    Totally fair apart from the France and Belgium thing. Nobody in Belgium knows anything about their colonial history, and France hasn't even stopped running its empire.

      @tjmarx 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +47

      The UK hasn't stopped running it's either, only it uses yankville as a proxy attack dog very often these days.

    • @tjmarx
      @tjmarx 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@gyorkshire257 Entirely false. Any power yankville claims to have is solely derived as a gift from Britain. If you actually bother to read the treaties between the UK and yankville from the early to mid 20th centre, particularly the north atlantic treaty and the successive treaties that would eventually become the five eyes agreement, you will find that the UK welds enormous control over yankville, it's foreign policies and what its military does/doesn't.
      Yankville isn't completely a puppet state, it's better described as the UKs proxy attack dog. It holds this position because the UK didn't want to be bankrupted by another world war and as an answer to being seen as colonial.

    I'm from malaysia. We used to be number 1 exporter of tin and rubber in the world. But at that time we were under British rule. All the revenue went to Britain. Even after they gave us independence in 1957, the rubber estates and tin mines were still owned by British companies. Only in 1970s that we can afford to buy back those companies. Yes, the British did build roads, rails and ports in our country. But that was because they need them to transport the rubber and tin, for their profit. Colonisation is robbery!

      What?... ye had to BUY back that which was stolen from ye...typically Brits....Well done on yeer support for Gaza.... respect from Ireland....The Palastinians have been having an insufferable time for decades....time to get off their backs and leave them run their own lives in peace and dignity....again...well done to ye....

    As a Brit I can't stop laughing at how accurate this is, then when my laughter dies down the sad awful truth returns, that this is very true of Britain.
    Our Government keeps pumping this crap in hopes it holds us together as a fig leaf for their divisive games elsewhere in society like gender, age, working and disabled, high and low earners, food bank users and well to do's. Homeless and immigration, university educated and autistic education failed.
    These separations of society are papered over by government with this trope of British Empire Success without saying Empire or Domination of 25% of the world.
    No Empire has ever been good for societies not Mongol, Roman, Chinese, Japanese, British, none. Every single one has relied upon abuse, murder, and suffering. The British were simply the most abusive, and murderous causing the most suffering all for gain of Britain, pillage and rape were the tools.
    As a Brit, I'm proud of our nautical achievements but never of our Empire.
    The Empire and now the commonwealth should be dissolved and told truthfully, not gloriously.

      A variant of (Irish) Gaelic, called (Scottish) Gaelic is still spoken in many parts of north and west Scotland as an everyday language. Wales has a celtic language as well, and even the English county of Cornwall attempted to revive the extinct Cornish language, which is a variant of the Welsh celtic language. Even the small Isle of Man has Manx, a variant of (Irish) Gaelic. So there are many celtic speaking areas in the British Isles, but Ireland certainly leads the way as a *free* country !

    Mediocre skit compared to some of his other content.
    And the Hong Kong part doesn't fit. At all. You can bet those people would much rather still be British subjects than suffering under Beijing's oppression.

    Perhaps trying having the same conversation involving a Welsh Miner or Iron Worker, a Lancashire Cotton Mill worker, a labourer digging canals, a Cornish Tin miner a family of Lincolnshire chaingang workers and see what you come up with. Not all of Britain benefited from or are responsible for what a tiny minority did or derived a benefit from. Historically most Britons were an exploited majority.
    Perhaps even try having the conversation from the point of view of modern Britons, involving perhaps say African, Asian, Caribbean or God forbid, the descendents of Irish migrants to modern Britain.
    Not everyone holding a UK passport today shares this version of British history. Modern Britain is a shared space of a range of cultures, beliefs, ethnicities. This renders the sketch as a xenophobic diatribe or even a futile attack on the long dead.

      Its the “British Empire” representing the political attributions and governments of these countries, not British people. Please read the title again and understand these are not supposed to represent the people.

    Completely ignorant about British attitudes to the Empire. British people generally are very apologetic about it and view it as an embarrassment.

      @AdoraTsang It”s about British people’s alleged attitudes to the empire. He’s attacking the British people by saying they think the empires great. They don’t.

      Some people are, some people aren't. These attitudes do exist, and are common.

      @@aliasgharkhoyee9501 There are a mixture of opinions. His sketch implies that British people all think the empire was great. This is not the case. It is a misrepresentation of the British which will stir up anti-british sentiment

      @@jonoessex you're not wrong on the whole, there's nuance in reality, but are you sure THIS is what 'stirs up' that sentiment rather than actual history of horrific actions?
