    The BBC did a great job with this contest and Angela Rippon brought just the right blend of formality / informality even when her ear piece wasn't working and the score board was wrong. She always has had a very warm on screen personality.
    The songs - what a mixture and how to judge once against the other?
    Can anyone explain how Israel's song was so underrated? It is a beautiful ballad and Ilanit performed really well.
    Spain as per usual brought some sunshine and clapping which I liked.
    I found the Portuguese very moving singing about their country.
    Lindsey ( RIP- a very sweet lady) & Mike made a great job of Rock Bottom which was a kind of novelty number and so had an unexpectedly high vote.
    Michelle Torr ( great performance / not so good song) Switzerland also underrated I think.
    However Marie Myriam and France deserved their win. L'oiseau et l'enfant is a beautiful song that survives the test of time.

      I agree about Angela's classy compering of the show and haven't much to add about the songs, except Ireland were copying Brotherhood of Man and nearly caught us, Austria's song seemed to go on for ten minutes, and Monaco: well Those Were The Days My Friend, weren't they..

      The BBC did a great job with this contest? The contest was delayed for almost a month due to a strike of the technicians/cameramen.
      Don't like the way Angela was hosting either. Listen how she's talking to the Dutch spokesman when he correctly mentions the error that The Netherlands should have got 6 in stead of 5 points: "look, why don't we let them sort out their problems, you give us your votes". Not very kind is it?

    • @Tenortalker
      @Tenortalker 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@georgedc1981 I wouldn't remember the strike I am afraid , but was referring to the contest on the night which was certainly not the worst Eurovision we have seen, rather good in comparison with some. I suspect that Angela Rippon was receiving instructions from her studio management team to move the voting on. There are always time considerations with a live broadcast let alone an international one. Perhaps she is to the point , but not unkind. In fact I can confirm to you having spent time in her company on a project in France some time ago that she is very good company and thoughtful of others.

    What a great contest. I started to watch all contests from oldest to newest last month. I thought the 1976 was great, after the somewhat lame 1975 contest. But 1977 was even better. Both 1976 and 1977 had not a single boring song (at least for me). I think it's quite funny hearing UK singing "Where are we? Rock bottom." when they often hit rock bottom in the contest nowadays. Well, I'm from germany, so I can feel their pain.
    My points for the 1977 contest:
    12 points - France
    10 points - Greece
    8 points - Luxembourg

    6 points - Germany
    5 points - Finland

    Comme dans ce temps, l'Eurovision représentait vraiment quelque chose, nous l'avons regardé en famille, et immédiatement nous avons su que cette chanson allait gagner ...et en prime, quelques temps après j'ai dû l'apprendre à l'école pour la chanter avec toute ma classe devant nos parents, en fin d'année ...

    • @ML-sm8zc
      @ML-sm8zc ปีที่แล้ว

      LOL
      Le concours Eurovision de la Chanson n'a jamais représenté vraiment quelque chose. Les TV nationales ont toujours jouer sur la nationalisme, le chauvinisme du public.
      La France n'y faisait pas exception. Faut-il rappeler que le ministère de l'information n'avait pas été abolit depuis longtemps.
      Les commentateurs de ce concours étaient des plus chauvins.
      Les candidats français avaient systématiquement LA MEILLEURE CHANSON à les entendre, et ils ne cessaient de dénoncer le "VOL" quand la France perdait.
      J'ai toujours suivi l'Eurovision précisément pour son coté "Kitsch", sa mauvaise foi, les costumes délirants de certains participants, des chansons parfois ridicules et évidemment pour y voir des "incidents".
      Quand Marie Myriam avait terminé sa performance, j'avais dit "C'est pas avec une autre chanson cul-cul que la France va gagner"
      Encore aujourd'hui je ne comprends pas que la France ait pu gagner avec une telle chanson, quand elle n'a même pas atteint le top 10 avec des chansons, plus tard, autrement plus représentative de sa culture moderne.
      Ça reste que depuis 1977 la France n'a pas remporté le trophée du gagnant soit 45 ans !!!!
      Bien content que vous vous êtes quand même rendu compte que ce concours s'inscrit dans la catégorie divertissement, variétés et non dans la catégorie politique, information, éducation.

    There were postcards filmed for this contest at a nightclub in London but the Norwegian head of delegation objected to Anita Skorgan drinking in her postcard as she was below the age at which you could drink alcohol in Norway, she was 18 ! and also the Swedish head of delegation objected as their group could be seen behaving in a less than exemplary way so as there was no time to film new ones they were scrapped at last minute.
