So true Trent.. some advice for young guys out there... I'm 52 and I "ended up" in my job rather than targeted it... I'm a lead in an industry I'm not particularly interested in... it pays the bills, but man I'd rather be making movies or designing 3D props or characters, etc... I'm VERY busy up-skilling now... I don't believe in age as a barrier. Take heart... it's NEVER too late... but FOCUS, FOCUS, FOCUS!! Can't be stressed enough.. FOCUS! I'll see you at Light Box Expo in Sept - If anyone is going there.

I really appreciate your video. There is nothing better than a non toxic environment that allows you to focus on your goals. i think long term goals are really important and to keep in mind that it took years to be succesfull. if you cant make big steps take the little ones. if you want to much in an short amount of time it maybe destroys your longterm goals and you quit to reach your dreams. usually im not to much into commenting on youtube but you shared your thoughts. so a dialogue in which people could win from sharing those experiences are really what i`ve looking for. thanks and greetings from germany.

Thank you, This is the push I needed. I got in a slump for the last two years. I can't find the motivation to do anything. I have an exam tomorrow (in about 5 hours). I'm gonna fail. But, I'm gonna work on the project, I'm gonna show up and present my drawings and fail. And when I return from school I'm going to make a list, continue on the project and pass this exam next time. I want to improve, to get out of this state of mind. I binged your videos (instead of working). I will do better.

I don't know why people always says "pointing your flaws is really hard, you have to swallow your pride..." I don't know where you guys went to college, but, when I was in college, proffessors swiped the corridors with our egos, they absolutely destoyed it, so when I graduated, there was nothing else to say, I knew all the insults, all the names, all the mokings, all the cruel jokes, I knew what I was good at, and what were my flaws

    • @Curryfishballa
      @Curryfishballa 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Trent is at another level compared to RossDraws lol. RossDraws is pretty amateur in terms of knowledge. He's famous for his attractive artstyle only.

    • @TheNamelessGentleman
      @TheNamelessGentleman 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Kenneth Koo not entirely true - Rossdraws in terms of raw talent is close to if not on par with Trent. Yes he is mainly known for his flashy, attractive artstyle, but if you look at the few other things he has done for example his fantasy landscapes, you get a feeling for how versatile he actually is. I think Ross is one of the best at what he does - hence the amazing jobs he has landed. Trent definitely has more experience and he is just so insanely good at getting every single detail right, but only because Ross’ style is more simplistic, doesn’t mean he is particularly worse - i think they are both at the top of their game in their respective fields.

The idea of taking your faults and putting them into a list and trying to improve on them is actually an applicable idea/suggestion for pretty much anyone in any field of work. Applying it to myself, I always dread writing dialogue. I really should practice writing every day so that I don't dread it as much, but I usually put it off instead. I should really set aside a specific time of day for this and write every day. I had thought about doing a smaller, more story-driven project a while back but felt like there wasn't enough interest from my Patrons to validate the time expenditure, but considering that it would also help me to get over my fear of writing dialogue and develop my skill with it, then it might be worth pursuing just for those benefits alone, even if it's of no interest to anyone else.
I'm also very weak at presenting my ideas to concept artists, which can be very difficult without proper references. It's very challenging to have something in mind that you can't properly present to an artist. It's also a conundrum. Do I invest in a drawing tablet and the time required to learn to draw, when I'm way more interested in game development? I draw terrible with a mouse. Would a drawing tablet help a lot? I'm also considering acesprite. Together the investment would likely be $40 to $50, which isn't much money wise, but I'm hesitant to do so when I'm so uncertain of my motivation to pursue such a skillset.

