Great song. hehehe
@@gabrielle-k3r Some people would say it's now politically incorrect, but if you listen to the lyrics that's not completely true, plus it was more than 40 years ago. Post Modern Punk !
There's a 2003 movie called Ned Kelly with Heath Ledger (Ned Kelly) and Orlando Bloom (Joe Byrne). It also had Naomi Watts, Joel Edgerton and Geoffrey Rush. Some of it was filmed near my home in Moorooduc on the Mornington Peninsula 1hr south of Melbourne. My dad actually worked on clearing old railway tracks that were used in the movie. I think there was also one made with Mick Jagger (Lead singer of the Rolling Stones) done back in the 1970's.
What’s the best one tho?
@@VivitStudiosIn my opinion,it is the 1980 miniseries. You get to see what Australia was like during the 1800s compared to what you already know with the wild west of America during the 1800s around the same time/era. The 2003 Heath Ledger film is ok but it only pinpoints what is already well known. The miniseries takes a much deeper dive into things. Most of what that guy said in that video,is what is shown on the miniseries. It begins just after Ned Kelly's Father's death & how he was now the man of his family.
Watch Part 1. See how you go with it.
@@VivitStudiosjust watch the Heath Ledger version, as that's more akin to a "Hollywood production" compared to the other stuff that's more like watching a historical documentary.
I came here to say this, thank you.
Also fun fact I think that a version of the Ned Kelly story was the first feature length movie in the history of movies. It will have to be fact checked. But they made it into a movie as soon as it was a thing. 🎥
But I recommend the Heath Ledger version, although I haven't seen it.
But it looks very good. 👍
Oh yeah, forgot to mention Reckless Kelly by Yahoo Serious. But the less said about that the better. It's another example of how loved his story is though. So that's a comedy version.
A lot of our truckies to this day have written on the side of their Rigs- SUCH IS LIFE
There’s not only A movie about the Kelly gang, “The Story of the Kelly Gang” 1906 was the WORLD’s first feature film, so for a hot second it was literally THE movie.
The first full length feature film in the world was made about Ned.
That’s cool man💯
The final shootout scene was filmed at these approx coordinates, -37.814155, 145.194511, in Mitcham, Victoria, 3132.
The border of which, to Nunnawading, is home to the Shuffle Dance, spawned from illegal ravs in the late 1980's (that noobtube doco about Melb ravs wasn't even aware. Before their time).
He wasnt so bad. We love him. We all love Ned. Yeah theres a movie
When I went on a tour of the Old Melbourne Jail they had a death mask of Ned Kelly. Made an actual plaster cast of his face after his death. Really chilling to see it. I think he did what was right by him and his family, even if the law did not agree. Survival in early Australia was tough and it made tough people. Peace and bless from Tasmania 😁
There is also a Ned Kelly movie from 2003 with Heath Ledger that is really good too. Also, his actual wrought iron armour is on display in the State Library Victoria. You can clearly see the the impact dents from the musket balls. Its some pretty crazy stuff.
The first full length movie ever made was about Ned Kelly, sadly no copies survive today but it's another nice chapter in this legends life
There is a 1970 movie starring Mick Jagger - "Such is life" is a common tattoo in Aus.
There is also a Ned Kelly movie from 2003 with Heath Ledger that is really good too.
Classic Movie
Ned and his family for that matter were not perfect or completely innocent, but they were hounded by the authorities and they stood up for themselves. His humiliation after death was unforgivable. I like to think his legend helped form part of the Australian way of being or psyche. We don't suffer fools, tall poppies and most of us like to "push against the p....s"
Must say that one of the most memorable experiences in my life was getting to see the "Kelly Gang" display at the Fremantle Museum when it toured Australia.
I got to see first hand the Jerilderie Letters, the remaining suits of armour, the guns and many many more historical pieces.
But the one that REALLY hit hard was seeing that Green Silk Sash with Ned's blood stains still visible on it. 😮
Heath Ledger did an excellent job in the movie.
The first full feature length film was 'The Kelly Gang's. 🇦🇺👍
Wow, definitely gotta watch it
