A common argument against the accuracy of the Bible and its characters is "Science has disproven the Bible." However there is a science that has continually confirmed Biblical history over and over again. The field of Archeology which seeks to uncover the mysteries of the past and confirm the known record continues to unearth evidence of people, cultures and events from the Bible. In this lesson Michael walks through the discovery of the Ipuwer Papyrus and its striking similarity to the events of the book of Exodus.
The Ipuwer Papyrus seems to be an eye witness account from an Egyptian poet of several catastrophes that struck Egypt which mirror the widely known ten plagues of Egypt from the Bible. Using clues from scripture (1st Kings 6:1) we can approximate the date of the Exodus around 1440 BC which matches the approximate date of the papyrus (a large number of scholars place it around 1440 BC while others approximate it in ranges from 1290 to 1550 BC). What's your objection? From what I've read from naysayers, their argument is disputing the timing of the event and the dating of the document, which seems close enough to me.

I think God will always leave just enough doubt for doubters to hold onto and enough for believers to grow in faith.
A lot of Christianity is always about proving one over the other. The problem is that people get blinded and caught up in all that without realizing the fundamentally important issue of growing a relationship with Jesus.
I don't care about a lot of questions. All I know is that Jesus changed my life and has shown me how to grow. Let Jesus be your guide in life. Walk in his path. He will give you all the answers.
I do appreciate this content because it may change doubters. But for those of us who already have faith, we already know the answer and his name is Jesus.

IT also makes no sense for the Exodus to have 100 percent proof, besides for the fact that the Egyptians (and most peoples) never admit defeat in their propaganda, why would God want there to be no doubt? Then it wouldn't take much faith

When Velikovsky proposed all this in Ages In Chaos in 1952, he was dismissed as a crank or a nut case. He devotes many pages to Ipuwer's Papyrus.
It has always impressed me of how historians have taken oral traditions, such as the Native Americans or tribal Africans have passed down, but have refused to give any credence to the written record of the bible. Certainly it is possible that Biblical stories have been embellished in the telling, particularly by people who did not understand fully what they were seeing, but it is bigoted and a corruption of history to discount the Bible as a historical source.
It’s discounted because of the lack of corroboration, if not outright contradiction by other sources. The Bible is not a history book.

Historians are well aware of the origins of mythology as well as the evidence for actual history that corroborates that theory.

Did you check any refuting evidence? The dating of the papyrus and when the presenter says the exodus happened are centuries apart. Check for yourself.
@@johnelliott5859 The heritage dating was based on conjecture, and had to be revised inside the last decades once a solid chronology was established: the original dating lacked cross-referencing in external records. Bink Hallum and Irving Finkel are making amazing progress now the ability to read cuneiform has been broken, the knowledge of the roots of the Greeks and Hittites is leaping ahead: Homer's characters are being identified on a non-legendary basis. I'd leave it ten years or so to settle authoritatively, but we already know from the Amarna Letters (Akhenaten's diplomatic correspondence with Hatusi used as filling for the Karnak Pylons in an attempt to destroy all trace of the apostate Pharaoh, but had the opposite effect, preserving the details) that the Biblical record passed by word of mouth over 800 years before being finally written down in the Babylonian exile, whilst not perfect, isn't a complete fabulation either.
Now we have a complete chronology of Egyptian rulers, it becomes very clear that Yuye and Joseph are the only vizier of Habiru origins. The Habiru do indeed appear as a nomadic group of tribes from the general direction of Ur, and are seen as opportunists and thieves. In the period at the end of the 18th Dynasty, a power vacuum appeared in the Levant, as the Sea Peoples moved in to occupy Philestinia, and were then challenged by the Habiru: neither the Hittites nor Egyptians nor Mittani were powerful enough to restake their heritage claims.
One thing to be aware of is that there may not be a direct temporal connection in biblical terms as indicated: it is in the nature of verbal heritage that false connections are made, for example in the AD-CE change again rooted in external data. We know when and why Quirinius held his census, after Herod Archelaus brought an end to the Nabatean dynasty, through sheer incompetence: just as William the Conqueror had to in the Doomsday Book. He needed to know what he was in charge of, exactly.
That also meant the House of Judah had a once in several lifetimes opportunity to stake a claim to temporal rule, and that's exactly what Jesus does in his d'var torah, the theological presentation in his bar mizvah, which ends up with him disappearing into the priestly crowd as he'd just put a very interesting cat among the pigeons. From that we can count back to his birth 12-13 years earlier, in 6-7 BCE, picking up another discrepancy along the way: Herod the Great died in 4 BCE, so Jesus had to have been born before then. The cause of the discrepancy's been found, but redating everything was too much hassle, we've opted for an arbitrary Year Zero instead. The finishing touch was in the Chinese chronologies, which report a supernova in July of 7 BCE, and that finally proves my point: the traditional Christmas is simply a rebranded Saturnalia. In turn, it's opened the door to an attempt to simplify Easter: the issue here is that we don't know which year the crucifixion happened in, which would give us the Passover date.
Now, if you're the kind of fundamentalist who argues not a thing can be questioned, our paths diverge, because the early versions of the Gospel of Mark confirm a gloss was added several hundred years later to align the Gospel texts. In my personal case, I have huge issues with the very basis, on the grounds of Matthew 6-7, which are heavily anti-ecclesiastic, emphasising the personal nature of the relationship with the numinous, not the corporate dogma with the Book.

