    -------------------------------------
    French Seams with a post bed sewing machine
    For this demonstration I am using an industrial, post bed, double needle, model 268-FA-373 Durkopp&Adler sewing machine.
    Two 160=23 needle size and a 138 size thread are used for the 6 mm long line of stitches. A spring loaded center guide presser feet is useful to make the double line of stitches at a distance of 10 mm between. The materials I am using are 2 way stretch automotive vinyl, 10mm thick foam medium density for the channels, a 4 mm thick headliner material, muslin for the backing of foamed panel, a thin vinyl for the binding piece placed on the reverse side to make the double stitches on top.
    Lately if talking of car seats and furniture the French Seams are in fashion being included in sofa cushions, car seat covers, headrests, consoles, etc. As we can see in this rough sample, I have used it to join the edges of a car seat bolster, besides to shape the five channels on the main foamed panel.
    I hope you enjoy the video and find some tips useful and lots of inspiration to perform your own upholstery projects!
    Cesar

    People seem to forget that exposed stitching frays and sometimes tears.
    That's one reason welting is used. Also the more top stitching the more you are inviting tearing and separation of the material.

    Would you change anything if you bought a new post bed sewing machine such as ,Needle spacing, post height, Evan a different model. Is this a large bobbin machine? Trying hard to figure out the best and most reliable post bed sewing machine to purchase. Your very much appreciated. Thanks Ed.

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      For car upholstery, most of the post bed double needle sewing machines are set up to 1/2" if an inch to 10 mm wide between needles. It is mostly used for french seams/double stitches in seat covers, consoles, dashboards, etc.The set up involves the cube that holds the needles, the needle plate, feed dog and presser feet.
      As the posts are removable they are set up to the mentioned distances in the lines above.
      In other words if you require a special distance between the twin needles it will be necessary to change the complete kit.

    Hey there!
    I'm still sorta new to the channel but first off id like to say that you are beyond "professional" and your work deserves the "legendary" title!
    If i may ask my main question however is this, I see that your using a post bed machine, i personally own a cylinder arm. Which i thought would be best for most of my work because it includes wallets and bag manufacturing. But i now am seeing not only upholstery makers use post beds, but shoe makers and even bag makers as well.
    *_Essentially do you see any benefit to having a cylinder arm to a post bed?_* Im sure a post bed can get into tricky and tight corners but i have heard post beds are more for lighter work as in thin materials. *_What is the thickest thread or needle available to you with your machine?_*
    Sorry for the long drawn out question. I really appreciate your work its a very informative and helps all types of craftsman. Thank you and hope this year brings you great enjoyment!

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Post bed sewing machines (one or twoo needles) are used in the automotive industry and furniture, as you said, to get into tight corners. That is the case of headrests, seat bolsters, sofa cushions, etc. It makes the sewing process easier.
      Of course, this process can also be done with a flat or cylinder bed sewing machine, but with some limitations.
      The most basic sewing machine to do upholstery is a flat bed sewing machine. I see a benefit to have a cylinder bed sewing machine, because if you have added an extra wood table you would have two sewing machines in one. You could do regular upholstery, besides the making of bags which are kinda difficult to perform on a flat bed machine.
      The old machine I show in this video is heavy duty and can sew with thick threads 138, 207, 277 and with needles size 140=22, 160=23, 180=24

    Thanks for the great videos you produce as they have help me tremendously in my Upholstery shop as well.May I ask what the needle spacing is on your post bed machine as well as the thread size you are using ? Thanks again !

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The spacing between twin needles is 10 mm. I wanted this distance as a standard measure. It could be 1/2" of an inch or less, but this process involves the changing of a complete kit that includes the cubes to hold the needles, new presser feet, and new needle plate. And above all a new timing. Really a confusion!
      If a car trimmer would want different widths between needles, it would be advisable the use of different machines set up to each measure.
      I have used polyester thread size 138 on the upper tensions and bobbins below.

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's been set up at a distance of 10 mm. This measure can be changed wider or narrower, but implies the changing of presser feet, little cube that holds the needles, needle plate, and feed dog. The two posts/beds can be moved to a wider or narrower position.
