The audience participation at the Garden could not have been a greater demonstration that there is much love for the Roses on this side of the pond. Angels wept.
What a great post james 👏 many good bands from England never made it over the pond and any bands dream is to play the garden in NYC and what a f***ing atmosphere 👏
Totally agree, if u really watch his movements, un freegin real mon, the speed is neo matrix speed. Chills utter chills, The Stone Roses actively playing, the world is a better place!!!!
If that's the best drumming you've ever seen then you can't have watched many bands. watch Neil Peart from rush do his solo or nick mason on pink floyds live in pompei..
I've heard this song thousands of times and it wasn't until I went to this gig that i realized what that little shout at the end of the record was- at 7:09 you see/hear Reni shout "MANI!!!"- and I gotta say, gives me fucking chills man. One of the greatest bands of our time, these guys
To those replies comparing them to other musicians or saying Reni sings better than Ian or plays bass better than Mani totally miss the point. They all gelled together & made magic, end of!
An indy band from from 20 years ago can still sell out MSG. It shows how starved we are for good music these days. I'm so thankful I grew up in the late 80's and early 90's. What a time for music.
Don't get me wrong. I love the Stone Roses, but "best band that Britain ever produced"? Their entire discography is two LP's & a handful of singles. They're at least a half dozen bands in Manchester alone that are better.
Eric Bush hahahahaha there is not 6 bands better than the stone roses never mind Manchester bands. Their music is timeless and can appeal to anyone thats exposed to it, surreal band
From what I've read in various comment sections on the net & people I've spoken to, Reni seems to be quite highly rated but each to their own perception. ;-)
The Roses surpassed any fans' expectations at the Garden. Truly a phenomenal show. My favorite parts were Waterfall/Don't Stop and Made of Stone... All four members at the top of their game and Reni is simply out of this world!!
to be really honest, i think thats the best i have heard them since they reformed, i didn't realise they had a following in the states..thank you to the uploader
They don't have a huge following over here. I'd think maybe 50% of the fans (including myself) there had traveled from all over America for it, if they did a tour (longer than 1 show) over here they'd never sell out a 20K arena. Bands like Oasis and The Smiths might (but they're broken up). That said, amazing fucking show.
i just find it odd that in the UK they don't play with such fire and emotion ...it seems to me that in the US they mean it or have something to prove well, it looked like a great show, better than the UK ones
thekenzosh I am so freaking pleased you guys felt the amazing vibes. The Roses do it like no other. I'm still high from Manchester Etihad on June 19th. I hope we get more indoor venues as the Garden. The Mecca of rock n roll. Have it big time, New York!!
Never underrated amongst fans, never have a more talented group of people come together to make a noise that will resound for generations, because they are the outright best of a kind. Twenty years (or so), on and off, still sound brilliant. Beyond a shadow of a doubt top top band, best ever Brit? one of the worlds best? arguably. But lets not argue, just listen to the roses and Enjoy.
Reni's drumming is unbelievable- I've watched this video 20 times plus and still am just blown away by his ability - I am a massive Dave Grohl/John Bonham fan... Reni is up there with them both. Makes it look so effortless!
I bought a Tele off John, it's a 70's Cabranita. He used to live close to us and got on with my dad who also played. Saw them at Spike island, Leeds Country Club and Eaton Park a few years ago.
many years ago I was hitch hiking and John Squire & his mate picked me up, they were off down to Wales to start doing work on the 2nd album, we didn't chat much about the roses, but when we did John said Reni was the backbone of the band, musically speaking; and that he was the best musician out of all of them, he said he played bass better than Mani, sung better than Ian and played guitar better than himself. He said if it hadn't been for Reni they would of never been anything. probably not true, but it was how he saw it at the time.
I know a couple of lads who used to roadie for them and when they had the chance to reform they wouldn't do it without Remi. According to it he was the best musician of the band. And that's coming from John Squire! God bless the Roses... they were my sound track to my youth xxx
I remember this time, it was the SEcond coming which was recorded in my home town ( Rockfield Monmouth) in 1994 we always used to go to the studio after the pub and see who was there, met so many people there. One day we drove up and John was on his mountain bike we were all metallers and goths but huge fans , he just balanced on his bike staring at us staring at him i think he came off the bike not long after that. I went there a year later when another band were there and read the guest book it was full of great artists and their words. Stone Roses included....
@Wideye He is a great singer, he probable could play bass better than Mani and John was being generous and very modest when he said he could play lead guitar better than him. He couldn't.
So beautiful, and so lovely and emotional at the end. MSGARDENS. 1 north American show. Greatest debut of all time. Resurrection is a perfect masterpiece
f*ck they're good! We all know Reni is a groove god and that his backing vocals are the Roses secret weapon - but Squire makes it look effortless doesn't he? Those are some of THE coolest, most melodic guitar lines he's spilling out without even breaking sweat!!!! Also props to Ian looking and sounding like the OG he is..... if you've been with them along time you'll know how emotional that was to see them together like that at the end
You've not come across many drummers then, There are Jazz drummers out there that wipe the floor with him. That's not to say I think he's bad, far from it.
Songwriting aside it's clearly Reni that brought this band to the next level in term of musicianship. He is one of kind. Goodluck to the one that will have to replace him if he is out of the next reunion.
Mani was on the same plane as me for the 2008 champions league final in Moscow. The man is a legend.... bass player and ultimate United fan. Best SR song IMHO.
When I hear Reni on the drums, as good as the bassist and guitarist is, Reni seems to be on a higher level with his drumming skills. I put him up there with Stewart Copeland of The Police, my all time favorite drummer. The Stone Roses has always been one of my favorite bands. It amazes me how that first album by them continues to grow in legacy. If you could be in the music hall of fame with just one album, this would be the group to do it and it would be well deserved.
