    This is a superb class! I just bought my Vevor anvil, propane forge, 1" and 2" belt sanders, some knife steel stock, wood and micarta scales, and a few other things. But, I haven't made a knife yet. I came here to get educated first, and you are doing just that! I'm confident my first knife is going to be pretty darn nice thanks to your tutorials. Much appreciated man.

    A little tip. Use double sided tape along the entire surface on your granite block so the sandpaper stays in one spot. Use a figure 8 pattern instead of back and forth to give more of an even reduction in material.

    Ok. I'm pretty much ashamed of my previous knives. I did not sand and finish the blade properly,. I cut corners with the scotch bright belts and I just looked at a few that have noticeable scratches. It's not going to happen again. Thanks for the wake up call on this.

      Funny you say that! It was upon reviewing some of my first work that brought me to where I am today! I didn't start my knife making journey with this amount of patience. I have actual re-done or replaced a couple knives from years ago but I took it as an opertunity to snap the blades and look at the grain inside. I was pleasantly surprised! Thanks for watching my videos!

    • @Aleeknives
      @Aleeknives  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You will get it my friend, here's a good tip on grinding, start on your weak side first and then grind with your strong side it's always easier to get your grind to match on your strong side. So if you're right-handed start grinding the left hand side first then moved to grinding your right side and you'll be able to match your bevels much more evenly

    You are one of my two favorite knife builders and I thank you for so freely sharing what I consider to be excellent tips. In this video you said you liked vulcanized fiberboard as liners. Lately I have shifted to G-10, only because of concern that fiberboard can get water-logged and lose its color when wet. In your experience does fiberboard hold up to like a 10 yo cub scout playing in creeks and etc with his knife attached to his belt?

    I'm sorry if I missed it. What kind of wood was used for the handles? My father made knives for around 30 years before he passed away. I am in the process of finishing some of the knives that was left in various stages of completion before he died 3 1/2 years ago. I watched my father make them for years and I have piddled with making them several years ago. I enjoy seeing different processes from one knife maker to the next and I have to say; you outstanding job on your knives and I have learned a lot from watching your videos. Please keep them coming.

    • @Aleeknives
      @Aleeknives  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This was wood that I pulled out of the firewood bundle one day. I can only guess because there wasn't any bark left on the wood. I think it was spalted hackberry

  • @chadconkling7034
    @chadconkling7034 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a question. Is there a reason why you don’t drill several smaller holes in the steel material. To allow the epoxy to squeeze through for a stronger bond. At the handle.
    Regards,
    Chad

    ive watched some use Q-tips for the clean up of those small spots by the front of handle. Looks like it might be easier than paper at times.

    • @Aleeknives
      @Aleeknives  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have used Q-tips also but sometimes it leaves little strands behind to bite you later. I like the crisp corner of a folded paper towel. I have definitely tried it though! Thanks for watching! Any ideas for a future build?