Interesting that Amentoheb had a daughter named Hatshepsut (who was the Biblical "daughter of Pharao" who saved a Hebrew baby who was one of the Hebrew babies which her father had commanded to be thrown into the river Nile, brought him into the palace, had him educated him there, AND made the Pharao pay for it !) Her son was Thutmose III who was the Pharao during The Exodus
@@NECHOII Makes sense that Hatshepsut's father was Thutmose l bcse if her/Hatshepsut's son was Thutmose III and her husband/half brother was Thutmose II, then it stands to reason that her father was Thutmose I (and her grandfather was Amenhotep). Thank you.
I think your conclusions are logical. Thutmose III would meet the criteria. His father’s first son didn’t rise up, and his sisters name was listed as similar to “Bithiah”. (coincidentally, I was with a woman for 6 years named Bethia after her.)
You have to be careful Thutmose III is one the most powerful Pharaoh of Egypt. I think what we seeing is combing of two Egyptian Pharaoh. Because what see is that Thutomose IV which is his grandson is that he dies between 25 and 27 years of age. His body is really skinny like he is totally stress out. The kingdom falls apart, Egypt loses all it lands in modern day levant or Israel and Syria. Also his successor Amohotep III is not his first born son.
I fear that doesn't fit with the records. But as David Rohl states in his book "A Test of Time", the exodus might have happened at the end of the middle empire of egypt. He gives a citing of the egyptian priest Manetho, given by Josephus Flavius, about the reign of a certain Pharao when a big downfall took place because god or the gods became angry.
Actually, I just saw a video by 'Expedition Bible' who explained who the Pharoah was during the time of Exodus.
The ruler during the time of Exodus was Thutmose II.

When you read about “silver and gold” you have to know something about the time of Egypt when the Israelites were there. The tops of the pyramids were covered in silver…NOT because they wanted the cheaper option like we would think today but because SILVER was by far more valuable than gold during this period of history. Gold was thought of as a less interesting metal because it was too malleable and it was in greater abundance at that time than silver (which is harder to process). So the gifting of silver to Israel meant that Egypt was parting with their most valuable items. Lapsis and silver…the king had to authorize this for this transfer of wealth to take place…that’s how valuable silver was.

@@johnelliott5859 archeological evidence for the exodus is numerous and irrefutable. Researchers have discovered remains of alters, the rock at Horeb, the real mt. Sinai with its burnt rocks, the red sea crossing including chariot remains, Elam with its palm trees 🌴, and stone carvings depicting jewish symbols, golden calf, among others.
The Word of YHWH is true. The stories were actual historical events!

There are a lot of lies being perpetrated against Israel that contributes to the conflict in the Middle East even to this day questioning that the Israelites are not indigenous to their land.

