- Reaction To The Best 1980's Australian Songs
This is my reaction to The Best 1980's Australian Songs
In this video I react to Australian music by reacting to Australian songs from the 1980s including AC/DC, INXS, John Farnham, Cold Chisel, Kylie Minogue, Men at Work and more.
Original Video - • Top '80s Hits from Aus...
Where has the time gone? I was just transported back to being a teenager. How can it really be that long ago? The 80s was a great time to be a teen I think. We at the very least had some great music! I'm going to create a playlist of these songs now, lol
I had forgotten half of those songs, we really did have some great singers and bands.
In my opinion, John Farnham has the best voice, closely followed by Jimmy Barnes. Long live 80’s (and 90’s) Aussie music! 🇦🇺💚
Barnsey, Farnsey and Diesel the trifecta of Australian music 🎶. Throw in Cold Chisel and your music playlist is complete
@@lynndally9160 Forgetting Bon Scott?
Couldn't agree more 👍🫡
Go see Jimmy Barnes sing I live he screams
@@JacquelineMartin-q6g I've seen Jimmy Live, multiple times, he does not scream. If you know anything about how the vocal chords work, you'd know that it's impossible to scream with vibrato.
😂😂😂 I'm just about to get ready to head to my local blue light disco
You are taking me through my teenage years with this music.
Angry Anderson, started out with a classic Aussie 70's (76) band Rose Tattoo. They were a hard rocking band out of Sydney. Angry is an Aussie music, TV & movies legend.
A band to check out would have to be "The Skyhooks". The lead guitarist is the one & only Red Symons from TV's Hey Hey It's Saturday. The rude dude with the big ass gong, on Red Faces. The charismatic lead singer Shirley Strawn, sadly died in a helicopter accident. A favourite song of theirs is "Women in Uniform".
Any John Farnham "live" performances are well worth watching.
Also recognise all of those songs, and have seen most of those bands play in concerts or pubs. Goanna, Split Enz, Divinyls, Ice House (flowers), John Farnham, Rose Tattoo, Hunters and Collectors, INXS, AC/DC, LRB and others. My favourite music period.
'The Angels' don't get enough mentions in Australian music greats! Good one to react to is 'Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again!. Watch the live clip with the interaction with the crowd it's gold!!!
Yes! The Angels have a stack of strong, solid instantly recognisable hits. A great live band with Doc Neeson undoubtedly in the top echelon of Lead Singers.
No way !
Get f#######, f### off
😁🤣
Slim Dusty is a LEGEND of Australian Country!!
That nearly made me cry. I miss those days so much.
Split Enz morphed into Crowded House with the brilliant Finn Brothers producing solid music / songs together. Many of these bands started as Pub Bands - performing in bars & small venues. Pure Aussie Rock Music & the live music was surreal. Mental As Anything (aka The Mentals) were a great band to see live & great songs to live on forever.
The only thing is, Split Enz / Crowded House were a New Zealand band, not Australian.
@@BradSimmonds-j7o Bit like Pavlova, Far Lap & many other things
@@matthewbrown6163 Definitely wrong on the Pavlova statement, but NZ is welcome to take Russell Crowe back.
@@BradSimmonds-j7o Sorry mate, Pavlova is still disputed over. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pavlova
@@matthewbrown6163 Only by New Zealand.
John Farnham and sir Tom jones on hey hey it’s Saturday. That’s an iconic moment
Born in 1964, this is a real walk down memory lane - in order, the best Aussie voices from this period are: John Farnham; Bon Scott/Brian Johnson; Olivia Newton-John, Jimmy Barnes. Daylight the rest.
Aww Jon Stevens!! Remember him as Judas in JC Superstar!
Born in 1966 - these were my years - especially the Aussie pub rock scene. Lax age ID requirements to enter licensed premises in those days 😱😁
lol born in ‘64, I was in from age 14! 😂😂
Not sure if you can hear the accent, but both Jimmy Barnes and Colin Hay from Men at Work are Scottish born Australians.
