Excellent video! It's very cool that Purdue has established such a twirling legacy, and that the twirlers are able to make an impact on the community beyond the sport itself.

Any alumni twirlers in the Fort Wayne area interested in giving a little girl twirling lessons? She has been enthralled since first seeing the Purdue Twirlers!

I love twirling but it is not a sport. My dad is a football coach and said it is an athletic competition

To me it's a sport just as much as figure skating is a sport. Like skating or rhythmic gymnastics, performances are subjectively judged by people and not by a clock or tape measure like track & field or cycling might be, and serious athletes train just as hard for just as long. The lack of minimum 40 participating countries currently prevents it from being in the Olympics (like SURFING just made). There are also different forms of twirling that may play into the general bias. Competitive twirling is definitely a sport, but half-time performances by the majorette line or a twirler leading the band in a parade might be considered less Sport and more Performance Art.
