What a lovely thing to read, thank you for taking the time to comment, words like this are hugely appreciated when I am just a beginner in this youtube journey and making lots of mistakes. I will endeavour to keep improving and hopefully getting better, and I hope you can enjoy and journey with me - best wishes Prof Egan
Establish a gateway habit and then build another one on top of it. Habit ladder. Mastery is the process of narrowing your focus to a tiny element of success, repeating it until you have internalized the skill, and then using this new habit as the foundation to advance to the next frontier habit ladder of your development
Glad it was helpful! I appreciate your comment Temi. I will keep going, it gives me motivation when I know you find it helpful - go well in your own journey - Prof Egan
Really engaging and a great introduction to the world of habits and goal achievement. I'll be sharing this widely with the goups that I work with, including The Distractibles and at my student inductions!👏
Thank you for your comment, much appreciated, that’s the end of my habit trilogy, I’m now moving onto producing some videos on aspects of reading and retaining knowledge
That is very kind of you to say. I am only just starting out and is difficult to keep going, as I am not always successful with the videos I produce, and therefore comments like yours are a great support. Go well in your journey - Prof Egan
Only 4k views? I watched this thinking it had like 2 million. Great video, I think this was really helpful! By the way, what's your field, professor? I'm a chemistry undergrad who's specialized in procrastinating.
arh thank you, I appreciate your comment x times a million! you made me watch it again and reflect on that video - it was 7 months ago, and I'd never held a camera/recorded to camera/edited/been on youtube until 5 months previously - it was a good effort considering. But yeah, TH-cam has never really picked up any of my videos, thats actually the one with the most views! But the 4k views was only because it got 'suggested' for 2 weeks at the end of a popular video. Often they die after being put out to people for a few days! I've tried many different styles but nothing has really clicked. I'm still learning, and need to improve and be more consistent with uploading, and key aspects of the click and retention formula. However, it is frustrating when you see other channels and videos get in the 1000's when they don't seem to be doing anything better. At the start TH-cam is a test in perseverance, you just have to keep going, learning more, getting better. A few years ago I would never even have been bothered to start it, let alone continue when not getting results! Truth is I'm am about where I should be after a year on TH-cam, coming up to 1000 subs. I have only created about 30 long form videos, and so still in the very early stages, patience is the key. The story for most creators is the first 1000 subs is a grind, but you're gradually getting better, and therefore hopefully begin to reach more people. But as you're grinding, you're only really aware of the channels that accelerate much quicker and have videos that take off. I'm not really doing it for the numbers, It all started off as a way to reach and help more students. I feel so much pain can be caused in studying now, and yet there are many simple things that can be done, if you can connect with the student. I've enjoyed doing it, and will continue, and hopefully the videos can help a few students with my story and advice. Its like.. if only this video helps you, then making it was worth it :-) My field is Organisational Psychology. I sympathise with you if you have specialised in procrastination. I find with many of my students, it's not about ability, but the 'doing'. Many students are still relatively young, and the typical study age is at a time when we are still learning about ourselves, and in particular we haven't had time to reflect and change any bad habits that have been created in these early formative years. I was a chronic procrastinator for years, even into my working academic life, I would say it is only in the last 3 years I have resolved things, to find focus. Although I had academic success, I was winging it for years and covering up days of skiving, and doing anything but what I should have been! Sorry for the long reply! I wish you every success in your study and life, and if you ever struggle and need someone to talk to about procrastination, I am here for you, and feel free to contact me at my uni or on here. Best wishes, Mark