I was a teenager in the 80s, so these songs are the soundtrack to my young years. Best singer? John Farnham. Check out any of his live performances. Blisteringly good voice! Other great songs to check out:
INXS - Don't Change, The One Thing
Black Sorrows - Never Let Me Go
Icehouse - Street Café, Dusty Pages, Don't Believe Anymore
Flowers - Walls, We Can Get Together
Rick Springfield - Affair of the Heart
Midnight Oil - Power and the Passion
Australian Crawl - Reckless, Beautiful People, Things Don't Seem
Divinyls - Boys in Town
Boom Crash Opera - Great Wall, City Flat
Machinations - Pressure Sway, You Got Me Going Again, My Heart's on Fire, No Say in It
Cold Chisel - pretty much anything!
Flowers became Icehouse.
@olgadw4730 I'm aware of that 😊
John Farnham & Jimmy Barns best singers I reckon especially live concerts. The stuff they did together is epic too!
Angry Anderson was in a band called Rose tattoo also the lead singer songs such as Bad boy for love and we can’t be beaten,
Comes across as a real bad arse yet one of the nicest blokes you could meet.
John Archibald Swan OAM, better known as Swanee, is an Australian rock singer. He is the older brother of singer-songwriter Jimmy Barnes.
Mondo Rock... excellent
Summer of '81 and No Time are classics 😊
April sun in Cuba. Dragon was the first live bank I saw that I’d admit to lol free at Mataram festival sitting on huge aboriginal Mandy’s shoulders so I could see , sharing a flagon of Moselle . I was 16 lol good memories, good times.
I thought dragon was from NZ like split enz / crowded house.
@ yep NZ band, based in Sydney
My middle sister's favourite band after ABBA.
1980's was in my teens back then. Best decade ever for nigh everything.
Matt, Colin Hay (Men at Work) and Jimmy Barnes (Cold Chisel) were both born in Scotland!
And the guys from ACDC. And also John Paul Young.
@@1legend517 Australia provided they & their parents relief from the darkness of post WWII Britain & provided opportunity for a much better & brighter future for them as children growing up in Australia. The majority of them, if asked, would probably tell you that they wouldn’t have been able to follow their musical dreams if their families had stayed, mostly in working class, row house terraced industrial towns of England, Scotland or Wales. The fact that Australian born taxpayers heavily subsidised their immigration to Australia should not be forgotten either.
Growing up in the 80s, I really didn’t like a lot of popular music - except for Australian rock. I was really lucky to have seen a lot of bands live at “under 18s concerts” (Festival Hall) where quite a few bands would do short sets.
My absolute favorites were:
Cold chisel
Hoodoo gurus
Divinyls
The Angels
Midnight Oil
And honorable mentions to:
Rose tattoo
The Church 🫢
John Farnham is the best voice I reckon.
My favourites are John Farnham, INXS and mental as anything.
But it's all fantastic music. About the only one I don't like is AC/DC it to hard rock for me. Occasionally I don't mind cranking thunderstruck though.
I love a song from The Screaming Jet's called Better.
We definitely have heaps of talent that comes out of here.
Great video mate 👍🙂
the song by Angry Anderson "Suddenly" was written for kylie Minogue when she played the character Charlene getting Married on the tv show Neighbours
I bloody hated that song 😂😂
Great compilation.
Suddenly - Angry Anderson, was the song played for Scott and Charlene's wedding 😂
😂😂 who the fuck are Scott and Charlene???
Divinlys are worth a listen and reaction. Chrissy Amphlett was one of Australia's treasures and very unique! 'Pleasure and Pain', 'I touch myself ' and 'Boys in Town '. ❤
My teen years and beyond where I could go out to pubs, 1977-1999 lol I’ve seen all the best music
64 now...awesome time to grow up in Australia 🇦🇺
John Farnham..1 Jimmy Barnes.. 2 ❤❤❤ 🇦🇺🦘👏
So many good songs and artists!! I LOVE Jimmy Barnes and Cold Chisel, John Farnham, Ice house, Crowded House, Dragon (Rain is one of my favorite songs ever!), Boom Crash Opera (check out Onion Skin, Dancing in the Storm and The Best Thing ), Hunters and Collectors and I don’t think 1927 gets nearly enough recognition. Their album 1927…ish had some great hits! I’m sure I’ve forgotten heaps but it’s a great start 😉🇦🇺
Great memories, that you so very much and Solid Rock by Goanna, is a brilliant song. Thank you for another legendary vid, Mate.
