Whhhaaaatt??? Totally had my bet on the air stone container. Great job busting the myth, Jimmy B!

lettuces are a pond-like plant they like to be waterlogged and when they produce oxygen they put it into the water and directly dissolve it for its self to use I think what happened is that the bubbles disturbed the roots and jiggled them around and reduced growth.

this is a good data point but there are other factors like seed quality that could be an explanation for this too. To confirm what you suggest, more plants are needed on both sides. If you did 6 each and had the same result, keeping all the other factors the same, that setup will have much higher confidence.

I wonder if by making a hole big enough for the air to get in on the one without the pump would produce a better result?

Makes me wonder why anyone would go through the trouble of the air stone. Have you discovered or learned of any scenario where you think it would be beneficial?

Different plants react differently to the aeration. Some plants do well with it, but its never really necessary. Ive seen comparisons with peppers that put out bigger fruits with aeration

02:36 airstone on a timer for 6 seconds every minute. Perhaps that's the problem. Not enough time to aerate the nutrient.

Any time adding an air stone should be better than 0 time with an air stone. It doesn’t really make sense to think the air stone only works if it’s on 100% of the time

@@JimmyBHarvests From what I've read, plants grown with the Kratky method develop roots in the continuously increasing air gap in the container as the water level decreases to uptake oxygen. Perhaps the 6 seconds a minute of air confused the plant to not adapt as many roots to uptake oxygen as well as not being enough. As an air breather myself, 6 seconds of air a minute is far from enough lol

@@JimmyBHarvests But cool experiment. I totally thought the well developed plant was the one with the air stone.

I think to properly test it like this you would have to test 5 plants with the air stone and 5 without. The reason being if what if that 1 plant had genetic problems. It's not the size difference but the color difference in the plant that makes me wonder if it's the plant itself not the method used to grow. Plants put out runts with stunted growth just by nature. Now if it does this on 5 plants and all 5 without the air stone outgrew them then I would wonder about adding air bubbles. It was interesting to see though

More sample size is always better, I couldn’t agree more.

Maybe if you had freshly rooted cuttings off the same mother plant then I think it could be a closer comparison. Being plants can vary do to phenotypes there's always the chance of picking that one different seedling. But single plant or seed phenotype aside there was still a huge difference between the two like day and night

hey buddy good video! im doing a side by side test using clones testing kratky vs, DWC. Ive been doing DWC hydroponics for 4 years now nd the plants are one month into it. The kratky is a bit even with the DWC but has much better roots at the moment

I think Air Stone is better , but You may mistake something in your process .May be you put the plant root which higher or lower nutrition solution or the pot having air stone did not have ventilation hole that why the plant did not growing well . .The air stone can support oxygen for fish well Why not for plant .I think If you like to see the test accurately ,You should take few more tests and then conclusion .One test can not tell enough anything
