What’s the Glass movie about?
From Unbreakable, Bruce Willis returns as David Dunn as does Samuel L. Jackson as Elijah Price, known also by his pseudonym Mr. Glass. Joining from Split are James McAvoy, reprising his role as Kevin Wendell Crumb and the multiple identities who reside within, and Anya Taylor-Joy as Casey Cooke, the only captive to survive an encounter with The Beast.
Following the conclusion of Split, Glass finds Dunn (Bruce Willis from Die Hard and The Sixth Sense) pursuing Kevin’s (James McAvoy from X-Men and Atomic Blonde) superhuman figure of The Beast in a series of escalating encounters. Meanwhile, the shadowy presence of Elijah Price (Samuel L. Jackson from Pulp Fiction, The Avengers and Unbreakable) emerges as an orchestrator who holds secrets critical to both men.

I love that this shows the strength difference between them. The Beast uses his whole body to throw the table and David catches it with barely moving. David throws it with some force and The Beast slides from the force.

After that Mr Glass tells the Beast about his weekness, so i think thats proof enough that David would win in a 1 on 1 battle.
But in the end, the ending sucked for all 3.

This reminds me of the short dialogue between Elijah's mother and David in 'Unbreakable', every hero has two types of enemies: the soldier villain, who fights the hero with his body (The Beast), and the real threat, the Mastermind (Mr. Glass) who fights the hero with his mind. Kinda Lex Luthor and Doomsday, for Superman.

Have in mind David is Unbreakable, he was never physically injured, not even in the train wreck, and this guy comes out of nowhere and can actually make him feel "pain". Then we have the other side of the coin, The Beast could crush any human being's spine, except this one, and you know what he thinks of those who haven't been broken. Excellent representation of the hero-villain relationship and the different points of view in this saga.
This fight looked like a big brother fighting his little brother. The calm of the older brother vs the rage of the younger sibling.
Wasn’t a fan of the ending, and the movie got a little TOO slow at times.
But this scene is pretty cool. I love the Beast’s face when they reach the ground. He’s completely bewildered. This old man is every bit as strong as he is, if not stronger.
And it pisses him off.
I think a big part of the problem for the Beast is that David is the antithesis of it's belief system. The Beast believes only 'the broken' are pure and deserving of life and that it must be the strongest; so as to protect Kevin from all possible threats. These beliefs are key to both the Beast and the rest of Team Horde.
Then into their world comes the Overseer, a man who cannot be broken no matter matter what Team Horde does, a man who protects the unworthy from harm and perhaps worst of all, a man who's is stronger than the Beast; a man who could harm Kevin even with the Beast in control.
David is everything the Horde hates and fears, wrapped up into a single man. It's not surprising to me once she regains the light after this; Patricia is eager to find out 'who the man in the rain poncho is', she needs to know who and what this new danger is.
It wasn't the sequel we wanted or needed...

I love how easily he walked to the window. Like there was nothing the Beast could do to slow him down.
You can actually hear the Beast getting more and more pissed as the Overseer not only doesn't die, but just starts walking around. This is not what is supposed to happen, the Beast is meant to be the STRONGEST, but here is David seeming more sort of inconvenienced by all this than really injured by any of it (I mean it probably hurt, but with how tough his bones are, they were never going to crush like what the Beast expected to happen).

The Beast would never have been able to win, not only is he slightly or at best equal in strength. He isn’t indestructible like David. Eventually it’ll go to David due to his durability.
@@user-rs9bc4qr2s Unless of course the Beast had somehow lucked into the Water weakness like 'The Orange Man' did back on David's first attempt at superheroics. But with no Mr Glass to tell them that and no evidence of any large bodies of water nearby, the Beast would need to somehow keep the fight going long enough for it to change locations and then stumble onto The Overseer's weakness by pure chance. The odds were clearly in David's favour here if they hadn't been interrupted.
@@JamesTobiasStewart Yeah, Beast can’t hit harder than a full speed train crash and that didn’t even scratch David. Overseer had this simply by his endurance and durability alone. The fact he doesn’t even notice he’s pressing 200kg is also impressive.
And nothing David could do to get the Beast off him. They're equals, this is later shown in the second fight when they both fall to the ground at the same time. To hurt the other they must hurt themselves too.
This is exactly how people with superpowers that dont have proper training fight