Angry Anderson was lead singer of the band Rose Tattoo. You might recognise songs "We can't be beaten" and "Bad boy for love". He was also in one of the Mad Max films.
John Farnham is No 1 followed very closely by Jimmy and together it is just power - always watch them live- When Something Is Wrong With My Baby - lots of great music and in the 90s 😂❤🎉
Do ACDC A Long Way to the Top... filmed outdoors. You'll get a nice surprise
The Singer of Men At Work is Colin Hay he is Scottish/Australian so an even bigger reason to look into them mate!
One TH-cam video that is worth watching is-
John Farnham- Your the Voice- ARIA Awards 2003
Just watching him sing it live is so amazing and the crowd interaction.
Choirboys - run to paradise was huge and still is
Aahhh!! 80"s in Oz and NZ was definitely the decade for epic tunes... The nostalgia is real ❤😂
Maybe you could react to one Australian song per week?
my faves from this video:
Daryl Braithwaite - One Summer
Divynals - Boys in Town
Icehouse - Electric Blue
Do Re Mi - Man Overboard
all these songs are fantastic.
I'm going to see Icehouse and Noiseworks play next Saturday 8th Feb on the Gold Coast. They're playing with a bunch of other great Aussie bands from mainly the 90s. It's called the Red Hot Summer Tour if you are interested in checking out the other bands.
I love Icehouse / Flowers
So lucky to be following the pub scene in the 70s and 80s .. we were spoilt for choice and were able to watch the bands develop and transition into the big arenas but you can’t beat the intimacy of the Pubs in those days .. real meaning of the “Pub Crawl”
Makes me so proud to be Australian, when I hear all that music again.
So many to choose from , the most underrated would have to be Hoodoo Gurus .
They have so many good songs start with ' bittersweet '
I was really worried that Hoodoo gurus were going to be missed. Only one song 😮. I reckon they were my favorite at the time.
I was also worried that they'd be left out. I love My Girl - the video was filmed in my local area of inner Sydney.
Man, now I want to listen to all of these songs in their entirety. Some great stuff there! 😄
To me, John Farnham is the best singer/performer in Australia. Love Farnsey 😍❤❤
Pseudo echo did sing that song funky town , it was a cover obvs.
Start your list and react to all. Great time, great tunes, iconic! Enjoy them all.
Angry Anderson was the frontman of Aussie hard rock band Rose Tattoo, he also played Tina Turner's main henchman Ironbar in Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome.
Cold Chisel are the greatest rock band in Australia. You Should do videos for Cold Chisel, Crowded House, Midnight Oil, INXS, Hunters and Collectors Powderfinger, and Silverchair. Powderfinger is my fav Aussie band for sure. They broke up in 2010 and have done one of reunions but have no plan to fully reunite ever. They were huge in Australia and won 18 ARIA awards ( Aussie Grammys). Only 2nd behind Sliverchair, who had the most played song in 1995 on American rock radio.
You have great taste in music! I also love Bernard Fanning solo doing Wish you well. One of my favorite songs 🥰
Divinyls n INXS and the list goes on and on - damn they were good - im still livin in the 80s it was such fun la da di da
Split Enz were a New Zealand band formed in 1972. Regarded as the first New Zealand band to gain significant recognition outside of Australasia. Neil Finn became their co-lead singer and a key songwriter, both alongside his brother Tim. In the spring of 1984, Tim Finn left the band for a solo career. Neil Finn and Paul Hester went on to form a new band called the Mullanes with bassist Nick Seymour. They had changed their name to Crowded House.
Slim Dusty was a Australian Country singer real name is Gordon Kirkpatricl
Age of reason... so worth it.
The musician called "Swannie" is Jimmy Barnes brother. If you listen to a full song, you can definitely hear a similar voice.
5 seconds is not enough to do justice to some of these classic songs.
