I’m hoping to go to my first furry con in October due to the fact that a small one is happening in my town (which means I won’t have to worry about hotels or anything). I already know that I won’t be able to go with anyone because I will begin University in September and there’s no way I will be able to befriend a furry to go with me in just a single month so I’ve already been planning to just go alone. Therefore, videos like this are incredibly useful for me. Thanks Zee

lol, yes, most shades are a cool tone while zee's (and the one suiter to the far left) is super warm by comparison. i know that zee's primary purple is a relatively new shade that was pretty new at the time i commissioned her - so not many makers may have known about it. i definitely see it in use more now at cons. but ya, still kinda fresh lol
Hey, Zee. This is Mason from Cornerstone RailFanimation Entertainment (C.R.F.E.), and I wanted to give a big thanks to you, Gale Frostbane, Aurora Bloom, Mark's Barks and other furries out there for helping people like me know more about the fandom a lot more. Your tips, I believe, are very helpful and (while I am a Christian, railfan, and animator) I'm also a travel blogger as well. I attended my first convention (which was a LEGO convention though at the Agricenter International in Memphis) in 2023, but I have wondered what it would be like going to an actual furry convention. I hope I get to meet you and other furries out there one day. I hope you stay safe out there and pray for the best, Zee.
(I think my wifi deleted my other comment so rewriting xD) Thank you for the tips! Personally, with the social anxiety mental disorder, my key tips to enjoying cons are a bit different. You mentioned you don't want to stress out, and for S.A.D I would really recommend focusing on the panels/events instead of socializing. To others with SAD: No, it's not a failure if you don't make any new friends or connections. Sometimes, being delved into unfamiliar social situations can incite a panic attack or just a multitude of horrible physical reactions if you get too stressed about it, so its totally valid and you are not "failing" if you aren't there to make new friends or "push yourself", pushing yourself doesn't always work, I know that I need to do things in moderation and If I don't enjoy things the way I want to then I am putting a lot of stress on my body. So, my top tips for people with SAD going to conventions alone: 1) Don't shame yourself, don't beat yourself up for being nervous or shy or not trying. It's okay. It's hard, it's a mental disorder for a reason, and all advice won't work for you, we just have to take it a little slower. 2.) Take a mask! This helps me a lot personally. 3.) Fill your day plans with locations and events to visit! 4.) Keep in touch with online support friends (if an option) during the con and let them know how its going. 5.) Be proud of yourself for going! It takes so much effort to go to these big social events and despite how much your brain was pushing back on you, you went. Awesome job! 6.) Check our vrchat cons if you can't visit real-life cons! This is my main option because I live in a rural area and my friends are also online. You don't need a vr headset to enjoy yourself - vrchat can be stressful asf though, so don't push yourself too much with that either.
"The magic isnt as important as my health" Is a BIG one. I'd like for people to just know my character and not me, but I also have diabetes and overheat / dehydrate much faster (out of fursuit) than normal. So, if I have to take my head off in the middle of a convention to drink water or get a blast of AC and fresh air, Im going to. Im not aiming to be as popular as Telephone or anyone as a fursuiter, Im just aiming for a good time and not to pass out. edit: this is also a good reason why you should NOT tease someone for "poodling" (showing skin like with a t-shirt on). Again, diabetic, sometimes I just need air hitting my skin to try and help keep me cooled down cause heat stroke and dehydration are a BIG threat for me OUTSIDE of fursuit, let alone in one.
this is so helpful! i might go to a birthday furmeet in a few months! and i have been in a gc with the people for over half a year now and they host a lot of meets but i will be pretty awkward haha
I've gone to... most cons I've gone to solo. I almost always make friends and I have always had a great time! Here's my strategies: 1) ABSOLUTELY go to panels on your interests, especially greeting/social/interactive panels! 2) when going to a panel, scan out if there's anyone who is wearing something you recognize/has pins you know on a bag/something like that, and go ask if you can sit next to them and compliment that thing! We're all nerds and any fandom-y thing someone is wearing is something they wanna talk about! 3) a lot of people are at cons to meet people. if there's a loose group of people sitting and chatting, especially if you're at a con with the green/yellow/red system of social and everyone's got green, you can absolutely go up and ask if you can sit in with them. the worst that can happen is they say no, which stings and I know with social anxiety if can feel like the end of the world, but it's not! 4) keep it moving! a lot of fun stuff at cons happens spontaneously in random spots, if you're bored walk a lap of the convention floor and you may well find something fun to do! 5) wear something fun yourself! even if you don't have a suit, an interesting shirt, ita bag, anything nerdy gives other people a conversation opener to engage with you! I have an ita bag with a bunch of fandom pins that I wear around and it absolutely gives me a bunch of engagement, and if you haven't suited/cosplayed (in the instance of anime or mixed conventions, or like.. furryish cosplay. i have a cosplay-style scourge warriorcats getup, it goes over great at furry cons), I highly recommend trying it! it opens people up to come compliment it or ask about it, which is another great opener! I think solo conning is honestly the best, even when I have friends at a con I generally don't plan to spend specific time with any of them.. I make My schedule and see where our interests overlap, and allow for spontaneous things that lead me to spend more time with those friends, or spend time making new friends! I make sure to let all my friends know 'i'm a flighty bitch at cons' so they know not to plan on me as a companion, and honestly I can't really survive conning any other way. Having to consult with others on what I'm doing every hour of the day drives me nuts
I did wear my partial to cons all by myself before I lost my 1.0. Now I just recently obtain 2.0 which the material and vision is different so I have to be different. Especially I will be going to VCF in two weeks.
omg i needed this lol. im going to TFF in a few weeks and i dont have anyone to go with :( none of my out of state friends are going T_T though, i know i will still enjoy it regardless :3
Oh hey! I'm headed to TFF too! Make sure to hit me up! My badge will be Mika Mizell, and I'll be in a brown opossum partial suit, green and blue dragon, or white and purple goat!
I go to nearly all cons solo, but yeah (even tho they have been anime) if you see someone with a costume or outfit that you like, go tell them! A lot of times you'll get to talking and will make friends with them. But also check to see if like local fur groups are meeting up at cons, that's a good way to hang out with people who are from your area or same fandoms.
I’ve never been to one, but I’ve been curious, so I will have to see if one is coming to NY, where I live, even though I’m not a furry, I’ve been curious about the community

I've never been to a furry con, but I've gone to other conventions alone. It's not the worst experience. There's no conflict on where to go, what to do; you're free to spend the time however you wish and I've never felt unsafe at conventions because most have rules about starting any kind of scene. You can't even say someone's costume is lackluster without getting kicked out. The downsides is that there's no one to watch your stuff, no one to carry your stuff, no one to geek out with and no one to have your back when conflicts break out. That said, I've only seen shit go down at transformer conventions and the worst of it was a guy nearly flipping a table over being sold a fake figure. Security put a stop to it pretty quickly and I wasn't involved, just watched from around the corner like the coward I am. 😅 Never even really considered safety tips at a con but then again, I'm ugly so no one hits on me aside from people thinking I'm an easy ATM.
