering Heights😭 I myself haven’t read it yet, but plan on it. In case you haven’t thought, I recommend Villette- it is so well written (I must admit Charlotte is my favourite hehe). Also, a video on Emily Brontë wouldn’t be a bad idea👀 (by now I have given you a decade worth of video ideas😭😭sorry)
LOL no worries, keep the ideas coming! It's much better than not having any. 😂 I definitely think a wee series on the Bronte sisters would be good. And thanks for the recommendation, I will definitely take a look at Villette when I get chance (which honestly, is probably in January when my MA is finished, haha)!
Good question! I think the difference is that civilians rise up against their government/monarchy in a revolution, but a civil war is fought by two or more factions against each other.
She was Queen Anne's infamous favourite, yes! A lot of the misinformation about Anne comes from Sarah's memoirs, so you can guess how it ended between them.
It's so strange, because William seems to have been otherwise quite measured about actions he took, but he completely collapsed socially and rubbed everyone else the wrong way. When it came to his behaviour with Anne though, it was incredibly petty! I think it's fairly telling that when he died, he wasn't widely mourned, and Anne was immediately popular.
@@HistorysForgottenPeople It’s so wonderful that you respond to comments but I just have to say that it’s not that strange considering he was fine with anyone who kept to their place but if a woman attempted to claim a position higher than him, his pride was too wounded for him to remain calm. I also heard that it was Willy 3 who “ordered/sanctioned ” the massacre at Glencoe as a way to punish and terrorize the Scottish clans. I don’t know if we have enough evidence to prove that to be true but it sounds totally plausible to me. PS: Love ❤️ your channel
@@HistorysForgottenPeople she betrayed her father so openly and with no remorse, a father which was warm and loving, despised catholicism, although both of her parents were of that religion and condemned her dinasty, she was also quite nasty to her successor, a bad woman all round, i dont believe in divine punishment, but in here, both sisters tragic faith seems quite fitting for their treasonous actions, bad actions have bad consequences, both of them condemn their dinasty

Queen Anne is "forgotten"?
This woman was a traitor .
In what way?