Icehouse -Electric Blue was big in CANADA
John Farnham as voted by his peers
Pseudo Echo was definitely Australian.
I really wasn’t into Pseudo Echo, but their cover of “Funky Town” was bloody brilliant.
Angry Anderson lead singer of longtime hard rock pub band called Rose Tattoo. He was the last person we expected to be singing the love song for Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan wedding/ Scott & Charlene's wedding on Neighbours.
Mate, have a crack at The Divinyls, proper amazing female rocker Chrissy Amphlett
Just went through all the comments. No one has mentioned Ian Moss! His voice is so smooth and he has many great songs but my absolute favourite is "Tucker's Daughter".
Angry Anderson was lead singer for Rose Tattoo who had a big hit called "We cant be beaten" And Jimmy Barnes is Scottish born like you.
Yes, John Farnham's Age of Reason would be a good one to react to 🤗👏
Jimmy Barnes & john Farnham sung together & they sound even better Sadly John has throat cancer & he might never sing again
Honestly for me Farnsy is Number 1 for male vocals, Barnsy is famous but we call him a screamer. For the Ladies its definitely Judith Durham(The Seekers) Number 1 with Olivia Newtron Bomb a close second. Also Iva Davies and Icehouse don't really get the recognition for the fantastic songs they have produced. Kylie was always bigger in the UK then she was here.
Peter Allen not on the list is unbelievable on of our best international singer song writers....love it if you reacted to his songs
Angry Anderson is the lead singer of Rose Tattoo. The song Suddenly was used for the Scott and Charlene wedding in Neighbours!
Angry Anderson, band, Rose Tattoo, good rock!
The 80s and 90s were the best for me... 🇦🇺 ❤
the 90s was bloody excellent too :)
A lot of bands not in this list…. Cockroaches, choir boys, Johnny diesel and the injectors, radiators.
I loved that. Great memories and I agree the 80s were the best 🎉
Really. 6 seconds of a tune is nowhere near enough to make an opinion.
If 2 seconds isn't enough, you're too young to understand.
@tropicsalt.
Smart fckr. So what 2 seconds do you play ?
The Chorus or a Verse. Do you even know how songs are instantly recognised. Do you know what a Choris or Verse is. I do not think so. Any Musical Training. Any Musical experience. Been in a Band or written Music. Any Musical Certificates or Qualifications that are world recognised.
I had achieved all that by 1971. 17 Y.O.
I was bought up on 1960s onward and know EXACTLY WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT. Grow up from being a Music 'preppy'.
My comment is based on making an OPINION in 6 seconds.
Read it again.
@@tropicsalt.Nah. Know and love the songs- just wanted a couple of seconds extra- especially if they cut off a phrase mid-way.
A number of great Kiwi bands in the mix. Thanks
Splitenz, Dave Dobbin are kiwi bands, but we love em anyway
The Swingers also from NZ I believe. And Jon Stevens (Noiseworks)
before the band were called ice house they were called the flowers look them up the flowers had some big hits before they became ice house
Chrissie Hynde's voice does unspeakable things to me.
My favourites: Divinyls Science Fiction, Boys in Town, Pleasure and Pain,( that was a cheeky one too) as well as, I touch myself, Back To the Wall, Bless my Soul it’s Rock and Roll, In My Life, Good Die Young.
INXS Original Sin, Bitter Tears, Devil Inside, Mystify, Listen Like Thieves, Disappear, I’m melting in the sun, too many to mention with INXS I love a lot of their songs. Their songs are songs that you can listen to today and not feel it’s outdated. Cold Chisel too some of their songs are fire still to this day. Standing on the Outside, too many to mention The latest version of Lay Down Your Guns as Jimmy Barnes solo I heard was redone with The Living End another Aussie band that have some mad songs but they are not from the 80’s they formed in 1994. Damn there were some great songs back in the 80’s and 90’s.