in Blender theres a Modifier call "Displace" Which can help Creat some pretty Random Stuff. (Rocks,Paper, Anything that Looks Crumple-up)
Theres also Geometry-Nodes which in my personal opinion. is problably the best thing to Master at the moment. but its kinda hard to get into and Does Require lots of time to Learn.
Geo-nodes excels at Big and Open World Stuff. like Having Mountains Randomly Generate using a Texture. or Sandones. Snowbiomes. etc.
What Geonodes doesn't work very well (or require lots of Experience), is to make Simple Everyday Objects.
    As a Quick Tip/Note/Guide:
in the Modifiers tab (the Blue Wrench icon).
-Modify Section - Ignore it completely. it does Trickery to the 3D Model. very handy when you want Auto Smooth to work properly, or Other forms of Trickery that can Save time in terms of "Data" not building. (Uv-Unwrapping Copy Paste - Auto Shade Smooth Number Changer - Transfer Info from one Object to the other, etc).
Generate - Thats where you Spend most of your time if you plan to Model stuff:
    Most Useful ones.
Sub-D - Bevel (go to Profile - Custom - Move stuff inside the Graph it Depends on the # of Segments that the Bevel has).
Array (its a Duplicator, Learn Geonodes if you want to Put "Random" Numbers to do stuff (Scale.Rotate,Position,etc). -
Boolean (its like Scissors. it needs a Object(Paper) and a Cutter Object. TLDR: The object you want to be the Cutter (Scissors) needs to be one that DOESN"T have the Modifier., the Object (paper) needs to have a The Modifier. Bam. you are Set. the 3 Settings do Different things.)
Mirror - does what it says, Super Versatile.
Screw Modifier - use a Single Vertice, or a Curve. and see Magic Happen xD. (its easier to Control with Less Lines (vertice) on the Screen.)
Skin Modifier - great for making Trees. use a Single Vertice (Dor/Line), to see Great Results.
Deforms: is where Animation tends to be done. sometimes Modelers use them.
Simple Deform - (Simply Bends, Twist , Taper , Stretch. and Object. combine with an Empty or/and use a Hook for Finer Control. also Using Vertex Grpups can be use for even more Finer control but that is pretty Advance).
Hooks - (Great for Moving Objects. Gets Messy Really Fast.
Displace - (Generate a Mesh with a Texture. Recommend to Combine with Sub-D.
Armature - (Recommend if you plan to learn to Rig a Model with Bones)
Physics - its Dedication to learn.
i personal don't use it that often. but when i do it always gets the job done.
everything inside of it has its Niche Usage.
Ocean - as being the only "Plug and play" easy to use Ocean Generator.
For Artist that know 2D i whould personally Recommend Learning
Boolean - Screw - Skin - Simple Deform - Displace - Geonodes. - Wave - Ocean - Bevel (Learn the Advance Techniques not the Simple Smooth Bevel xD).
    Shape keys, Vertex Groups
Shape keys is more on the Animations. it Remembers the Object "Base" and Morphs it into a Shape of your Choosing.
Vertex Group is Kinda like Layers in Photoshop. it "Marks" a Vertice. Face.etc. , and Remembers it. you can use it in other Areas as Filters. some Popular ones are Mask (Like phoshop Mask), Vertext Paint (Pretty Advance stuff) , Wight Painting (Rigging Characters), etc.

Really nice use of Blender for your backdrop. Old me would painstaklingy draw the entire backdrop for hours. The thing is I separate things too much. I use Blender only for 3D modeling/rendering and draw/paint only in 2D when you can marry the tools to shape your creations altogether. There are no rules except what works for you, if it looks good, audience don't give a shit about your process.

For some reason you sound a lot like Peter B Parker. Isn't that strange? Haha, anyway, great advice man. Thank you.

We're a little team. Him as the teacher who can still do it, us as the students who can do it, just not as good. I'm proud of us!

Am I the only one who listens to your videos while I draw, and then look at your artwork when the video ends? XD

Heh, it's funny. I was just thinking to myself "What do I else do I need to do to improve myself?"
Honestly, in terms of just art skills I don't have anything I "need" to attain aside from just improving my hand-eye coordination to better get the results I want from head to hand. But a straight up technical skill I still need to wrap my brain around is 3D and 3D Sculpting. Do I know the basics? Yeah... but they look like turds. It's one of those things I just need to nut up and do.
That and presentation... really could work on that more. But the year is young!
Now back to this dragon I'm painting....

I wish I had motivation for when I started to draw that's why I think I struggle, if I could of had that extra push I probably would have been better.its hard to be motivated

Love the vids, this one was especially insightful. I know there’s no roadmap for art, but you made it sound like there’s a good roadmap to make roadmaps. Btw, I still can’t pronounce your name so I’ve gone with just making something up every time you drop a new vid and I’m so excited. Examples being “Awesome, a new Trent Kukamanga!” “Sweet, a new Trent Kowabunga!” “Yay a new Trent Futurama!” Keep on keeping on man, I will be using your gum road soon.