@@VivitStudiosdunno if its complete though, it was the first feature film ever shot so its pretty old.
@danielponiatowski7368 wow, so that means they made it into a movie as soon as movies were a thing. 😂👍🎥
It's silent of course. Just another addition to the legend of Ned Kelly. It's pretty cool for Australia too, the first full length movie. 😮
Both the heath Ledger, and Mick Jager films are worth a look. For more in depth look The Jerilderie Letter is online. Over 30 pages of the illiterate Kelly, spitting truth. Best novel, Peter Carey's book, True History of the Kelly Gang. It covers much of the lore from Ned's point of view. Written as a letter to his fictional daughter, explaining his actions.
I went and saw the armour on display in Melbourne. Deafening bullet dents in the head piece. Ahead of his time. If he had been a bit more ruthless. A bit less trusting. He might of changed everything. Would he still be Ned Kelly?
As a teenager I did a big project on convicts and most of the people transported were transport to Australia for stealing things like load of bread etc as people were starving. But once they got to Australia most of them stayed in Australia once they did there time. A lot were giving cheap or free land to graze and farm.
they deff were not "given" any land for one, only the wealthy owned land.
even then it was ALL stolen land & remains stolen to this day. Australia is home to the OLDEST Living culture on the face of the planet, my people, the Aborigines have been on this land for more then 60,000 years. White Australia has a Black History as we say, the history you learnt i can guarantee was written by the English crown. the most murderous people on them all.
The actual real story from start to finish would be good.
True History of the Kelly Gang (film) with Russell Crowe is another.
@@epoh8698 Seems like there’s a lot of films and documentaries on this guy
@@VivitStudios Carnt go wrong with Russell Crowe , He wouldnt be in the movie if it was all made up. The ones with russell and heath i dont think u can go wrong
@@VivitStudios yep, this one gives a real feel as to what it was like to be a Kelly then, and the Ledger film I grew up with explains a lot of why he did it and has the best shootout.
The 1970s Jagger film was filmed in a town about 1.5hrs away from Canberra called Braidwood, where I'm living now. The Royal Mail Hotel used to have a Ned Kelly Bar
I've always said that ,money comes money goes,,the most important things in life are free (not food) love, friends, family, memories, sights, smells and life itself
Definitely, can’t make decisions based on money, because that money will go, but that decision doesn’t go away.
I was in Gaol with Ned Kelly, he was still cleaning his monika off the Nick walls beds , SO NEVER WRITE YOUR NAME ON PRISON WALLS FURNITURE ANYTHING YOU'LL HAVE TO COME BACK TO REMOVE IT , DON'T DO IT , PPL ,DON'T DO IT . G'day Ned , you missed a spot , !!!
"Such is life" is part of Aussie culture, a popular windshield sticker, West Coast Eagles legend Ben Cousins had it tattooed. Vick you often say Australians are crazy it's true, we are, why ? it's our 'convict streak'. A well known pub [hotel] band from the early eighties, Dave Warner From The Suburbs, had a song called "Convict Streak" Dave wrote the song and one of the lines went "maybe it's because of our convict streak we want to fight everyone we meet" it's goes on to say "don't you ever say we're weak or you'll learn all about our convict streak" Great video Vick, love your work. Dave's pub sessions were epic and he always played to packed houses, lead guitarist Johnny Leopard always wore leopard skin , fake of course.
I love that line💯 “such is life” is such a cold line💯
Hey, I'm just a Suburban boy , Mate , love ya Muzak, top mention , me inner Melb lad , MICK " i can't get no satisfaction in this tin suit " JAGGER , Prisoner of Mother England ( POM )( POME) plays Mad Irishman( MAD) a term of endearment in Aus) , Ned Kelly in Australia, Need some Emotional rescue, maybe some Brown Sugar , yeah ,
@@Ducatirati Thanks for your reply @Ducatirati, yes Dave Warner was the original suburban boy, for me what made him so popular was the fact that he was one of the first performers to sing about local and Aussie stuff. As well as that he was relatable, quote from Mugs Game... " saturday night you go to the pub, looking for a root, closing time comes around and you're just putting tinnies in the boot ".. paraphrased.

