Human settlement of the Santa Clarita Valley dates back to the arrival of the Chumash people, who were displaced by the Tataviam circa 450 AD. After Spanish colonists arrived in Alta California, the Rancho San Francisco was established, covering much of the Santa Clarita Valley. Henry Mayo Newhall purchased the Rancho San Francisco in 1875 and established the towns of Saugus and Newhall. The Newhall Land and Farming Company played a major role in the city's development. In December 1987, the city of Santa Clarita was incorporated, encompassing the communities of Canyon Country, Newhall, Saugus, and Valencia. The four communities retain separate identities, and residents commonly refer to one of them when asked where they are from. Santa Clarita is bounded on the west by the Golden State Freeway (I-5). The Antelope Valley Freeway (CA-14) runs northeast-southwest forming part of the city's irregular east boundary. The two freeways meet at Newhall Pass, near the city's southernmost point.
Santa Clarita is home to three institutions of higher education: California Institute of the Arts, an internationally renowned art university; The Master's University, a Christian liberal arts university; and College of the Canyons, a community college. Companies headquartered in or near the city include Princess Cruises, Sunkist, Remo, and the Newhall Land and Farming Company. Santa Clarita has a low crime rate and high-ranking schools, and is one of the state's fastest-growing cities. Six Flags Magic Mountain amusement park and Stevenson Ranch are both commonly associated with Santa Clarita. However, they are both located west of Interstate 5 and are thus outside the Santa Clarita city limits.

I moved from Sarasota, FL to Stevenson Ranch in 1999 for work and school and lived there until 2015, but moved back to Florida in August of '15 to help take care of ailing parents. I'm happy I was able to spend the last few years of their life with them and in my heart I know I did the right thing, but there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about living in Santa Clarita and missing it terribly. I would consider moving back, but I'm retired now and a move back to Socal would be very cost prohibitive. Florida is cheaper and better suited for retirees, but IMHO, Stevenson Ranch and the Santa Clarita area is prettier than southern Sarasota County hands down. Oh well, it was great living in Socal while it lasted!

I was a kid in the 1990’s in saugus. Maybe im biased, but you really had to be there to understand just how perfect a place this was to grow up. I feel about santa clarita how hp lovecraft felt about providence RI, or john muir felt about the mountains, or how america felt about the moon in 1969. It was the perfect balance of quaint rustic charm, and affluent suburban disconnection from reality haha. You could drive an hour in ANY direction on a saturday and end up in the glitz and glamour of Hollywood,
the sparkling pacific blue under a burning sun at the beach, the snowy pine mountains in winter, or the wide open high desert with peach sherbet sunsets. People rode horses beside the road, rode mountain bikes on the trails, threw pebbles into the river on the rare but beautiful rainy days. Kind, decent, hardworking neighbors were always out and about after work washing their classic cars in their driveways. Moms were always hand delivering baked goods to eachother. Neighborhood kids rode bikes until it was dinner time. I know it was mostly just borrowed time, but if i didnt have a nervous breakdown in 2010 and left the military, i might have gotten a good job at a studio or in an office, bought a 1 bedroom condo, and would have spent every night strolling along the paseos until my family gathered together at chichis ir yamatos. Instead, i moved where life is affordable for losers like me. But i still dream 3 or 4 times a week about flying over my little valley while the sun sinks behind the hills over six flags.

Great video. I grew up in Valencia, you drove right past the street I lived on and where my mother still lives since 1969. I believe Valencia Glen and then Meadows were built right after Old Orchard. Population back in early 70's had to be less than 50 thousand. We grew up outside riding our dirt bikes for hours every day. Great place back then, too crowded for me now. But great memories. Thanks

Thank you. How would you rate the roads overall in SC? The first few minutes had me worried as I'm considering a move here and I do a lot of driving. My main feedback to you is to put titles for each time you pass by a major street so we have an idea where we currently are.

2 hours to get anywhere at any time. Democrats took over and the place became rundown, overrun with homeless, and the cost of living exploded. It isnt safe after dark anymore and the cops are now bigger jerks than before. Bands of teens smoke weed in all the parks and play antifa around anyone they suspect of being conservative. Apartments dont do background checks anymore and they still blame the drought for the high water prices after years and years. All the historic sites are vandalized, the monument plaques have all been stolen, and everybody is standoffish and suspicious all the time. But, at least the dems who caused it all get to feel super good about how much progress they made here haha.

If you were white. And grew up in the SCV back in the Late 70's and 80s. You were living rhe dream. With the exception of a few neighborhoods. Valencia is a giant turd. Its over populated. And the freeways are a nightmare. Newhall/canyon county are garbage. And nothing fun last long. When it comes to any kinda nightlife.