Split Enz...Kiwi. Morphed into Aust Crowded Houseb. Dragon...Kiwi. Moved here
Of course great music came from us we live in the best country in the world great music great beaches great cars and really great people best country by far
10:34 this was the song chosen for the wedding of Scott and Charlene on Neighbours, and Angry Anderson went way against type with this one - he’d been the front man of a heavy pub rock band called Rose Tattoo
Did you recognise John Farnham fronting Little River Band at 11:20
And that is just the start of great 80's Aussie songs......
Icehouse is still my favourite band. Especially thier first few albums. You can't really go wrong with INXS, Midnight Oil, Icehouse, John Farnham, Mental as Anything, Crowded House, Split Enz ... As for Kylie, imo go past all the teeny bopper stuff she started with and head to the stuff she started doing on her own without all the disco production. For me her career started with Breathe.
Angry Anderson is the lead vocalist of the classic Aussie rock band Rose Tattoo. As he's got older he should be referred to as "Mildly Annoyed Anderson".
Always worth reacting to John Farnham, but you should always listen to him live if possible! Age of Reason is a great song, here is a version with John singing it with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra: th-cam.com/video/payUspKYx1A/w-d-xo.html
The 80s feel like a different world.
A lot missing from this; Lime Spiders, Machinations, Birthday Party, Australian Crawl, Choirboys, The Stems, Kids in the Kitchen, Paul Kelly, Black Sorrows, Beasts of Bourbon, Cosmoc Psychos, Kim Salmon and the Surrealists, The Saints, The Hard-Ons etc.
It would be awesome if you reacted to Aussie music!! I would watch!!
John Farnham for best voice, Jimmy Barnes pretty damn good and a Scot by birth. Angry Anderson was front man for a band called Rose Tattoo - angry and volatile as a kid, the "angry" stuck with him. May have heard him before in Mad Max movies. Definitely check out more Barnsey in Cold Chisel. He's still performing, often with wife and kids and in-laws together. Big musical family.
This video only shows a tiny fraction of the music we had here lol
Can't believe this ACDC song didn't make it in that list! It has bagpipes! The original and best singer Bon Scott on the back of a flatbed truck going down a main Rd in Melbourne's City...
th-cam.com/video/g-qkY2yj4_A/w-d-xo.htmlsi=xyqfqzFcg47c58Pa
Just thought about it.. this is 1976 not the 80s lol
Check out an Angel's song called 'Take A Long Line', you'll love it.
Also, Colin Hay of Men At Work is from Saltcoats, Scotland.
Best voice in Australian music
Female - Judith Durham (The Seekers) their best known songs would be in the 60s.
Male - Russell Hitchcock (Air Supply)
My favourite Icehouse song is Walls - that was when the band was called Flowers
The Swingers, Split Enz, Dragon, Dave Dobbyn & Herbs are all New Zealand bands. Split Enz morphed into Crowded House which was formed in Melbourne with two Australian members. Noiseworks was formed in Newcastle with New Zealander Jon Stevens on lead vocals.
2:54 Electric Blue - Iva Davies attained peak mullet for that one
Actully Olivia was born in the UK but grown up in australia
In any era...the best voices in my opinion is Darren Hayes, John Farnham, Guy Sebastian, the lead singer Goo Goo Dolls and Jimmy Barnes etc. for the guys.
For the girls Vanessa Amorosi, Sia, Marcia and Deni Hines, Vika and Linda and Jessica Mauboy etc.
Best voice? That's a hard one! Every singer has a voice to suit their chosen genre. John Farnham does have a fantastic voice, but he would sound all kinds of wrong if he were the lead singer of Cold Chisel.
My favourite is Iva Davies of Icehouse with David Reyne of Australian crawl coming in second.
A bit of trivia for you - The lead singer of Men At Work, Colin Hay, is Scottish as is Brian Johnson of AC/DC.
Also, Swanee (John Swan) is the older brother of Jimmy Barnes.
Angry Anderson was the lead singer of Rose Tattoo.
Fan Fact Mat;
Axel Rose from Guns n Roses was a huge fan of Angry Anderson & his band Rose Tattoo. Axel shaped Guns to be like Rose Tattoo with mentoring by Angry to Axel.
Also apart from Great Southern Land, my other fave song from Icehouse is Miss Devine
