Katana vs Longsword | Fun Sparring

DISCLAIMER:
I do not recommend taking part in contact steel sparring without full protective gear. In this video, we are only sparring in minimal gear due to the nature of the sparring's light contact and also our ability to, and experience in, fully controlling our shots.
A fun and friendly sparring match between myself and another HEMA and Living History mate. This was my first time using Red Dragon gloves which, while protective enough for this purpose, noticeably decrease dexterity in manipulating the tsuka (grip) in my hands. I tried out various concepts from the HJMA texts I have researched and, gotta say, it was cool to pull some of them off and adapt them to a very foreign situation. Fighting a long sword with a katana, suffice to say, is exceptionally difficult (as you may notice in the video 😂).
While this may not translate well on camera, the long sword my mate was using was also a foot longer than the katana I was using. However, despite the disadvantages, it was still a great sparring session ^_^