An UNBREAKABLE man fights a man with a SPLIT mind, who were both created by a man with GLASS bones.
An unstoppable force versus an unmovable object
For a movie trying to focus on superpowers in a real world setting, I just always found it awesome that the officers they had lined up against David were all in heavy padding in protective armor. Just seeing how the police would have to prep for a tank like David is awesome.
The Flash therapy for the Beast was also a nice touch as well. Great movie. Didn’t like it when it first came out, but it’s great to watch nwo

I would’ve really liked to see a longer and more epic fight scene between these two. The last scene was cool, but the actual fighting between them was really short.
If the whole movie kept the tone and pace that the first 20min had, this film would've been incredible.
The fight wouldn't have lasted much longer, David clearly showed he was not only stronger but can take much more punishment both times they squared off against each-other.

I quite like the subtle take on strength here. The table still has mass and inertia- The Horde has to balance and push it against gravity. Likewise when he tries to shove Gunn he has to push off something. This is how you portray actual strength without it looking like cheap effects. You can portray strength without trying to overwrite basic physics.
it’s so heartbreaking to hear David saying “it’s gonna be okay, Joseph” when you already know that by the end of the movie he’s gonna die from drowning in a fucking puddle

It’s still amazing to me just how buffed up McAvoy was able to get for this role.
Roids. All actors needing mass for their roll take it. It's super obvious when the shoulders get bigger and rounder, specifically the rear delts and traps. As those muscles typically have higher count of androgen receptors that take well to the extra Testosterone.
My issue with this fight is that it was just too short. David comes to the rescue. Frees the cheerleaders, then he faces the beast and starts to fight. They fallout of the window uninjured then just as the fight was getting good its interrupted by a stupid ass scene with the cops and lights. This movie may not have been marvel but it had so much potential
Here, David is far more powerful. Beast fights without holding back whereas David always holds himself back.
It's funny watching the beast guy slowly climb up the pillar and jump behind Bruce and Bruce is just standing there looking at the pillar like, "What? Where did he go?"

The Beast was trying to kill David Dunn the whole time while David was just chilling saving those 4 cheerleaders.
After years of wondering how this movie had such a great start and such a terrible ending I realized the real "Beast" is not Kevin but M. Night Shyamalan itself.
In his normal state Mister Night is a genious director, but when in his other personality, Shyamalan is just a dysfunctional moron who has no clue on directing. There.

Its been two years and I still get mad thinking about how strong this movie started out, only to end with a whimper. David's death was complete horse shit. David Dunn fights crime for around 20 years, then he gets drowned in a puddle. Ridiculous.

I think David's power was essentially that his strength, stamina, and endurance grew in response to the situation.
That's one of his powers; he's always as strong as he needs to be in the given situation. The other power, of course, is that he's physically invulnerable to everything except water entering his respiratory tract.

As when drowning in the tank, he could no longer punch his way out.
David isn't super strong in the traditional sense, like the first comment said David is only as strong as he needs to be, it's more of a subconscious will to find the strength he needs to handle the current situation he's in like when he recounted the story of him ripping the car door off to save his girlfriend after they wrecked when he was younger and now him catching the table and overpowering the beast

What’s sad is during filming Bruce Willis had difficulty remembering his lines. He had to wear an ear piece for crews to tell him what to say next.
A lot are worried he could possibly be at an early stage of dementia hence why his being starring in so many direct to dvd movies as of late to get at much work as possible before it’s too late.
And unfortunately, he has just retired due to a disease called aphacia
Well you're correct.
They could have achieved the same ending, people finding out super heroes are real, while not killing David while drowning him in a puddle, and putting a bullet in the beast while his defenses are down. You could have killed them off too, just not like that. Have people see them fighting, have Elijah’s reaction to seeing everyone discovering comic heroes are real as the crowd gathers. It would at least have been respectful to the characters.

