I had no idea I should be hand pollinating!!! I have plenty of bees and butterflies and assumed they'd be doing it. My flowers aren't opening, going to try feeding
If your flowers aren't opening, it's not the pollination. It could be lack of calcium water on balance. I just need some nutrients . I would stick to water schedule every 2 to 3 days depending on the temperature. I would also add fertilizer every two weeks to keep the plant healthy .. The plant is stressed out. Sometimes the flower doesn't open
In subscribing to and following some of your videos & using some tips I have a few Grey Zucchinis starting to appear. They were planted from seed and this is my first time growing them. I also am growing from seed Roma tomatoes and they too are now developing. The two primary tips of yours which made a world of difference was removing the growth on the lower part of the stems and using a 10-10-10 fertilizer. Thank you so much!
I direct sowed some zucchini seeds (3 in a hole) in a raised bed, and they have now germinated. I would like to take one seedling from each hole and transplant to another area where I, unfortunately, lost 2 young zucchini plants overnight. They just wilted and died. What's the best way to remove a seedling so I don't damage the roots of the other ones? Thanks
The best thing to do is the seed one seed For a cell block ( seeding trays or cups ) This way you do not have to separate them and tamper with the roots... And I am very sorry to hear that.. Also when you transplant make sure to do this in the evening time when the sun cools down
My zucchini are turning yellow when they’re still tiny. The flowers aren’t even developed so it can’t be that it wasn’t pollenated. It’s also not vine borers, it’s too early. Calcium issue? Overwatering? I have no idea.
The first order to hear that but you are right on point for calcium and water issues for sure.. . When the plant is under stress it definitely will drop the fruit before even get in a chance to pollinate... Increase your fertilizer and add some extra calcium and try to water on time.. Water every 2 to 3 days ... After you do that, give it some time the plant have to observe the calcium of fertilizer. It will fix your problem...
I have three zucchini now that have a sharp slice in them. They then started turning yellow. The flower had just fell off within a week or so. Is there anything I can do to prevent this? I took a photo but can't upload it. I have moved them to growing vertically.
I'm so sorry to hear that , Could be a couple of reasons , Could be a lack of calcium. Try to increase the fertilizer , keep adding fertilizer every 2 weeks.. Could be your watering is off. If it's under 80° I water every 2 to 3 days. If it's over 80° Water every 1 to 2 days.. .. Simple stuff such as fertilizer and water could cause this problem... Another thing, make sure you have bees in the garden or you will have to hand pollinate them in the morning using a paintbrush...( You take Colin from the male flowers and apply it to the female) An organic fertilizer - amzn.to/3RAckYe (Amazon #ad Organic calcium if you ever need to increase amzn.to/3XwFoE6 (Amazon #ad
Do your plants last for the whole summer in NY, or do you start new seedlings to replace your current plants mid-season? If you do grow new plants, when do you do it?
So these plants will last through the whole summer and I also start planting about another 10 more .. I seeds from Outdoors when it's this hot , the seeds germinate fast .. The only thing we'll take out these plants are the squash bugs or cooler weather in fall time...
