As a Mexican American I know for a fact that we don’t get offended easily. Whenever someone tries to speak Spanish, people are so happy and accommodating. We don’t care if it’s not pronounced perfectly. As a matter of fact I’m the first one to say that us as Hispanics should try to learn English instead of expecting to be accommodated in Spanish. Since there’s an alternative to get someone in Spanish in almost everything, I think that makes people not push themselves to learn English and I think it’s wrong. I wouldn’t expect to go to live in France or China for example and have them speak to me in my language instead of me learning their language. It’s only here in the amazing USA that this happens and people still are ungrateful for everything this beautiful country stands for.

Learning their ideology inside and out is extremely useful and powerful, because it can be used to blow up their talking points and make them look silly in their superficial knowledge and lack of awareness of their own cult.

I liked “Venmo your black friends”. Assuming that “your black friends” must not be as financially successful as you are.
Anecdotally, this is not true in my life. Yes, I can afford Bath and Body Works candles (but why would I?). But one of my good friends is a 100% Jamaican nurse who is far more financially successful than I am. We don’t Venmo each other money just because. That’s weird. No one does that in a responsible, adult world.
How self-righteous is it to assume that “your black friends” need your financial help?

So true. She’s obviously single and living at home if she believes a few extra candles means your swimming in mountains of extra cash these days like Scrooge McDuck (or Bezos, Gates, and the Kardashians). Besides, how incredibly oblivious and insulting is it to blithely insist that your Black friends want or need your cast-offs and petty handouts? Strangle that she made no mention whatsoever that our White, Latino, Indian, Arabic, or Aboriginal friends could also benefit from our extravagant excess candle money.
But saddest of all is that this young woman was obviously never taught anything about etiquette, character, virtue, self respect, or the true meaning of “love thy neighbor”. Imagine going through life this devoid introspection, logic, and reason. And she’s just one of many thousands who simply don’t know any better or, like mentally stunted toddlers, stubbornly refuse to.

@@theprivilegecheckers No, I want to avoid racists, which is exactly what these people are. It's racist to address white people as though they are all racists, and if you disagree with that fact, then _you are a racist._
Secondly, white privilege is a myth sustained by those with a perpetual victim complex. Black people have more privilege in our society currently than white people do: affirmative action benefits, minority employment quotas, college admission preference, exclusive scholarships based solely on race, and that doesn't even include the social aspect of being able to be openly racist against white people without reprisal.

I personally love the whole "pronounce 'people of color' names correctly" because my maiden name is Polish and nigh unpronounceable, so much so that we had an Americanized version (that most people still struggled with). I won't write it, obviously, but to give you a taste, it was six letters long, and two of those letters were Z (and those Zs separated by a D). I grew up being unable to pronounce my own last name "correctly." But I never had a problem with it because it was Polish, not English, so of course English speakers will struggle. Just make an effort to say it the Americanized way, the way we say it, and you're good. I had a lot of people riff off my family name and make jokes out of the sounds. It never bothered me; it was funny! I'm white as plaster, but come on, man. Lighten up. Not everyone speaks the language, and not everyone knows how to move their tongue the correct ways to make the sounds in your name. As long as they're not being a dick about it and are willing to learn (vast majority of people are), be patient with people who struggle to make sounds they're not used to. It's really not a big deal.

Yeah, I went from my Czech maiden name to a 10 letter long German married name. The slavs love their consonants & the Germans love to pair up o with a, e, i , o, u and some extra n's on the end. Unless they already know me, no one has ever pronounced either last name right, with one exception. One of my professors said my maiden name perfectly the first day. Then 3 days a week for a whole semester, he never said it right again.🤣

Im English and my aunt married a polish gent after the war. The only name I ever knew my uncle as was pronounced Richard Richa as his actual name was impossible to pronounce by people from my area of Lancashire. Hell even the rest of England couldn't understand the way we spoke so we had no chance of pronouncing a Polish name. Theres even a website translating the way we spoke then into proper English called Wiganese translation.