I know it's not the kind of movie that tends to get Oscar buzz, which is a shame. James deserved at least a best actor nomination for this character. All of the distinct personalities he played and transitioned through were incredibly compelling.

That a secret organization bent on eliminating super humans is also incredibly unrealistic and that an insane asylum that was simply runned by the same people is also unbelievably stupid. Realistically, the only way for David to be killed was if the Horde finished him off in the puddle rather than a “secret” officer, plus it takes a really long time to drown someone without anyone else noticing.
Right on. That ending ruined the entire movie and franchise.

Yeah it’s pretty obvious that David would eventually win. But still a good fight, wouldn’t be “easy” for David as it’d be time consuming. But David being indestructible makes it hard for the beast to win.

the first act of this film was so intriguing.
Honestly when Dr. Staple was trying to convince the 3 characters that they were normal, Patricia should have mentioned that the Beast lifted a whole ass table with minimal effort, threw it several feet, then caught it easily only sliding back a foot or two. That would've shut Staple up.
As well as crawled up a wall, without any climbing equipment, just Kevin's body alone.
You are missing the point. Staple already know that they are real superheroes. She was just trying to trick them.

At the end of the movie, we understand that Staple is a member of the secret organization that suppress superheroes, and they do this with 3 different methods, the first is to trick them, make them believe they are normal people. If the first method isn't enough, they start to use the second one, as they say in the movie "we use the machine", a surgery operation like the one they did to Mr. Glass.
Then, again, if the first and second methods aren't enough, they use the third one, the most cruel one, they kill them, like at the end of the movie.
Now, what would have changed if they would shown some concrete demostration of their powers? They would be subjected to the second or third method.
The reason why David and Kevin doesn't show their powers is because of the devices that Staple use against them, the water for David, and the light for Kevin, they would be stopped.

Most annoying part is how David died, he already overcame his drowning weakness, idk why they used it again.
He didn't overcome it. Two kids fished him out of the pool in the first movie. He and them would have died if not for that. In this movie, they mentioned an incident where he got weakened by an open fire hydrant and in the hospital he was staying at, his room was rigged with high pressure sprinklers that went off when he saw Kevin in the room across from his. Beacause he was gonna fight him then and there. Also in vase you didn't notice, unlike his fight with the orange man, David had no time to recover from the Beast nearly drowning him. That punch through the wall was the last of his strength and had those clover guys not come in time to grab and drown him, he would have had enough time to recover and fight them all off. They pretty much did to him what Lex Luthor should have done, when he first exposed Superman to Kryptonite. Finished him while he was vulnerable. Water was always his weakness. His bones are too dense to float and his phobia is so strong that it physically hurts him. No different than The Horde's powers limited to their beliefs.

We can see david found it hard to breath when the beast hugged him and he also had a hard time escaping when the beast struggled him in their final fight and even if the bear hug would still not break david it would at least knock him out from lack of oxygen

This is rage vs composure. Sometimes one wins over the other. Sometimes not.
When the unbreakable object meets the unstoppable force. Doesn't feel like an actual fight but amazing interactions nonetheless. After years still wish the ending was different specially for David.
I enjoyed this trilogy.
And the most brilliant thing about it was, we didn't even know we were going into a trilogy until the end of Split when david was revealed and the music came on. Amazing twist in itself!!

1:12 it would have been sick if the beast German suplex David or role reversal to david suplexing the beast in with that camera angle. And switch to a overhead camera after of them in pain with a cloud of dust from the slam.
The fights in this movie are 90% slowly pushing each other. Throw a punch or something.
I think the fight was kinda boring, however, its more realistic. Just because you have super human strength doesn't mean your some sort of fighting machine. That takes additional time and training. This scene seemed to be two sub-par fighters with also happens to be super strong. Just like all the real fights you've seen in person or on the internet. Most are not impressive.