Excellent, thank you for bringing this up. The first time I learned about the Papyrus Ipuwer was when I was around 18 years old somewhere around 1988 when I read all the works of Dr Immanuel Velikovsky. The Ipuwer document is only the second witness to the colossal events around the ten plagues. The Veda Hymns also have a similar account and also some far east and some Mayan records. But the current accepted Egyptian time line is put of date or out of line with the Ipuwer accounts as per Velikovsky. Yet in his magnificent works he was able to synchronize it to the astonishment of safes and crudités alike. .apparently the events rhat triggered the ten plages were not local or regional events, but global and they were the result of cosmic worlds in collision that put all the ages of the world in chaos. There are things in there that most people are not prepared ro accept because it will steal their existential reality. .
If the plagues were global then every nation would have suffered but they didn't. They heard about Egypt's destruction. Rahab excepted God once she heard about it. That's why she saved the two spies and was rescued herself.

The fall of Jericho has been finally dated. Count 40 years backward to the Exodus to who was the Exodus pharoh and 80 years further back to know who was pharoh when Moses was born. I won't give dates but will leave that to you to do your own research online. Very mind blowing.

But here the thing we have a description of Joseph conquests of Judea in Amarna letters. Letters during the reign of King Akhenaten speak of tribe of Hamurabi Egyptian for "wanders tribes" invading the lavant (modern day Judea). If that is the case then a better case can me made for Thutmose IV being Pharoah of Egypt in the Exodus. There are also other indications of this. 1. We know King Thutmose IV (1397 - 1388 BC) dies at around 25 to 27 years of age (we have his mummified body) but we don't know from what. Also his body is very skinny like he is totally stress out (this could be indications of stress from the plagues of God). We know that the kingdom of Egypt after his reign totally collapses in the "levant" or modern day Judea and the Pharaoh that comes after him is Amenhotep III who is not his first born son.
"Finally dated"? Please provide your source. Last I read, the "date" was still debated, hovering between 1500-1400, better than Kenyon, but still unsure since C14 is unreliable in that area.
1440 BC Exodus is being calculated using 1 Ki 6:1 480 'regnal' years to Solomon's Temple.
With rulership by Philistines included, after the Exodus to 4th yr. of Solomon's Temple you get +606 yrs. or 1573 BC for the Exodus, during the time of the Hyksos.

Tut dad Akenarten's writings are used in the Bible with the odd name change here and there but most of the stories come from his own poems. so he also could have been influenced seen as he was the first to worship monotheism the worship of one god

3 million people heard God speak on Sinai, an amount that can be derived from the census in the book of Numbers . Aside from the documented account in the Torah, Pentateuch, Bible, et al, and of equal import, these same accounts were passed down through generations by oral tradition of these 3 million people. The ability to maintain a conspiracy is inversely proportional to the amount of people involved. With 3 million people involved in this mass revelation, it is astronomically impossible for Exodus 19 to not be true.

One timeframe complication is that OT years were possibly 360 days, and numbers were often symbolic in any case.
Although the extant copy of the papyrus is dated corresponding with the Exodus, an online search suggests it’s origins are earlier. Wish someone would explain that. Was the Exodus info added later?

Impuwer sounds as if he knew about some of the plagues but not all, and some of the details and plagues were left out. So maybe he heard about it but wasn't actually there at the time. As in today there is a lot of second hand news and people copying one another. You could go as far as saying he is another source but, nothing beats the scripture for the whole story. That's good enough for me.

Recently I read that the mummy of Amenhotep 2 shows signs of damage consistent with a body that would have endured the plagues.
That is because Amenhotep II WAS the pharoah of the exodus, not Ramses, as Hollywood promotes.
This is very well-stated and proven by Bruce W Gore in his book, "Historical and Chronological Context of the Bible".
The fact that gold and silver and precious stones were given to the 'slaves' is especially interesting considering that, in the papyrus, it states that all the grain and fruit had been destroyed and Egypt was in ruins. Seems strange, without divine inspiration, that the Egyptians would give up their jewels and metals used to buy food and supplies when all of their grown food had just been destroyed and their Empire was in ruin. The only way that the Egyptians would have given these riches, even though they had been decimated, would be if God inspired them to do it. A normal person in a survival state of mind would not give up their 'money' if all their food had been destroyed. They would save the money to spend on food, but God stepped in and compelled the Egyptians to give up the only things they had left. This basically destroyed Egypt and they would have realized afterwards that the Israelite God had done this and would have been proof that God was with them, not only to the Egyptians but to the Israelites themselves and anyone else hearing the story.

