Thanks for this. I've only had to write cover letters for academic positions in the past, which require giving a synopsis of your current research projects. It was a bit shocking but refreshing to hear I can probably get away with extremely short letters outside of academia.
Hi, Andrew I am applying for two jobs with a nonprofit that provided me services many years ago that literally saved me from being homeless at the time. Would it be appropriate to include this somewhere in my cover letter relating this information and should I mention that I am currently taking college classes that would help me in this field and planning to go for my masters degree? These positions are completely different than my last job I had, yet I have transferrable skills. The reason I am applying for these jobs would help me in applying to a masters program I am looking into. Please advise. I appreciate your time and free advice. Have a good day.
Hey Andy, this video was very helpful. I've used your cover letters before but this video really clarified for me the different situations in which I would use them. Thank you! Could you point me to where I can find your cover letter advice (and other related advice) for a career change? I'm going through one right now. I have watched your career change first 7 steps video but haven't found much in the area of CL/resumes for career changers. (Edit: I just found your career changer playlist so looking through that now)
That playlist is a good place to be. You can use my cover templates for a career change, however, boss hunting won't be effective because as a career changer, you won't have the requisite skills that the boss actually needs at the moment. So that becomes an ineffective technique when you're making a full career change. With career changes, I recommend networking. My networking templates, and other full career change your instruction is not in the public domain. That's something that's inside my job search coaching program. By your TH-cam handle, I don't think you're in my job search coaching program, but if that's something you're interested in, please email us at support@milewalk.com, and Kara will make sure you get the best rate if you're interested.
Hey Andrew, thanks for this useful material. I'd like to ask you if you can cover a little about how to narrow LinkdIn and Resume to someone in IT industry that had did various types of job into IT, and now have too much different experience. It is my case and I do not know what to let in LKdin and resume. If I write all that I made it looks like "Jacke of all trades" 😢
Hi 👋🏽 Andy, I’m being referred for a role that’s not open and it’s a direct cover letter to the president. I am a job changer. Which cover letter would you suggest I use?
If you’re being referred, I assume you mean you’re getting an introduction. If that’s the case, you’re going to open up with some thing that relates you to them based on the introduction. That’s going to be specific to how you were actually introduced. From there, you can take whichever body of these cover letters is most appropriate based on your accomplishments and your applicability to the company and its potential roles. Good luck!
I can’t figure out how to find “bosses” email addresses or HR/recruting. Often LinkedIn doesn’t share an email address and nothing is listed on company pages anymore. How do we find email address of the person to send these emails?
Great question Morgan! There are many sites such as hunter.io and verifyemailaddress.org where you can get the configuration and confirm it's an actual address!

Or you can just inbox them on LinkedIn!
Hi Andy, I am trying to join your website. I am not getting any emails in my inbox to confirm membership please help
Thank you for joining! If you're having any trouble (I'd check spam first), please email us at support@milewalk.com and Kara will get you in order!!!
Shouldn't we put NOC number after job position in cover letter?
You can if you'd like!
@@andylacivita Thanks, Mr A. LaCivita 🙃
at 11:01 are you saying don't apply for jobs online?
I would avoid applying online for any job at all costs!
Just want a short sweet cover letter
There’s a 4 sentence one inside there.
One would mentally burn out if currently unemployed.

VP of Operations - I've never used a cover letter...
Your resume and experience matter, your life's diatribe does not...
Then you can take my resume and review it. I am looking :)
