  • Welcome back to Drifting South! This week we are spending a few days on the South Thompson river near Shuswap lake in British Columbia checking out the spawning Chinook and Sockeye salmon.
We stayed right on the river at Shuswap Meadows RV park just outside of Chase. On our first full day in the area we got picked up by Matt Jennings on his jet boat and cruised up the river looking for Rainbow Trout. We then met up with him the next day and ran up to the mouth of the Adams river.
What a beautiful area to spend a few days in the fall. I highly recommend!
As we drift further south into the Kootneys we are getting further up in elevation and the temperatures are dropping. Also it seems that all the provincial parks and most of the RV parks in the area are closed for the season which made finding a spot to over-night a nit more difficult.
We are figuring it all out as we go and we live and learn along the way.

Thank you, Robin! Haha it’s definitely not feeling like Florida weather up here. We are currently in northern Oregon and heading further south today. Hope to be out of the freezing nightly temps in the next couple days. Take care!!

why all the dead fish? must not be a water issue, if your letting your dog in the water.

The dead fish are all spawned out salmon. It’s the end of their life cycle. They head up the river to where they were hatched and they lay more eggs before passing away. It’s a very interesting lifecycle the salmon have.
      Thanks for asking

Absolutely right Charlie!! Thanks so much for watching. We are currently in northern Oregon and heading further south. Our chairs outside were all shimmery with frost this morning. Yikes.