My mother in law's family ran a butcher shop in the 1800's where Ned Kelly was a regular trying to sell beef/sheep carcasses for cash.
They obliged in the sense that they could get beef/mutton much cheaper from Ned than through the normal markets themselves! 😂
Yeah…Ned just “found them”…🤔🤫😀
Neds hero was the greatest bushranger of them all, Bold Ben Hall.Although Ben was not as ingenious as Ned, he was more spectacular. He captured an entire town
They traveled, around,,,a limited amount of country,,,they were not real, big, adventurers but ,Australia, was a WILD COUNTRY,
The guy telling the story about Ned is really butchering the pronunciation of names and places!
BTW, Ned’s an Aussie hero.
I loved watching this with you, honestly I live in Australia and we learnt somethings about good old Ned Kelly during school but watching this video taught me so much more. They should play this to teachers so they can teach kids more about Ned Kelly, or just play this video to the class.

I love Ned Kelly, a fight for the little people, a hard life of responsibility from age 12, literate in the age of mass iliteracy, he stood up to corruption and fought injustice! 😍👍😪 Nothing like that crazy psychopath! 🤨
@@jenniferharrison8915 he stood up to the bullies, that’s all police do.
@@VivitStudiosI wonder how much they promoted the movie about it in the USA. 🤔
I'm thinking that it was not promoted.
But Heath did a movie about a gay cowboy so I don't think that he cared about being popular.
@@VivitStudios He stood up to what Americans would call big ranchers, land grabbers, greedy administrators, corrupt police, religious and social persecution - and there was an enquiry held into the police afterwards to change this situation! He was only 25 when he died!
Ned Kelly was a horse thief and murderer. Nothing more.
G'day, The first feature length movie ever made was about Ned Kelly, There have been several movies and documentries about him. Ned was no doubt a killer, however the Police of that time were also no angels. As for the "snitch" issue, The friends don't let each other kill people or rob them.
Currently police aren’t no angels either
Theres a movie with heath ledger as Ned a must watch @@VivitStudios
Mick Jagger played Ned in one movie where, on set, a gun misfired and injured his hand. There have been a few Ned Kelly movies as he is an iconic Australian figure in history and culture.

@@VivitStudios Neither of them
@alexradojkovic9671 I think there has been 4 or more movies and a mini series. I have not seen them all like you have.
@VivitStudios I saw the Mick Jagger one from the 70s. But I think there was one with heath ledger from the 2000s. There are older ones going back to the silent era.
The world's first full length feature film was "The Story Of The Kelly Gang".A silent movie
We learned all of this in our history lessons in school. Never forget this story when I first heard it sitting in class and how fascinated I was listening. We only learned “cliff notes” so to speak cause we were only 10yrs old at time 😂😂
I think u can tell by many of the comments Ned was beloved by Aussies prob then & def now.
There have been several movies about Ned Kelly. The most recent from the early 2000's called "Ned Kelly" starring Heath Ledger and Orlando Bloom. You can find it just about anywhere. It covers just about everything included in this video.
The first ever feature film in the world was about the Kelly gang, unfortunately only a few frames survive as it is now well over 120 years old.
Scence then 3 movies about the Kelly gang have been made one with Mick Jagger as Ned Kelly & every Australian at the time hated it, because Mick Jagger was a pommy playing an Aussie
@@stanleywiggins5047 he'd be playing an Irish man, wouldn't he?
Seen the end. You're in. Victorian outlaw certificate granted. 😉🤘👍
Hahah😂 you know I love the craziness man😂
My ancestors were Irish convicts too - shipped over on English fleets & placed in the great Aussie penal colony, just like Ned Kelly’s lot. Tough stock, no doubt about it. My great-great-great-grandmother was one of the first in Australia to crack the big 1-0-0, nearly making it to 110 & apparently sharp as a tack the whole way. Lived on her own after her husband passed, regularly fended off spear-throwing Aborigines & even knew Ned himself. Wouldn’t be surprised if they had a yarn or two about their shared heritage!
Alot of Aussies have a Ned Kelly wanted poster or statue .and lots of different Ned Kelly things ..could be a lamp or a mug ..pritty much every gift type thing one or multiple in their house, garage ,garden .
I’d love to have one of those posters💯
@VivitStudios they are made out of sheet metal.not paper.
@@VivitStudiosIt’s not uncommon to see letterboxes (especially in rural areas) in the form of Ned Kelly’s armour. Mail is delivered through the slot in the face shield.
Not only is there a movie about it, there are several, but the first feature film ever made was about the Kelly gang. Simon didn't go into detail but there was another factor that should have been mentioned which helps explain why a bunch of criminals had such public support. In the time when Ned was growing up a class of wealthy land holders, called Squatters, were influencing the way that policing occurred. They were the upper class of regional Australia and held immense sway over politics and law enforcement. The police would often do their bidding instead of ensuring justice occurred. The Kellys and their supporters had been on the receiving end of some poor treatment in this regard, and it tainted their opinions of the police.
There was also a movie made in the early 70's that has Mick Jagger playing Ned Kelly
There's a movie called Reckless Kelly, in which Yahoo Serious plays a fictional version of Ned Kelly, and it will probably appeal to a lot of American people, since it's a good part of it take place in America.
Australia's first Bush Ranger was a Black man.
Damnn! Now I gotta look more into it. Wtf
If the cattle is marked it belongs to the owner. Possession is not 9 tenths of the law in Australia or Britain. It is the responsibility of the one who find it is responsible for its safe return.
The movie is Ned ,with Heth leger😊
It's a terrible movie.
"On Boxing Day 1906 The Story of the Kelly Gang opened at the Athenaeum Theatre in Melbourne. It was the first multi-reel, feature-length film ever produced in the world. The film caused controversy by presenting the Kelly gang sympathetically." From Wikipedia.
There's a Mini series called ' The Last Outlaw ', that's the one to watch. Also you should check out Ben Hall, he never shot anyone, he did pull off the biggest stagecoach gold robbery though.
i dont think we had any crazy bushrangers in WA but we did have moondyne joe.
his specialty was escaping when he got caught.
they put him to work bashing rocks at fremantle prison where he did such a great job he had a big pile rocks stacked up near the wall. when they couldnt see him they could hear him bashing away until they could do neither. he hammered his way through the wall and buggered off.
he escaped a few more times after being caught until they built him a special cell at freo, its lined with railway sleepers or something, thick jarrah anyway.
you can see it today if you go there.

