Hi everyone and welcome back to a new Myanmar vlog. This is our second vlog from beautiful Hpa-An. We really recommend you going there if you're heading to Myanmar. So worth it and still very untouched. If you like what wse're doing don't forget to leave us a thumbs up and please leave us a comment. We LOVE comments! And yeah, subscribe of course if you haven't already. Love you guys! 🙏😀
The paste is called Thanaka and is made from a tree bark mixed with water. It's got multiple uses, such as sunblock, skincare, makeup, acne treatment . Glad you enjoyed the video. In the next one we're hitchhiking to the former capital Yangon, but there will be another video on Wednesday as well in which we talk about what we like and don't like about Thailand. Have a wonderful week and see you in the next one. 🙏😊
We've been to Mexico several times and each time explored a different part of the country. The Yucatan peninsula, Mexico City, Campeche,, Palenque and Oaxaca with a side trip to Guatemala. Although we walked or bussed everywhere there were times that people stopped to offer us rides. We have not hitch hiked though I'm sure its possible. We found the public transportation to be adequate for us. There are places near Tulum where there are campgrounds near the ruins and in the reserve. We're looking forward to our next trip, this time to the Mazunte Hualtulco area.
We're sure hitchhiking in Mexico is super easy, in fact we know people who've hitchhiked there in the past and we're really looking forward to going there in the future and do a some hitchhiking. Best way to meet locals. We use public transport when leaving big cities, as hitchhiking out of major cities is close to impossible or when we're going areas where there might not be any traffic at all. Thanks for sharing info about Mexico and thanks for watching! 🙏
Lovely vlog guys! Also about the food how it tasted like Karen food, most of the people around the Hpa An area are of Karen ethnic as the region is also in Karen state so many people will speak Karen as well especially the people in the temples and villages!
Yes the people we met were definitely Karen. We knew it already when we saw them as we've volunteered with Karen and Karenni youth who are refugees in Thailand. It was nice to try the food as well and experience those familiar flavours. Thanks so much for watching and leaving a comment. 🙏
Awesome video. Absolutely one of your best. Myamar must be an amazing place to visit. We've been watching your vlogs since May. We just got back to the states from a three month Mexico trip mid April and already had the wanderlust. Your channel has been keeping the wanderlust in check. Thanks so much for posting. We always look forward to your next adventure. Mari we hope your back problem resolves.
Thanks so much!!! It's amazing when you get comments like this one. We're small on TH-cam and sometimes all the hard work seems for nothing but thanks to subscribers like you we keep making videos. Much love to you guys! 🙏😊
Thanks guys! Yeah it is an incredible country with amazing people! You guys were in Mexico? Where did you visit and what did you like the most? We are considering going there soon and would love to hear your opinion! Yeah, Malin's back problems are a little better now but still not 100%, thanks for asking! Have a great week and see you in the next one!
I recently went back to Myanmar and been to the place you guys went to! It sure was so quite and peaceful. I’ve never comment on anything on TH-cam but I have to say that you guys are awesome! I’m so glad you guys know about the ethnic group of Karen, not so many foreign people knows about it.
Thank you so much! It is nice that you managed to visit this beautiful place, we really loved it! We know a lot about the ethnic groups in Myanmar as we have volunteered in Mae Hong Son in North West Thailand with refugees from Myanmar. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I enjoy watching Your travel vlog's and videos. The eastern countries are fascinating*, I like it when You meet people-it's interesting. Good travels, An American, now residing in Jamtland*
Hej!!! How did you end up in Jämtland? Yes, this part of the world is indeed interesting and Myanmar is still very authentic compared to other SEA countries. So happy we went there. Meeting locals is such an important part of travelling and we do a lot as we often hitchhike and we're not scared to sit down and have a chat if we're approached by locals or in this case, invited to try some food. Thanks a lot for watching and see you i the next one. 🙏
You're welcome! We had an amazing time in Myanmar. We're back in Thailand but there will be many more videos from Myanmar in the comming weeks and we really hope you will enjoy them. Have a wonderful day. 🙏
Im from the US. Love the videos. Allows me to see places Ive never seen before. Probably never will see but online. Im not as daring as I would be worried about the finances and sustenance. I live in Wild wonderful Almost heaven West Virginia. We dont need much. Can do attitudes. Though I can live on next to nothing. My wife cant. Smile. So thus not as adventurous as you two.