All the comments about squire being a great guitarist (true) I think we forget what a brilliant writer he is. I’ve been into the roses since 89 (I’m 47 now) and I can still put on a roses vid with lyrics and be fascinated at the visions and situations he managed to melodically put on paper, also at times I find it pretty funny how he can put such spiteful cold words to such pretty indie pop tunes “your a no one, nowhere washed up baby who would look better dead” for example lol, I find the art he is doing today also in the same theme. One of those annoying people that are just bloody good at everything! Pretty sure if he got into tennis as a kid he would of won Wimbledon 🙄
Jumped at the chance to see them when I heard they were coming to NYC. They were KILLING it the entire show. Please come back! Great to be able to re-play, bravo steveo
Squires looking so fuckin kool as fuck....so late 80's early 90's.....youths of today have nothing on him....my hair is nearly there which I'm proud of since I'm 51....keep on groovin....
Monster players. Everyone just destroys. They also all look cool as fuck. John with the hair, Mani looking cool AF, Reni's hat, Ian's rockstar cool. Amazing performance. Maybe better than the heyday because they're sober (I'm assuming)
This for me, is up there as one of greatest songs in history
Yeah it's up there.
The audience participation at the Garden could not have been a greater demonstration that there is much love for the Roses on this side of the pond. Angels wept.
Brilliant to see them play New York and the American crowd having it too god bless the Roses.
What a great post james 👏 many good bands from England never made it over the pond and any bands dream is to play the garden in NYC and what a f***ing atmosphere 👏
“Dont be sad its over, be happy it happened “🍋
The album has been my whole life’s soundtrack. I was 18 when it came out and here we are in 2019 and it’s still the best album ever
Totaly agree!!
I concur
Ian brown sounds better here than he does in the decades before
21 now and it still stands up👍
Me toooooooo from Japan! I was 18 then, and still so am I with them.
Reni playing like he has four arms. Best drumming I've ever seen.
I totally agree. I kept watching Reni more than anyone else to be honest. Absolutely brilliant drumming.
Totally agree, if u really watch his movements, un freegin real mon, the speed is neo matrix speed. Chills utter chills, The Stone Roses actively playing, the world is a better place!!!!
he has four arms...no?
If that's the best drumming you've ever seen then you can't have watched many bands. watch Neil Peart from rush do his solo or nick mason on pink floyds live in pompei..
Lee Guest reni plays drums like Jimmy Hendrix played guitar...
I was there and almost cried when they all embraced. they looked genuinely happy to be together again playing for us. I'll never forget it
Rob Puzycki me too
Its amazing what money does. It was still geet canny like .
They really did. Even Brown and Reni hugged despite the falling out they apparently had previously at the Amsterdam show and in the recording studio
So agree! You wish they could keep that feeling and march on and still be a band to this day. The Stone Roses were an incredible band.
What can I say...it’s the sheer power of music man! ✌️
I've heard this song thousands of times and it wasn't until I went to this gig that i realized what that little shout at the end of the record was- at 7:09 you see/hear Reni shout "MANI!!!"- and I gotta say, gives me fucking chills man. One of the greatest bands of our time, these guys
When on the record does he shout it?
Reni has got to be the most coordinated human being on the planet
Totally agree.
Alan wren. Quite possibly one of the best drummers ever
Waited 23 years, literal dream come true!!!!!!
Me too, man, So worth the wait.
Why doesn’t squire get the recognition he deserves he should be up there with all the greats
He is quite widely regarded as the best guitarist of his generation.
I think in guitar cycles of all generations he is considered one of the greats
To those replies comparing them to other musicians or saying Reni sings better than Ian or plays bass better than Mani totally miss the point. They all gelled together & made magic, end of!
are you kidding? he's always considered top indie guitarist of all time
Squire and Frusciante are top guitarists on my list!
words cannot describe how much I love the stone roses and what they've meant to me over the years...and this just sums it up.....
VanishingPoint77 are you also a fan of primal scream
Ditto mate :)
An indy band from from 20 years ago can still sell out MSG. It shows how starved we are for good music these days. I'm so thankful I grew up in the late 80's and early 90's. What a time for music.
Ian, Mani, Reni & John!....get this NYC show out on DVD now! They never sounded better!!!
David Brown it's because Ian is actually singing instead of shouting all 4 sound great
Absolute masterclass from The Roses. Perfection. Reni and Squire just jamming for 4/5 mins. Incredible.
Shout out for John Squire on guitar - VERY underrated! Marvelous player!!
IMO John Squire is the greatest guitarist nobody's ever heard of (outside of us Roses fans).
VERY true and VERY underrated!! He's BRILLIANT!!!!! @@michaelportaro6926
And that Ladies and Gentlemen is why 'The Stone Roses' are the best band that Britain ever produced.
Jonathan Dunseath E V E R
Yep. After The Beatles and The Smiths.
Don't get me wrong. I love the Stone Roses, but "best band that Britain ever produced"? Their entire discography is two LP's & a handful of singles. They're at least a half dozen bands in Manchester alone that are better.
@@ericbush3399. Lol. My apologies sir. I love the band. Must have got caught up in the hype of listening to them. 🙂
Eric Bush hahahahaha there is not 6 bands better than the stone roses never mind Manchester bands. Their music is timeless and can appeal to anyone thats exposed to it, surreal band
John Squire and Reni are so good it's unreal.
Reni most unrated musician we ever. Holyshit
From what I've read in various comment sections on the net & people I've spoken to, Reni seems to be quite highly rated but each to their own perception. ;-)
He's highly rated by most.
But always gotta be an "underrated" comment on a TH-cam video.
The best bit is after allowing the crowd so sing the first bit of the chorus, Ian steps in and sings the second bit and simply blows them away.
baldragonmods The crowd correctly pausing before belting out "like" is ace too!
I think that is the only part of the lyrics I remembered correctly, and it took me a few listens to get it right.
Reni is a magician!
Bobbical he’s a drummer, not a magician mate
He's a magical drummer!
The Roses surpassed any fans' expectations at the Garden. Truly a phenomenal show. My favorite parts were Waterfall/Don't Stop and Made of Stone... All four members at the top of their game and Reni is simply out of this world!!
Without doubt one of the greatest 10 minutes of music ever to appear on TH-cam, OUTSTANDING ! ! !...
try 1989 it was better
The greatest band in the world.....never to be replaced either
to be really honest, i think thats the best i have heard them since they reformed, i didn't realise they had a following in the states..thank you to the uploader