Ned and his family, being Irish, were always at odds with the English overlords running the country. It is for this reason the the native aboriginal people, who were also at odds with the English, as they had invaded their country, looked on Ned as some kind of hero and was highly regarded by them. His legend lives on in Aussie culture to this day!

6 hours???😂😂
Now you can see why he’s an Aussie folk hero
Definitely💯
@@VivitStudios There are probably a few reasons why he had sympathisers, one that a lot of people would have had not long before had convict links/family etc, and his family were of Irish decent, Irish and Scots weren't liked by the British and were often targeted unjustly. It didn't take much to be sent to Australia as a convict, petty theft was amongst it, could be a little as a handkerchief or a loaf of bread, and in the 1700s and early 1800s stealing at a worth of 5 shillings (which is around $25USD in today's value) or more would be cause for sentencing to a death penalty. Those that were fortunate had their sentences commuted to transport and labour in the colonies, though some may have not thought that was fortunate due to the length of time stuck in a convict ship to Australia, and the labour they were entrenched in once in Australia. Some managed to survive both the transport and their time in convict penal life before coming free to settle in the British colonies of what is now Australia.
Beeeeveridge 😂😂😂😂😂
There is also a older version of a movie about the Kelly gang starring Mick Jagger from the band rolling stones
Someone said it’s from the 70s I believe
On my mothers side we had a woman transported to Australia for stealing a coat. She was also shackled to the deck for bad language. Her future husband was being transported to the USA but at the last minute get moved to the Australian transport ship. So I am Australian. Cheers.
My Great Aunt was Honour Heart. She married Glenn Owen. The first member of the Kelly gang killed at the Glenrowan hotel shootout.
Mad respect my brother I saw the stairway roll straight up convict stock😅🤠😎😈😇😘
He was , 100% a patriot
This story is the reason why I think they should’ve had an Australian DLC for RDR2 as the bush rangers were pretty much like bandits. It didn’t even have to be set in Australia but follow an Australian ex convict who had done his hard labour but didn’t have much to work with so he does enough of jobs here and there to get enough money yo make it to America
You could have been sent to Australia from the UK for stealing an apple.
That’s crazy, crazy thing is you will be known as a “convict”🤦🏿♂️
Or a loaf of bread or a silk handkerchief. Poor buggers
Not true.only those with trades were transported some women to act as comfort women.
The very first movie made in the world was Australian and it was based on Ned Kelly. It was black and white and no sound. Hollywood came much later.
I live smack bang in the middle of Ned Kelly Country...only 30 k away from where he robbed the bank at Euroa and 18 k from where Lonigan the first policeman shot at Stringybark Creek was based (Violet Town). Some of my friends are descendants of some of the sympathisers plus I sometimes talk to some of Ned's descendants. Joe Byrne is buried in Benalla which is 45 k away from here and Glenrowan, site of the last stand is another 20 or k north of Benalla. Greta is not that far from Glenrowan and halfway between Benalla and Wangaratta on the Kilfeera Road/Greta Road. Yes, there are several movies about Ned Kelly but I prefer the Channel 7 four part mini series (2 hours each) called The Last Outlaw starring John Jarrott who later on starring in the Australian horror Wolf Creek.
I love to see all these places man
When I went to the place of the shoot out it was on a vancont house block across the road of the railway line and with houses all around. Oh yeah I forgot to tell you that the armer suite is at The State Library of Victoria and you can see that at any time

Whilst you may laugh at “Red” Kelly being sent out to Australia just for stealing some pigs, my great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandmother was sent out with the First Fleet for stealing 5 shillings, sooo…..
And they were sent to Australia because you lot had a War of Independence so they couldn’t send their convicts to America anymore. So thanks for that, otherwise I’d have turned out to be American and not Australian. Bonza, mate!

Ned Kelly is an Aussie Legend. Im pro Ned & feel sorry for him and his family - they didn’t deserve all that they got. I’ve stood beside the gallows in old Melbourne Gaol & the feeling of sadness is overwhelming. As a 10 year old kid that feeling cemented my dislike for the law - a dislike that has been unwavering since then. Sure there are some good ones - I’ve met ONE.