The widespread assumption that Rameses was pharaoh as of the Exodus is and always was completely baseless. I feel that there is one and only one way in which the Biblical sequence of events makes sense: the Hebrews arrived in Egypt while the Hyksos ruled the Nile Delta and were intensely persecuted after the 18th Dynasty reconquered the north.
The papyrus dates around 1400 BCE, but the story dates to 1800 BCE or earlier. Could be why they think it's a political poetic plea for a pharaoh to restore order.
I am an Orthodox Christian and I say the judgements of God are a deep abyss tha NO man can Fathom. God is good and His decisions to discipline and to permit what we think is bad are all perfect. What is good to men is often an abomination to God. God must permit bad so that we, mankind, must develop into truly ascetic and good people or we can't have etetnal life. Death ends evil and if people with a bad will get to be immortal and free, then evil does not end. Free will provides the true test of goodness anf faith for all. Real people of faith need to think about that. As an analogy, a self centered child thinks eating ten bars of chocolates is the ultimate good while a responsible parent could hide the chocolates and only give the child only one piece a week. The parent is doing an objective good but the small minded chikd will look at this as punishment.

Wow, for one thing the Egyptian timeline has been validated by its correspondence with nation’s records Assyrian, Babylonian, Nubian, Greek, etc. the records may not agree to what degree a nation won or lost a war but we can at least verify the fact that there was a war. A lot of stories of the Bible were only recorded in the Bible and maybe other related text; Koran, old New Testament.
This is simply proven to be false time and time again, yet you “skeptics” never go back and admit your entire worldview is based on hating GOD and doing anything possible to cast doubt on the accuracy of the Bible. Hittites for example, are exactly what you people do repeatedly…yet every time the Bible is corroborated by some pagan analog, you just move on and don’t even comment.

Actually the exodus took place during the old kingdom period. The dynasties being the lower numbers 4,5 6, 7 ish.
These dynasties overlapped.
The middle kingdom was mainly the period of the Hyksos or shepherd kings which entered Egypt after the destruction of Egypt due to the plagues. The Ipuwer papyrus was therefore in the old kingdom period-15th century BC. contemporary with the old kingdom. Saul was around 1092-52 BC, while David was 1052-12 and Solomon around 1012-972BC. The division of the kingdom around 972BC till it's captivity 721-18 BC, Judah's Babylonian captivity was around 600BC.

Simple test to determine if a pharaoh was the pharaoh of the Exodus. If you have the mummy, THAT was not the pharaoh who enslaved the Israelites. Recall that the pharaoh that Moses confronted drowned in the sea with his army. According to the inscription on the shrine at el-Arish, the pharaoh that drowned in the whirlpool was Tau Thom. Manetho records him as Tutimaeus or Timaios, in whose days the "blast of heavenly displeasure" fell on Egypt. He forced the Israelites to build one of his cities, Pi-Thom, the dwelling place of Thom.
By the way, the pharaoh that looted the temple was Thutmose III. He recorded the loot he took back to Egypt at Karnak. The loot from the Temple is drawn in great detail on the walls there. Thutmose III, a nephew? of Queen Hatshepsut, (the Queen who visited Solomon), likely traveled with Hatshepsut when she traveled to Israel and witnessed the wealth there. Hatshepsut recorded her visit to Solomon in the temple she built when she returned to Egypt. Her Vizer also recorded the gifts she took to Solomon, and the gifts she returned with. Both lists are identical to the lists in the Bible. Her sister, Nefrubity, also a daughter of Thutmose I, married Solomon. Her name is not given in the Bible.
The problem overall is that the entire dating scheme for Egypt is about 600 to 800 years wrong (too early). It is so entrenched in the books and publications it is not likely it will ever be corrected.
Your chronology is totally off.
David Rohl, in "A Test of Time" suggests, supported by archeological finds in egypt, that the egyptian history is misdated by roughly 300 years. So the exodus could have happened at the end of the second egyptian empire. And he gives more clues to this topic.