It's the magic of the Garden
The Mecca of Rock & Roll....
Vinny Roxx 1st time I think I've heard Ian sing this on note. Fucking amazing instrumental at the end too! long live the Roses 😆
This song and the audience participation was one of the most thrilling experiences I ever had at a live show
Different class
And listening today, it still gives me chills
never thought I would get the chance to see The Stone Roses after moving to America. What an unforgettable expereince
This show was OUTSTANDING. I am still high off of it
Ian Brown is the most chilled-out, laid back, cool as F&^K frontman ever
seriously. best night!
so worth the wait. i am still high from it

What a drummer
Reni is the greatest drummer. He makes it look so easy & is sooooo cool
I can't believe I just discovered them while doing research on Oasis's influences. Totally incredible .. hypnotic album ... read their bio
Other way round stone roses influenced oasis
I also agree totally, best drummer I've ever seen.

thrashed this album (cassette) when it came out still holds up one of the greats
Nothing better than the crowd singing the chorus.!! Hairs standing up!!
God damn these boys are some musicians!!!!!!! Amazing!!! 😍
Best show I’ve seen on TH-cam from the reunion shows. They are all in the moment. Brilliant.
reni is the man no question about it
Squire = guitar god.
and you were right 2 say that
Squire=God...Marr=Holy Ghost

The greatest song of all time performed to perfection
This is great. Pretty triumphant. Very happy to see them show the genuine love they have for each other.
Absolutely fregging amazing..... Classic. Xxxxxx
Did Reni drop a quarter note to say he was through ?
I consider Reni to be the best drummer since Bonzo.

Thanks Steve for posting. The Stone Roses forever! Ian, Reni, Mani and John. Best version of Resurrection ever!
Reni shows time after time that he's the best drummer in the world Unfortunately not always when the rest of the Roses need him.
Brilliant take! Reni smashed it again!