Hi Scott! Thanks so much for taking time to comment on our vlog. We are super cheap when we travel. In 2017 we hitchhiked 23,000 kilometres from Thailand to Spain and spent about 2000 Euros between us and we could have spent less. We like camping and sometimes we stay with local people for free. When we are in South East Asia we spend a bit more because camping is trickier and in Myanmar for example, foreigners can't stay with locals after 9 p.m. or something like that. You live in the US, it's a big country and so much to see right? Travel close by, create your own adventures. Thanks for watching and hope to see you here again. 🙏😀
Yeah, you should go. It's such a beautiful place and still not so developed like other SEA countries. So may amazing places to visit. In the video next Sunday we're hitchhiking to the former capital Yangon, so stay tuned for that. Thanks again for watching! 🙏
True things do add up but paying a few £/$ to keep these places open and running smoothly I think is a nice way to give back to the community. As long as it doesn't get crazy expensive.
We do agree but in Myanmar it's different because the money doesn't very often go to taking care of these places but straight to the military government. And the caves and the temples are places of worship and should therefore be free and there are hardly any tourists around Hpa-An yet anyway. One example is the famous Bagan. Tourists have to pay 17 USD each to enter the region of Bagan for a maximum of 3 days and only 2 % goes towards taking care of the temples, the rest goes straight to the military government. We managed to not pay that as we found a way not to as we don't want to support corruption. You've got a point though, but it's also important to know where you're money goes. 🙏
@@TimezoneJunkies I am a Native Burmese , planning to start a tour business and learning at the moment . I'd say you are 50% right , because the money does not go to taking care of these places or to military. These religious places do not need to take any fee from foreigner to run smoothly because Myanmar is number one country in the world in the view of donating money. If you feel a religious place or a pagoda is visiting by many locals , just believe that the place already have enough money to run . These fee may go into the pocket of religious leaders at that place (not monk ,person managing the religious place) because such places automatically have donors when they announced to build something new or to do festivals. And many local donate to these places when they visit. And for Bagan , you must* give 25000 MMK entrance fee because it is an archaeological zone . That fee do not go to government because government do not take any tax from such fund , so there is no way these money goes to military or to government . In Bagan, while famous temples and pagoda like Anandar temple and Shwezigon pagoda have millions of budget fund (in USD) , only few people donate to other thousands of small pagoda and temples . So entrant fee is necessary to maintain the zone . Military is still part of the government , right . But they already sold everything in the country ,like world's largest jade mine ,Hpakant-almost every jade stones go to china ,no one know who got how much tax . World's famous ruby valley ,Moegok-almost every expensive ruby go to china ,no one know who got how much tax. World's hardest Burmese teak go to china ,no one know who got how much tax. All natural gas from Kyaukphyu,Rakhine go to china ,no one know who got how much tax. And even the Irrawaddy river , they sold it to China before the election . My point is that they won't care a few bucks from tourists . So please don't say that "Money goes to military government" , I hate the military government more than my own shit but you all need to stop saying that because the money that goes to government will go to military , but money you paid in religious place will not go to military . I am not sure if the religious leaders put in their own pocket as I said above , but not into military. One more thing , in Myanmar, Military is military ,government is government. Thanks
Hey AD 3000! Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment on our video! Starting a tour company is a brilliant idea, Myanmar is going to become a massive destination in the next 10 years we think! Not sure where to or what to start replying to haha! Let's start with the Ruby, Jade and teak trading. Yeah, we heard about this from one of our hotel owners. She showed us pictures of big trucks that came from China and where they filled up with dirt and soil and transported it back to China for sorting whilst the locals looked on bemused. Apparently the Chinese have armed guards with them. Crazy situation! We feel so sorry for the locals who are having their landed abused and getting nothing for it whilst the Chinese companies make rediculous money. About the government and military. I think lots of tourists think the same as us because it has been reported by many different sources. Here is the first one we found when we searched on google: www.mmtimes.com/lifestyle/travel/19353-entrance-fees-bypass-bagan-temples.html The whole situation is so hard to comprehend and the history is so complex. Sometimes when people ask us about it we start trying to explain the history but end up telling them to find out themselves! It goes so far back. What we do hope for is a peaceful future for all of the people of Myanmar. Everyone was so nice to us and the smiles we received were all so genuine! Thanks again for watching and we hope you enjoy the upcoming videos! Have a great week!
Just in case if you come back again , you can have free meal there kyut-kat-latt pagoda on the rock Its just beside the pagoda on the right and they feed you almost 24aday

Hey! Sorry we are back in Thailand. We went there in Nov/Dec last year (behind on our vlogs!). It would have been great to have met up though for sure! Where are you and what are you filming? Have fun!!!
In Hpa-An there are actually no e-bikes available so they rent out motorbikes everywhere to tourists and it's not a problem. It will probably change when this area becomes more touristy as in for example Bagan. But atm motorbikes are the only option for tourists to get around if they want freedom and not be depended on a Tuk tuk to take them around. Thanks for watching.
